>> now this. a burlington county pastor is under arrest today and facing child sex charges. prosecutors say harry thomas assaulted six children over 16 years all while leading a church in medford. i'm brian taff. >> i'm sharrie williams. the big story is the case from the pastor from the come alive church. wendy saltzman is live with more about the case and also reaction from people who know thomas, wendy? >> reporter: many in medford are shocked by the news that this man has been accused of sexual assault. the come alive church in medford appeared to be planning for the holidays ahead. but looked abandoned after their pastor was taken into custody charged with assaulting four

minors over a period of 16 years. >> i've seen with children and with my children and just there's no way. >> reporter: medfothod diner ow says he has known the man for 40 years. >> he doesn't seem to fit that profile. he's such a nice man and. >> reporter: thomas was the founder of the creation festival started in 1979. >> had this very quick vision of thousands of kids on a hillside. >> reporter: in an interview posted on youtube, thomas talks about being drawn to teaching the young. >> my burden for youth has started to really come to the forefront. >> reporter: according to the prosecutor's office, reverend thomas was arrested yesterday charged with one count of aggravated sexual assault, three counts of sexual assault and four counts of endangering the welfare of children. they say the abuse started in 1999 and spanned a lengthy

period ending just two years ago. information about the visms is being -- victims is being withheld to protect their identities. some people in the neighborhood where thomas has lived with his wife and two daughters for 30 years says in this day and age nothing shocks them. >> not surprising that these things are coming out-of-pocket. >> reporter: the assault happened in medford township. >> it's a disgrace. there had to be something going on before that. >> reporter: now police are saying that the reverend is receiving treatment at a medical facility under the supervision of armed guards. they are asking anyone else who believes that they may have been a victim to come forward to the medford township police and coming up at 6:00 we are going to have the latest from the church and their response. live in medford, i'm wendy saltzman, channel 6 action news. >> all right, wendy thank you.

john conyers and came after louder cries from his own party to step down. >> enough is enough. >> reporter: a total of akt women accused the senator of sexual misconduct. today he said they were not true and others he believed differently. he also called his decision ironic. >> i am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the oval office. and a man who has repeatedly preyed on young girls campaigns for the senate with the full support of his party. >> reporter: franken was referencing the 2005 access hollywood tape which caught mr. trump boasting about fame enabling him to grope women and the allegations against alabama republican candidate roy moore. >> we feel strongly that the people of this country also

addressed that when they elected donald trump to be president and i've addressed it several times from here and don't have anything new to add. >> reporter: but as franken becomes the second democrat to leave capitol hill, the party making a point that zero tolerance means no one is exempt. franken signaled that he would like to see a woman take his seat and a democratic governor of minnesota is the one who makes that decision. >> a lot unfolding. thank you. authorities in california are anxiously hoping that santa ana winds will give them a slight break today. wildfires are scorching the certain part of the state, what's known as the thomas fire is the largest one. it's located in ventura county and it's spreading out of control. it has burned more than 96,000 acres and destroyed at least 150 buildings. >> it's devastating.

fire. >> teenagers got shot, a 17 and a 19-year-old. >> oh, my gosh. that hurts me because the younger generation is not given the opportunity in order to progress to my level. >> reporter: you can hear the shock and disappointment in david elliot's reaction. his neighborhood was home to the scene of a violent shooting just after 7:00 last night. two teens, 17 and 19 years old were shot. the 19-year-old was luckily only grazed in the leg but police say the 17-year-old was hit multiple times in the lower back, stomach and legs. investigator say he had to undergo surgery last night and is in critical condition. witnesses say the 17-year-old ran into this restaurant for help after he was shot. >> he came outside, at the chinese store someone got shot so police came and took him to presbyterian hospital. >> reporter: this man tells us he was in a bible study at a church across the street and ran

new mexico state police say the suspect in a high school shooting is among the three dead. they have not released details about the shooter but say the two other people killed were aztec high school students. the school was cord onned off as deputies and other police agencies cleared the buildings. students were taken to a different location. state and federal authorities are investigating what led up to the deadly shooting. former south carolina police officer michael slager was sentenced today to 20 years in prison for the deadly shooting of an unarmed black man. the judge ruled the officer committed second degree murder and obstruction of justice when he shot and killed walter scott back in 2015. at one point scott's mar looked the officer in the eye and told

