there he gets out for his walk and then returns by the el. one theory the attacker stalked the victim on his return to 69th street. investigators are looking for video. short of that. >> again, it's sunday afternoon, 2:30 in the afternoon. somebody had to see something so hopefully we can reach out to the public and maybe somebody saw something. >> reporter: so, investigators are looking through a series of video surveillance systems at at this point to try to get some image of the attacker. so far nothing has surfaced yet but as you just heard from superintendent chitwood maybe somebody saw something. it was 2:30 in the afternoon in a fairly popular area of the city. lie in upper darby john rawlins channel6 "action news." rick. >> john thank you. police have given the all clear after a suspicious device was found in lindenwold camden county. chopper6 was overhead around 11 o'clock this morning as the bomb squad responded to the 1100 block of west park

avenue. at first officials thought they discovered explosives at an apartment here. they now say that what they found posed no threat at all. >> a man is in critical condition after he was rescued from a trash truck today. the 33-year-old had been sleeping in a dumpster when crews lifted the dumpster and emptied it into a waste management truck. first responders spent nearly two hours removing the man from the garbage truck in the juniata section of philadelphia. he was taken to temple university hospital with multiple injuries. well, an 80-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash in new castle delaware. three vehicles collided around 6 o'clock last night in the area of 495 southbound and route 141. officials say the 80-year-old suffered head and facial injuries and was that rushed to the hospital. two other people were checked out by paramedics right there on the scene and no word yet on what caused this crash. >> all right, turning now to the eagles and eagles fever on this monday, that's taking

kevin maeubauer's home last night after a car slammed into his property. it wasn't the crash that almost cost him his life, it was the accused murder erin side the vehicle. when kevin went to help the driver he shook his hand and shot him in the head. bob brooks talked to that good samaritan today and joins us live from police headquarters with the harrowing story. bob. >> reporter: yeah, rick, definitely harrowing story. again imagine you're simply just trying to help someone and the way you're rewarded for that is by again being shot in the head. this is an incredible story of that man who this happened to. we spoke with him and tonight he really needs some help. >> he said another quarter inch and you wouldn't be here. >> reporter: just over a month ago october 25th kevin maeubauer was shot in the head. all he was trying to do was help someone who crashed their car. >> the street light was knocked over. so of course i'm thinking got to be somebody injured. this is video of the scene then and it turns out the person who crashed is the same man accused of shooting two

people minutes before just blocks away. police identify him as joshua torres plaza. >> i look over and he's taking the tags off the car. that's odd. then he walked up, he said hey buddy can you call 911. he said thank you and i just felt the back of my head it felt like a lead pipe or something heavy metal just hit me on the head. >> reporter: his wife jackie watched it happen. >> and then he turned around and pulled out the gun and shot him i thought it was in the back of the head and my husband just went completely down. >> reporter: in the next thing he knew he was in the back of the plans. >> i kept saying i don't want to die. >> reporter: it's incredible and unbelievable what happened to neibaur that's he's alive and managed to recover so well. his picture post shooting is tough to look at but the recovery hasn't been easy nor cheap. >> five hours in surgery, 500 stitches in and out. >> reporter: as expected medical bills to fix the massive injuries are piling up. now a go fund me page has been set up for him.

we'll show you the seven-day forecast sharrie coming up with those numbers in just a little bit. >> sounds good adam. thank you. students in montgomery county have answered the call to help purchase new equipment for their school and today they received their reward. kids at thomas fitzwater elementary school have the fun pack of many duct taping their principal to the wall. the students took part in a fundraiser called race for education. the goal was to raise $20,000 and principal austin challenged the students and said if they surpassed that amount, they could pin him to the wall. all 300 pounds, 6-foot five of him and so they did. the students raised more than $29,000 and it will be used to purchase musical equipment, air conditioning for the art and music classrooms and also to help teachers with their wish list items. a lot of fun at that school today. local officials are celebrating an innovative construction project in south philadelphia. crews used recycled glass to

into poisonous gas when exposed to fire. no one was hurt in today's crash which happened in lakeland, florida. authorities have since given residents the all-clear to go back outside. crews are still working, however, to remove the mangled train. >> dictionary.com has revealed its word of the year for 2017 and it was apparently influenced by various items in the news. the word is complicit. dictionary.com defines it as choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act and having partnership or involvement in wrongdoing. well, looks up spiked nearly 300 percent last year as complicit was linked to just about every hot button issue from politics scandals. there was a "saturday night live" skit of a fake commercial for complicit perfume. dictionary.com also says the investigation into russian influence in the presidential election helped elevate complicit into the national lexicon. >> big talkers now and let's start in virginia with this scenario. a mom says her nine-year-old daughter is getting bullied.

