sunday stroll in center city philadelphia. live at 69th street is "action news" reporter john rawlins. john, what's the condition of the victim and what about the search for the attacker? >> well, as of late this afternoon, the victim was still undergoing surgery for the repair of a broken right hip that was an injury he sustained during the attack. as for the attacker himself, no video has surfaced but police are asking for the public's help. >> the predatory nature of this type of act it really angers me. >> reporter: upper darby police superintendent michael chitwood referring to a broad daylight attack of a 75-year-old a visually impaired man who had been walking on his way home. >> and then this scumbag proceeds to beat him and break his hip so i mean give me a break. >> reporter: the brutal assault plays out at about 2:30 p.m. on the unit block of glendale road. >> he's attacked by a male, knocked to the ground, thrown

to the ground stomped on and then the bad guy goes into his pocket and takes out a hundred dollars, his cell phone. >> reporter: joanne cardelli saw first responders yesterday on learning what occurred. >> i am surprised but wouldn't doubt that something like this would happen around here. >> reporter: chitwood says the victim was finishing up a 3-mile daily walk. upper darby resident takes the market frankford line to 30th street station where he gets out for his walk and then returns via the el. one theory, the attacker targeted his victim on his return to 69th street as he exited the terminal to walk home. >> that's a what we think. we're searching for videos from the terminal and also any businesses along the way that may see who this perpetrator is. >> reporter: well, that search for the video continues. without the video, though, police are asking for the

public's help. the sense is given the time of day and the location, somebody had to see something. it was 2:30 on a sunday afternoon. the walk between the terminal and glendale is a short one, it is heavily used by lots of pedestrians. if you saw anything that was suspicious yesterday, the police are urging you to call upper darby detectives. live at 69th street station, john rawlins channel6 "action news." jim. >> john, thank you. a grandmother is facing charges tonight after her three-year-old granddaughter accidentally shot herself. it happened in the kingsessing section of philadelphia. charges against the child's father terrance williams have been dropped but his mother barbara mcgill has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. mcgill also faces charges of tampering with evidence. police say the girl shot herself in the leg with her father's gun. the incident happened yesterday in a home on the 1300 block of south wilton street. hip hop artist meek mill had a visit today from the reverend al sharpton.

meek mill is serving time for a parole violation at the chester state correctional institution in the city of chester. that's where "action news" reporter sarah bloomquist is live tonight. sarah, a high profile inmate and a high profile visitor. >> reporter: jim, the reverend al sharpton spent quite a bit of time this afternoon here at this correctional facility with meek mill. he said it's part of his efforts to get the north philadelphia born rapper a new hearing after what many see as an unnecessarily harsh sentence for a probation violation. he said he also wants to draw attention to the mass incarceration of young black men here in pennsylvania and nationwide. the reverend al sharpton arrived at the chester state correctional institution at 2:30 this afternoon to meet with rapper meek mill along with mill's new york based attorney. the pair emerged two and a half hours later. >> we had a very brunt talk. he's a bright young man.

he's committed and he really said reverend, if nothing else, let people understand what this system does. >> reporter: earlier this month, the 30-year-old mill was sentenced to two to four years in prison by judge denise brinkley for violating his probation stemming from gun and drug convictions in 2008. the same judge extended his probation for other violations over the years. sharpton contends mill's case is symbolic of widespread injustice in the judicial system. in mill's case the prosecutor and parole officer didn't ask for jail time. >> he is representative of something far more than his stardom, he's a symbol of the abuse of the system that will violate you over nothing and end up ruining the potential and the ability to move forward in life. >> reporter: mill's case has drawn widespread attention. billboards line local highways, celebrities and

other activists are speaking out. >> it's just a horrific situation but at least we have the focus on this situation. we'll keep the focus on the situation until it's rectified until he's released and hopefully that's going to be soon. >> reporter: a couple of weeks ago mill's attorneys filed a series of motions asking for the judge to reconsider the sentence and recuse her several from this case. they contend she's asked mill for personal favors and acted outside of normal judicial conduct. if there's no response by december 5th, the defense team plans to appeal to a higher court. live in chester delaware county, i'm sarah bloomquist channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, sarah. the bomb squad has given the all-clear after investigating a suspicious device discovered in camden county. authorities were called to the 1100 block of west park avenue in lindenwold at 11 o'clock this morning. the device was found in an apartment but officials

