i just don't know." those the words of a frustrated veteran philadelphia detective today as yet another case of careless tragedy plays itself out, this time here in southwest philadelphia. >> own a gun you got a lot of responsibility. much more responsibility when there's a kid in the house. >> reporter: a three-year-old girl shot herself in the right thigh with her father's licensed gun. terrance williams had rushed out to work at midday asking his mother barbara mcgill to secure the weapon. police say the grandmother put it in the a holster in the closet but without a safety lock. soon the girl got her hands on the gun and shot herself. from there police say, mcgill did not tell first responders why the child was bleeding or that there was a gun in the house. for that mcgill has been charged with recklessly endangering the welfare of a child and evidence tampering. >> by hiding things, hiding weapons not telling us the truth all you're doing is delaying the process and it

could cause further injury to your loved one. >> reporter: last night police say, the d.a. recommended lodging charges against terrance williams but this afternoon the d.a.'s office dropped charges against the girl's father. the child remains in children's hospital listed in stable condition. doctors hoping they can save her leg. grandmother mcgill has just made bail. police say this is the third shooting of this type in two months. last one was november 9th when a three-year-old boy ibn-kareem lawson shot himself to death. several adults continue to deny any knowledge of how the stolen gun got there. no charges filed so far. ironically police in the 26th district at 615 east girard are passing out free gun locks today. >> the city gives that gun lock to the sheriff's office, the police department and you need to utilize that. >> reporter: again, the grandmother barbara mcgill aged 64 facing multiple charges tonight but out on

bail. her son is off the hook. the three-year-old child shot yesterday here in southwest philadelphia remains hospitalized tonight in stable condition facing surgery possible to try to save her leg. in southwest philadelphia, i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> vernon thank you. authorities in upper darby delaware county are looking for the person who attacked and robbed a 75-year-old man who was out for a walk. happened sunday afternoon along the unit block of glendale road. detectives say the attackers knocked the victim to the ground went through his pockets and took what they could. we'll hear from police about leads they have in this case coming up tonight at 6 o'clock. >> a man and woman were killed in a head-on collision in cumberland county new jersey last night. it happened about 10 o'clock on route 47 in maurice river township. police have not yet identified the victims or commented on what led up to it. officers in west whiteland township are asking for your help identifying two people who went on a vandalism spree early black friday morning. now, look carefully. these surveillance pictures were taken at 1:30 a.m. along

small wood court. the suspect allegedly hit several cars. it's not clear how much damage was done. but if you know anything about this crime, west whiteland authorities would like to hear from you. a tractor-trailer went off the road and landed on its side on a guardrail in south jersey. chopper6 hd over the scene at 3:30 this afternoon in the northbound lanes of route 55 in franklin township, gloucester county. we're told the driver of the big rig was not hurt. officials on the scene say they believe a tire blew out on the truck causing the driver to loss control. >> democratic senator al franken is talking publically for the first time about the sexually inappropriate behavior that's recently come to light involving him and a few other women. speaking outside his office in washington, d.c. today, franken says he knows that many people count on him to be a champion for women. he says he's ashamed of his actions and that he's going to learn from his mistakes. >> i've been trying to take responsibility by apologizing

students aren't sure where their next meal is coming from. others lack secure homes. one straight a student was sleeping on the streets. with the help of food donations, the student government association created the snack rack at 10 locations around campus. the need at community college may be greater than other schools because students are older and often trying to study and raise families only with part-time jobs. >> we know if they're hungry again then that means their children are hungry, their spouses are hungry their partners, et cetera. >> reporter: so the program expanded. student leaders asked for more donations and also opened a food pantry. >> now we want things like spaghetti and spaghetti sauce and, you know, mashed potatoes things are nonperishable canned goods. thanks to a $5,000 grant the pan three is, pantry is that expanding getting refrigeration for fruits and vegetables providing more healthy choices. >> we're trying to help our students be as healthy

into the low 60's with a good amount of sunshine. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow it will be sunny, it will be mild, temperatures a little bit warmer than today, up to 59 degrees. the average high for this time of the year is about 52. wednesday it's even warmer. 62 degrees with lots of sunshine with those winds out of the southwest ahead of a cold front. that front flips through dry wednesday night. behind it thursday, temperatures drop a little bit but still above normal, 55 degrees with a mix of clouds and sunshine. then we have a stronger cold front that flips through friday morning. that likely will bring us a few showers really early in the morning predawn, generally about a tenth of an inch of rain so we're looking at some very light rain. afternoon sunshine as another area of high pressure builds in. what a boring forecast, hm? 54 degrees and saturday should be gorgeous, mostly sunny and seasonable with a high of 52 degrees. the first weekend of december will we stay dry for sunday? adam will that answer in the accuweather 7-day forecast. looking really nice.