the school needs proof. so mom puts a digital recorder in her little girl's backpack to get evidence. for that, mom is now facing felony charges. sara sims says no one was helping her daughter. she says the school didn't respond to repeated calls so she stepped in and she took action. well, the school ends up finding that recorder. sims daughter gets moved to another classroom then comes those charges which mom says are motifying and terrifying. >> next thing i know i'm a felon. i have felony charges an misdemeanor when i'm trying to look out for my kid. what do you do? >> sims could now face five years in prison for puttering that recorder in her kids' backpack. she heads to court in january. if you love christmas displays but this brooklyn dads her on your to do list. on the flip side some people who live in diker heights dread the day those christmas lights go up.

this annual display has become tradition on 84th street, a bazillion plus lights, we didn't count but in the what it looks like with a glow that rivals the moon. it's a holiday hot spot for locals and tourists and some folks who live there say it has simply gotten out of hand. soon tour buses will roll in and police officers will be stationed there for weeks. neighbors say people block their driveways, they honk their horns at all hours of the night, they litter they even urinate on their property but those in favor say the naysayers are looking a lot like the grinch a lot right now. the local civic association stepping in with some rules. time all displays to end at midnight and do not use amplified music but enjoy the show. if you're the type who likes to byoms, bring your own movie snacks then you can, you know, pull the pedestrian purse trick or you can take a note from one woman who's hack is going viral on twitter. angela brisk is not playing, people. she skirted the cinema concessions rule by hiding her

volume at this point. about a six minute delay in either direction along 95 as you travel through the northeast. farther north we had a broken down truck on the off-ramp to street road in bucks county but luckily that is cleared out of the way. and over on the schuylkill i-76 some slow speeds, typical stuff, 13 miles per hour as you come eastbound by girard avenue and head in toward center city. out in spring city this afternoon we're getting word of a crash along 724. that's schuylkill road at bridge street there by the sunoco and the cvs. some slow speeds starting to develop on the westbound side of 422 if you're headed out to the outlets to do a little shopping this afternoon. in woolwich township bucks county a crash and downed wires shutting down almshouse road near rushland road by neshaminy valley golf club. stay on bristol road to get around that. in mount laurel burlington county it's fire department activity that's closing fellowship road this afternoon pretty easy to get around. you can use 38 or church street as alternates. and in franklin township gloucester county, a truck flipped over in the northbound lanes of 55 past 40.

and that longer wave length of light right around sunset here playing off of those ice crystals as we take a look towards 30th street station here so a really nice close to our monday evening. taking a look at the chances for rain, again a very quiet week ahead as we take a look at tuesday, wednesday, thursday, 0 percent chance of rain. it does bump up here on friday to a 40 percent chance but if you have plans friday afternoon evening, don't worry about that 40 percent. it's going to be very early in the morning and then it drops off as we go into the start of the weekend. as we take a look at those temperatures right now, it's cooling off a little bit back into the 40's for quakertown, warminster at 49 degrees but still hovering at 50 or better for coatesville, longwood gardens, malvern, center city 54 degrees right now and to the south and east many numbers were around 50 for ewing hammonton tuckahoe 49 degrees, dover we're at 54 degrees and that temp has tumbled quite a bit sitting at 46 degrees. as we look at the east of the

rockies here, very little happening here and very little is going to happen as we progress through this week. there's some cloud cover over the great lakes with a warm front here south of that warm front temperatures spiking into the 70's for saint louis this afternoon, same thing for parts of kansas. any precipitation is very meek and weak and that is off north of the rockies. so for tonight clear calm and seasonable, 30 in the suburbs, 37 degrees for center city with that north-northeast wind about three to 6 miles an hour. your computer forecast for tomorrow, again, a lot of sunshine, clear sky early on and in fact that sunrise doesn't come up until about 7:00 a.m., 33 degrees then. bouncing into the 40's 9, 10 o'clock and you can see these upper 50's noon, 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock even going into 4 o'clock and then we slowly slide back to around 50 degrees during the evening hours. so, no signs of winter even beyond tomorrow. the jet stream way to the north and that is pulling a lot of mild air all the way up

i just don't know." those the words of a frustrated veteran philadelphia detective today as yet another case of careless tragedy plays itself out, this time here in southwest philadelphia. >> own a gun you got a lot of responsibility. much more responsibility when there's a kid in the house. >> reporter: a three-year-old girl shot herself in the right thigh with her father's licensed gun. terrance williams had rushed out to work at midday asking his mother barbara mcgill to secure the weapon. police say the grandmother put it in the a holster in the closet but without a safety lock. soon the girl got her hands on the gun and shot herself. from there police say, mcgill did not tell first responders why the child was bleeding or that there was a gun in the house. for that mcgill has been charged with recklessly endangering the welfare of a child and evidence tampering. >> by hiding things, hiding weapons not telling us the truth all you're doing is delaying the process and it