determined it to be inert. no other potential explosives were found. west park avenue was closed for an hour and a half during the investigation. a police officer from ocean county used cat-like reflexes to avoid being hit by a car. this is newly released video of the incident in manchester earlier this month. the officer had just finished a crash investigation. as he walked back to his cruiser, another vehicle sped by near technological running him over. the officer was able to jump out of the way and avoid serious injury. that driver was pulled over a short time later and issued a citation. >> eagles fans are riding a wave of jubilation, that after the team won it's tenth game yesterday against the chicago bears. but no fans are any happier than the youngsters in miss rigs class at signal hill school in voorhees. walter perez is live at lincoln financial field to explain why.

walter. >> reporter: jim the reason is mrs. rigs lovers a good party and few things make her want to celebrate quite like an eagles victory. >> danielle rigs is a huge eagles fan. she's also a teacher at signal hill school in voorhees, new jersey. over the years, she made it a tradition to bring in treats for her students the day after an eagles victory. they make eight little party while danielle takes the opportunity to teach her fifth graders hard work and determination. >> we really want to instill in the kids that the world is there and that what they do and the hard work pays off. >> reporter: and the kids love it. what was more fun the parties or watching the eagles win. >> the parties. >> my favorite one was probably when she made pie crust with pudding. >> reporter: the only problem is that with the eagles dominating win streak, this tradition is getting expensive. >> it a hadn't really been a financial burden since 2004 but now we're just having fun

with it. >> reporter: fortunately her colleagues and co-workers are helping out now as well. and first in line is school principal sharon stallings and for good reason. you see her son, christopher, just happens to be good friends with eagles rookie running back corey clement and mrs. stallings says corey's success is well earned. >> corey always had that focus he had that drive. you knew he was going to make something out of it. >> reporter: so now the hope of these die hard fans is to keep celebrating the birds' success all the way through the post season. >> e-a-g-l-e-s, eagles! >> it's worth it. they're the eagles and just so exciting. >> reporter: now, here is the hope, that after the eagles final victory preferably the super bowl and when the class has its final party that corey clement shows up. now, at this point no one is sure that's even possible but if it happens, we'll let you know. reporting live from the linc, walter per recollection

>> a monument recognizing new jersey slave trade was unveiled today in camden. senator cory booker was joined by congressman donald norcross and local leaders on the camden -- campus of rutgers camden. booker says the marker brings light to darkness and speaks the names of those who were silenced. booker has led the charge to ensure that public monuments reflect america's values. he introduced legislation to remove confederate statues from the u.s. capitol. he thought he was being a good samaritan but the person he was trying to help turns around and allegedly shoots him in the head. it has been a long journey for kevin neibaur since he was shot outside his home in

kensington. now he's talking about his ordeal. "action news" reporter bob brooks has the story. >> reporter: the path kevin neibaur. >> he said another quarter inch and you wouldn't be here. >> reporter: luckily he is and he's making an incredible recovery. his post shooting picture speaks for itself. the reason this happened neibaur says he was simply trying to help a man who crashed his car outside of his home near b and westemoreland streets. >> the street light was knocked over so of course i'm thinking got to be somebody injured. >> reporter: "action news" was there the night of the crash back on october 25th. turns out the man in the car was the same man police say just shot two people minutes before killing one. police say the suspect is joshua torres plaza and he intended neibaur to be the next victim. >> i look over and he's taking the tag off the car. that's odd. and then he walked up he said hey buddy could you call 911.

i said yeah. he said thank you. and i just felt the back of my head, it felt like a lead pipe or something heavy metal just hit me on the head. >> reporter: his wife jackie watched it happen. >> and he turned around and pulled out the gun and shot him i thought it was in the back of the head and my husband just went completely down. >> reporter: neibaur says the in exfew hours are hard to remember. he says he didn't even know he was shot until paramedics told him. after an extensive surgery and hospital stay he pulled through. >> a week in the hospital intensive care 500 stitches. >> reporter: now he needs help. >> i've always been kind of self supportive i don't need anybody type guy but right now i document it is certainly his turn to be helped. two things here. the go fund me page if you want to donate to him help hit out we'll link that up to our web site 6abc.com. he also wrote an essay about what happened to him. you can read it. we'll also post that to our web site.