him she forgives him. families burst into tears. he apologized and said he wishes that day never would have happened. >> a group of republican and democratic lawmakers met with president trump today to talk about funding the federal government. congress has until the end of the day tomorrow to avert a partial government shutdown. paul ryan thinks they have the votes to pass a temporary funding bill without support from democrats. nancy pelosi says democrats don't intend to vote for the measure because it doesn't include any funding for their priorities. it could come any time today giving lawmakers two more weeks to come up with a long-term plan. >> in ft. lauderdale two police helicopter pilots chased down a suspect they say aimed a laser at their airport. the pasco county sheriff's office released this video. the officers were helping deputies on the ground who were on a call about a barricaded

suspect. they say the laser flashes momentarily blinded the pilots. the officers landed the hktd in the parking lot of a community center and still arrested a suspect. >> he said that it was for fun. he said that he didn't realize that a laser can travel a long distance even though we're only about 800 feet away from him. at night and making turns you get struck by a laser, you can fall a couple of hundred feet. it's extremely dangerous. >> pointing a laser at an aircraft is a felony punishable by five years in jail according to the fbi. >> all right now to the closing numbers on wall street on this thursday afternoon the dow soaring 70 points. the nasdaq also rising. the s&p up just about 8 points on the day. >> philadelphia high school students got some important help to take control of their future. college possible philadelphia

talking about some accumulating snow for the weekend. >> you're no longer my friend. >> the system is moving a little farther west and as we get closer to the actual day of the event, things always will be changing and there's a little shift to the west that we are watching. so as we take a look at the whether center here, we're in the spirit of the holiday season looking live on sky 6 with the christmas tree on north broad street. it is dry out there, chilly today. we will do that again tomorrow, it will be dry and chilly and yet some snow coming in for saturday. so here is your fireplace alert. if you've got a woodburning stove or fire place in your house, make sure the wood is somewhere where it is dry because saturday you may want to burn it all day long and watch some of that snowfall i know that's what i'm going to be doing. as we take a look at the next seven days and temperatures will be below normal the first snow of the season comes in on saturday. behind that we get a direct shot of arctic air to filler in from

canada behind it and two days in that 7-day forecast will only top off near freezing for high temperatures. so quite a flip in our forecast from what we have been used to this fall season. yes, it still technically is fall. 42 allentown, reading 45 wilmington, 44 degrees at the atlantic city. satellite and radar you can see the moisture gathering down to the south snowing in central parts of texas. there will be a stripe of snow in the deep south before it works its way up the coast. tonight clouds will be on the increase, 20s in the northwestern suburbs, even philadelphia, 30 in trenton and low 30s at the shore. as we look at the forecast for tomorrow, lots of clouds for or friday but again it's a dry day. high temperatures topping off mainly in the upper 30s, maybe some thermometers trying to hit that 40 degree mark and then that system mainly does stay off the coast but it's going to be close enough that it throws some

of that snow to philadelphia, trenton, wilmington 8:30 saturday morning light snow at the shore as well and it could puncture itself as far west as reading, lancaster, saturday afternoon. the heaviest snow right aloveng the shore and it starts to depart out here saturday night so the snowfalls mainly during the day on saturday. what we're expecting is about a coating to an inch on either side of i-95 mainly on those grassy surfaces because it's falling during the day. but in southern areas 1-3 inches. mainly on the grass but some of the side streets and untreated surfaces could take on a little bit of snow if they're not treated. as you look at the 4-day traffic; cloudy, that touch of snow, watch for some refreeze saturday once the sun sets on untreated services and sunday windy and cold and back to the

robots were on the agenda today at mcclur elementary school. students were designing and building robots out of legos for a tug-of-war contest and they were learning the basics of coding. it was all part of the school's observance of computer science education weeks. verizon workers paid a visit to a bucks county middle school today not to talk about communication. they went there to armstrong middle school to show off the science behind these modern devices. 11 verizon volunteers helped out with design challenges in the classroom and talked about careers in science and technology by sharing their engineering experiences they hope to inspire these youngsters to pursue the skills as well.

