night to get residents out even as the blaze continued to spread. here is the latest. >> reporter: rick, good afternoon. what you see behind me is just a glimpse of the damage crews are still working here but this fire is burning out of control. and due to the intensity of the fire and winds crews are having a hard time making access and there are multiple reports of structures burning. winds gusting up to 68 miles per hour whipping up explosive wild fires raging through southern california. >> sheriff deputies knocking on homes of santa paula over the night enforcing evacuation orders for at least 8,000 homes. we have personnel in the fire areas dealing with evacuations, the flames devouring everything in their path.

>> it's horrendous, just a lot of fuel in its path. and the wind is not doing them any good at all. >> the wind blasting fiery embers down streets and this home one of 150 structures destroyed. firefighters desperately trying to contain the wild fires but it's an uphill battle. >> we are faced with the same challenges as yesterday. high winds and low relative humidity. and the fuel conditions are as bad as they can be. >> disbelief and shock -- >> some residents panicking as the flames close in. >> we need to get out as soon as possible that fire is right there -- >> this fire fight is far from over, the santa anna winds are expected to die down this afternoon and pick up wednesday night into thursday. channel 6 "action news."

rick back to you. >> thank you. back here, we have big changes heading our way weather wise but for today we have a nice mild afternoon and not a lot of sunshine as we look outside sky 6 hd showing you the commodore barry bridge under gray skies at lunch time. karen rogers has a first check of what is ahead for us. >> the temperatures are nice evening if we don't get the full on sunshine. we see that on satellite 6 along with action radar and the rain that is advancing, let take a look at the temperatures, that is a big part of the temperatures today 61 degrees right now in philadelphia. so normally this time of year we are at 48. 55 in allentown and 54 in reading and 61 in millville, and check out dover, 67 degrees, near 70 degrees at lunch time, here we are in december. 63 in atlantic city. 58 in beach haven, very mild temperatures, here is how the temperature goes throughout the day at 2:00.

61 degrees with lots of clouds and maybe see a peek of sunshine in between the clouds but a mostly cloudy day and rain or drizzle at any point but the real rain comes later on this evening and tonight. you'll see that from 10:00. arriving west to east. you see the storm system out to the west and we watch that progression of that front and the backside of this, bringing snow to st. louis and coming toward our direction and moving west to east late this afternoon into the evening we get the rain. very mild this afternoon. temperatures in the 60s. overall a lot of clouds before that rain hits and a little drizzle at any point and the steadier rain this evening and behind it blustery air and you'll feel a big change in the forecast, we'll talk about where the numbers are going and a behind of a snow shower coming your way rick. >> all right karen thank you.

meanwhile the upper plain states are hammered with their first snow storm of the season and caused dozens of accidents along the roads of minnesota, minneapolis and st. paul saw 2.5 inches of snow but blizzard force winds caused serious drifting there. a break in the theft of the cost open walker of a girl with cerebral palsy. >> a few tip calls from police led to the arrest. newcastle police took 51-year-old leeland watson and donald kale was apprehended for his alleged role in this case. >> why would you do that? it makes me very disappointed as a child that a grown up would take my walker. >> surveillance video shows the

white pickup truck pull up outside of the home where christian alexander lives with her family and it shows the man jump out and steal the walker and casually roll away. >> to see two people that would take my walker and i'm just a child, it just really shocked me. >> we have learned that an arrest is made in the case. and we expect to learn more about this development this afternoon. meanwhile christian's family enjoyed an outpouring of support from people across the delaware valley since the story first aired on "action news." >> reporter: and in an outpouring is resulting in a happy ending for the story. and watson and kale face charges including theft and security and watson the added charge of heroin possession and both suspects released on bail.

more coming up on this story tonight at 4:00. channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a man investigating a noise outside of his home in wilmington overnight was shot and killed by someone in his backyard. it happened before 1:30 a.m. along the 800 block of north jackson street and that the 29-year-old victim went to the back of his house after hearing a noise outside. someone went to the back door and officers tried to save him but could not survive. so far there are no suspects. philadelphia police want to take a good look at the person in this video from tioga-nicetown. that he stabbed a woman in the store back on november 27th, followed her out and acted like he had a gun and threatened to shoot her. and he got away with $35. the republican national committee has done a surprise

about face and now backing roy moore for the u.s. senate seat in alabama. the rnc cut ties after eight women came forward saying moore made sexual advances when he was in his 30s and one woman says she was 14 at the time. and we'll have more on this story coming up on "action news" at 12:30. the hunt continues for the driver that struck and kill aid man in bucks county. along the 2900 block of state road in croyden. and then ran into a ditch and ran away on foot. and police recovered the vehicle and they do not believe the owner is the one behind the wheel good a bill to ban abortions in pennsylvania after 20 weeks of pregnancy is moving to the house floor. the state senate passed the