[laughter] >> reporter: when you're winning, even press conferences are fun. the mood is light as can be the day after another dominating eagles performance. they're having so much fun it's caught the eye of the entire nation. >> take for example the eagles. they marked one of their touchdowns against the bears with a little bowling. as you can see it was a strike. >> reporter: evening "good morning america" talking about the eagles and their on the field celebrations. >> they're enjoying each other right now. they enjoy coming to work

m.v.p. spoke on many topics including his admiration for carson wentz. keep in mind james is a life long cowboys fan. >> my favorite player right now is carson wentz. i told my brother that earlier in the season that i just love the way he plays the game. very smart player. from the outside looking in obviously. and they got a really good team. >> the cavs on a seven game win streak. sixers own a half game behind them in the eastern conference standings. sixers may be the up and coming team but there's mutual respect on both sides. we start with the sixers on lebron. >> he's one of if not the smartest player to ever play in the nba the way he understands the game, sees the game, it's all because of how smart he is. i mean, he is the definition of a basketball genius. >> you guys have a mantra trust the process but, you know, patience, you got to be patient with it.

the philadelphia christmas tree all aglow and yes, it is the holiday season and we have only 28 days before christmas is officially here but you step outside and it feels a little bit more like spring. right now philadelphia it's 52 degrees, down from a high of 54 which is 2 degrees above normal. cape may holding at 50. atlantic city airport 48. allentown 44. and reading also 44 degrees. this month so far we've had some ups and downs. this shows the afternoon high and today was our tenth day with a high above normal. we were 2 degrees above normal but the month overall running close to 1 degree below normal but the next three days are going to be warm. so, november-likely will go down pretty typical average temperatures. right now satellite and radar showing just a few high thin clouds beginning to stream in late this afternoon. actually this is great timing for the sunset. the sun sets at 4:38, very early, and the sun sets are kind of nice looking when you have a little bit of clouds,

you kind of play on with a longer wave length colors of the light so ray posted this drone sunset on my facebook page from chalfont. keep sending me the photos. i love to share them on the news. tonight clearing skies, it will be calm, seasonable overnight low 30 in the cooler suburbs, about 37 degrees for philadelphia, winds light out of the north-least three to 6 miles per hour but tomorrow a wind shift more southerly and what that will do is bring us warmer temperatures. tomorrow average high drops to 51. our high in philadelphia 59 degrees. that's 8 degrees above average. dover could hit 60. cape may 57. allentown 54. reading 55. and trenton 56 degrees. lots of sunshine, a gorgeous day. association -- so there's really no sign of winter the next several days. jet stream well up to the north bottling up any cool air. we have a zon. l flow from the west to the east. that will keep temperatures on the mild site actually every day for the next week we will be above average. so, you really don't have to

bundle up much at all. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast if you like today, you'll like tomorrow but we bring temperatures up a notch, 59 degrees lots of sunshine, very mild. on wednesday, we bump it up to 62 degrees, ahead of a weak cold front. that front will be sliding through late wednesday night. it comes through dry and what this does is drop temperatures a little bit on thursday, still above average, little bit more in the form of clouds, mixture of clouds and sunshine, a high of 55. we have another cold front that moves through early friday morning and what this will do is bring us a chance of some much needed rain. future tracker showing it will likely fall when most of us are sleeping around 3 o'clock, some light rain moving across the region. it's not going to be much, generally about .10 of an inch. the system moves pretty quickly, the sunshine is back by the afternoon, winds pick up, 54 degrees and what this does is open the door for another area of high pressure this weekend. this weekend's looking really nice. saturday it will be seasonable, mostly sunny with a high of 52.