devastation of their homes, coupled with neighbors gone in a flash, almost too much to bear. >> i don't know. we'll get through it. it was a very quaint, cozy neighborhood. the house was just wonderful. i don't know what's going to happen. >> reporter: in ventura california, channel 6 action news. >> a chester county man has been charged with murdering his 10 month old daughter using antipsychotic medication. authorities say 1-year-old jamal bailey called 911 back on april 26th. when police arrived they found his baby unresponsive. an autopsy later revealed the girl died from seraquill intoxication for taking it 35 to 40 days prior to her death. he admitted he gave the baby pills to help her sleep but changed the story several times

where he said the child opened the pill bottle on her own. he's been charged with third degree murder. police in chester county are hoping you can help track down a ring of alleged wallets thieves. these are pictures here in a surveillance video showing two of the suspects as they walked into the king of prussia mall earlier this year. investigators say they used a stolen credit card while there and may also be behind other thefts of credit cards and wallets around the tristate. the man appears to walk with a limp. police say the woman and one other man are also involved in this. if you recognize any of the suspects, you're asked to contact police. >> some much needed supplies will soon be on their way to hurricane ravaged puerto rico. the action cam was in delaware county where the international association of machinists and other unions were preparing for an air lift to the island. a plane will leave tomorrow with diapers, formula and other

unicef says air conditioning is putting babies in damage of -- pollution. particles can damage the brain. the brain undergoes growth in the first year of life and is vulnerable to small doses of toxic chemicals. >> big talkers today and we start with a cop who has been hailed a hero but he is set to lose his job at the end of the month. corporal omar delgado made headlines for his brave actions following the mass shooting at the pulse nightclub but the department is planning to let him go. he was one of the first officers at the club back in june of 2016 when a gunman killed 49 people. he now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of seeing all the carnage. he recently has been working desk duty and the city where he

works says they are terminating him from the force because it wants an officer who can patrol the streets. one of the people delgado saved spoke up for the officer last night at a town meeting. >> he did his job that night. he saved my life. for him to be in this position right now is, it doesn't make sense. >> officer delgado's last day is set for december 31st. he says he feels like he's being punished for having ptsd. his police salary is 38,000 $500 a year. he's being let go just just months before he would have been vested in his pension so he will not have benefits once he's let go. all right. navigation apps like waze and google maps can be comblent tools for getting around traffic jams but the los angeles police department is urging drivers not to use them right now. the reason? those programs have reportedly

american wide receiver at holy cross high school. james and his family have since moved to the bronx, he turned that athleticism into a career opening a cross fit gym and that's where his daughter comes in. when she was just 12 months old she started picking up dumbbells and doing push ps and since then she has graduated to 55-pound dead lifts, hand stand push-ups, box jumps that are half her height and full pull-ups and yes there's even more. some critics say she's too young to lift weights or worry that she'll get hurt, her dad tells action news that everything his daughter does is supervised by professionals and well-thought-out to help her long-term athletic development. james says his goal is to motivate kids to have an active healthy lifestyle and having an adorable kid like this one

center here live on sky 6 getting our last little glimpse of some daylight and sunlight because we're really not going to see much in the way of sun until sunday. so soak it in right now because it is below the horizon at this point and you see some clouds there in the far distance. as we look at the forecast for the weekend, saturday is the day we'll have some light snow around the area for most of us, a cold day but with temps of 36 degrees the snow that falls during the day will mainly accumulate on the grassy surfaces, maybe some of the sidewalks and side streets late in the day when you get a lower sun angle. since those temps are above freezing, still keep the plans traveling around saturday and sunday the sun is back out but it's windy. a high of 39 with wind chills only in the 20s on your sunday. right now we're sitting where we should be in the mid 40s this time of year for philadelphia, low 40s reading allentown, 45 dover and at the coast temperatures there also around

44, 45 degrees. here comes the clouds from the west and from the south will continue to collapse in here overnight tonight as the system is developing in the deep south. you see a lot of rain here but a lot of this rain will be flipping to know even in far southern areas. very unusual to see snow that far south early in the season. even houston could get snow in the northern suburbs here. for us seasonable 25 in the suburbs, 34 degrees for center city. tomorrow is a dry day but again the clouds are here to stay from start to finish. this is lunchtime as we get into the overnight hours of friday, early saturday morning. that's when the coastal system starts to develop and throws a little precipitation our way. snow as far as northwest as philadelphia by 7:30 in the morning, some moderate snow at the shore. 4:30 in the afternoon you see that snow taking over most of the area and it starts to move out during the evening hours, we look at how much to expect,