allegations concerning the largest chain of massage franchises in the county. more than 180 people claim they were sexually assaulted at massage envy locations including in chester county. "action news" reporter chad pradelli live for us at the sat center with the very latest. chad. >> reporter: yeah, monica buzz feed broke the story and it's a local woman who was instrumental in exposing the alleged coverup. susan ingram says she went to this west goshen massage envy a half dozen times without a hint of misconduct. on a seventh, she says her life changed after james deeter specially assaulted her. >> the day changed my life forever. >> reporter: deeter is now in jail serving five and half years after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting nine women at the west goshen spa. during sentencing ingram told "action news" massage envy failed to properly investigate her complaint and notify

police. she says the chain knew of one prior assault at the hands of deeter, yet kept him employed its a charge echoed by others now suing the franchise massage chain. >> i said we need to call the police. she responded by saying massage envy will that handle it internally. >> reporter: massage envy has 1200 spas nationwide. it has reportedly denied wrongdoing and says it's not liable for sexual assaults at franchise locations. massage envy released a statement to abc news that reads in part each of these incidents are heartbreaking for us, even one incident is too many. >> i think what's also horrifying are the allegations that these spas and the national company didn't take these complaints seriously. >> reporter: and ingram tells me that her lawsuit will go to court in a philadelphia courtroom in january. i'm live in the satellite center chad pradelli channel6 "action news." rick. >> all right, chad, thank you. congress is back at work with just days left in the 2017 legislative calendar and

they got a lot to do. there are 12 days and until the end of the year and 11 calendar days until the government actually runs out of money. senate republicans are trying to pass a tax reform bill before that time runs out. the house republicans passed their version of the bill just before thanksgiving but the senate can only afford to lose two votes. >> the fate of the party is in our hands as well as that of the economy. the economy needs a tax cut and the republican party needs to -- >> the deadline to avoid a government shutdown is december 8th. there are talks of another potential short term extension if the deadline cannot be met. meanwhile president trump's son-in-law jared kushner will not have to hand over documents related to his russia contacts during a presidential election by today's deadline. a spokesperson with the senate judiciary committee says they've pulled back from the deadline because kushner's attorney is apparently cooperating with the committee. a new deadline for the documents is not yet known.

crescentville section was targeted during a robbing on thanksgiving. police released this surveillance video which shows a man walking into the store on the 5900 block of rising sun avenue just before 4 o'clock on november 23rd. police say the suspect approaches an employee, demands money while simulating that he has a gun. the suspect did get away with an unknown amount of cash. no injuries were reported. from our delaware news room tonight, police are searching for a man in connection to a shooting on the unit block of fifth avenue in wilmington. officials say 25-year-old kevin beatty is considered armed and dangerous. police say kevin also goes by the name kaz. anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police or delaware crime stoppers. >> a man is in critical condition tonight after being trapped in a garbage truck this morning in the juniata section of philadelphia. "action news" has learned that the search for the 33-year-old man began about 6:00 a.m. in the 300 block of east erie avenue. police say the man was actually sleeping in a dumpster when the dumpster was

lifted into a waste management truck to be emptied. rescuers had to spend nearly two hours trying to get the man out of the truck. he was taken to temple university hospital. he had lowerable, hip and leg injuries. >> the preston and steve campout for food hunger drive is under way. steve and preston will live in the xfinity live parking lot to encourage people and businesses to donate food. dozens of local and national celebrities are expected to turn out throughout the event including zach ertz kelly ripa, m. night shyamalan. the event is the nation's largest single location food drive. >> this food drive actually accounts for more than half the food drive food that we get every year. in addition to the pounds that are brought in, there are also monetary donations made by a lot of really generous companies and so because of this food drive, we're able to provide more than 1 million meals to help feed our

and monica. this is the university avenue on-ramp to the westbound lanes right here and it's westbound that will be closed overnight tonight in this area around 30th street starting at 11 o'clock. there will also be eastbound work starting at 9:00 but now both lanes will be closed on the eastbound side, it's westbound that will be completely shut down. on the big picture elsewhere, some slow speeds for sure. 18 miles per hour on the northbound side of 95 at the girard point double decker bridge. if you're headed up to the sixers game this evening. and we're getting word of an accident involving a pedestrian in bryn mawr right by the library along lancaster avenue at bryn mawr avenue so watch out for the ambulance, emergency crews responding there. in shanksville on route 29 main street near church street by studio 29 tattoo there's a crash. but we lost our crash in spring city along 724 so everything is reopened there. still not opened though in woolwich township bucks county almshouse road closed because of a crash and downed wires. bristol road can get you around that and in south jersey still have the flipped over truck along 55 northbound in franklin township.

cooler spots in the northeast but we're going to move some of that warmer air our way and it was sunny and dry today and that looks to be the case as we get tuesday, wednesday, thursday 0 percent chance for rain. it does bump up on friday. if you have outdoor plans like the west chester christmas parade i'll be hosting it once again friday evening don't worry we're not going to have any rain, that's early in the morning and then on saturday back down to a 0 percent chance. as we look at some of those temperatures right now, 46 in pottstown, 46 coatesville, malvern also um um -- coming in at 46. 38 in lake harmony up in the higher terrain there and in center city it's 53 degrees right now and a lot of 40's on the board for south jersey from ewing browns mills, 46 degrees. cape may at 50 degrees and dover just across the bay coming in at 52. satellite and radar we do have some high clouds to the north and west and a few of those high clouds did kind of stream in here during the late afternoon evening hours and

that really created some beautiful sunsets for some of us especially north of the city but overall a very quiet pattern is settling in so for tonight it's clear and calm and seasonable, 30 in the suburbs, 37 degrees for center city with that light wind out of the north-northeast three to 6 miles an hour. your commuter forecast for tuesday, again, a lot of sunshine, dry start to finish, 30's right through the 8 o'clock hour. then 40's for a couple of hours between 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock and then we're in the 50's, mid to upper 50's anywhere between 11:00 a.m. and right through the evening hours, so, again, above that normal of around 52 degrees. what's happening here as we haveal jet stream, no signs of winter anywhere east of the rockies for the next several days. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, right near 60 or better both tomorrow and
