that violence in reaction to the president's declaration will intensify today after thousands of palestinians attend prayers at jerusalem's most sacred site. >> they were on the streets by the dozens of locations across the west bank yesterday. they clashed with israeli forces who fired water cannons and tear gaes. >> reporter: we've been watching this back and forth between young men and security forces all day. caught in a tear gas used to disburse t disperse the crowds. the fear this time, people really thought that the peace process was dead, that these grow. >> abc's james longman for us, and the palestinians are calling their reaction to president trump's jerusalem announcement three days of rage. >> let's go right to molly hunter in jerusalem. getting yesterday's protests, what does this mean for today?

>> reporter: good morning. yesterday was day two of these apparently three days of ram. we were out there. pretty big protests. several thousand palestinian protesters clashing with the israeli military. but this is pretty widespread. each protest wasn't massive, they took place all across gaza. the flash point we're watching for is the hours after friday prayers which happens very shortly. >> and it's been called three days of rage. how is this expected to culminate? >> reporter: i mean, today could be the turning point. we may find out today whether it fizzled out or whether it ramps up. the p.a. is under serious pressure to cut ties with the u.s. and walk away from any relationship with the u.s. and any relationship with the u.s.-brokered peace talks and we my find o may find out in the coming days. >> we are receiving reports that

this morning on world ani"w now." new developments on a school shooting. >> a community coming together overnight, the second school shooting this week. senator al franken is making it official, reluctantly announcing his resignation but not without first taking aim at president trump and roy moore. and another congressman is stepping down days after announcing his run for reelection. and the pope wants to change a key line in "our father." the best-known prayer in christianity. but why does the pontiff want to do this? look at the pup eye with the personality. he can smile.

we'll we'll show you what else he can do on this friday, december 8th. from abc news, this is "world news now." >> i think i could watch that video all day long. >> it's a good friday video. we're keeping a close eye on the southern california wildfires. fire crews are battling new fires including one in san diego county which has already destroyed a number of homes. >> officials have just given an update on the largest fire burning north of l.a. in ventura county. it's still out of control and could last until christmas. we'll have full details in a moment. first we want to start the hour off with the reaction to the horror at a new mexico high school. >> two students were shot and killed inside aztec high. another student is also dead, the shooter. >> the first shooting this week was near tacoma, washington, but it could have been much worse

were it not for several acts of bravery. >> reporter: at this high school, a lesson in extreme, tragic violence. >> i never thought this would ever happen to me. it's just really scary, and it's kind of hard to believe. >> reporter: in the small town of aztec, around 8:00 a.m., a gunman enters the school and begins shooting. these students taking cover as gunshots rang out. two stunts, a male and a female, were killed. officers, some with their own kids at the school arrived within a minute of the first call. >> we could hear casings hitting the floor. >> reporter: the gunman is now dead. police will not say if he was a student or how he died. and law enforcement sources tell abc news that the responding officers actually had to shoot through a locked door in order to get into the school. upstairs, they found the alleged gunman dead, a hand gun and multiple magazines next to the suspect. clayton sandell, abc news, denver. >> and police have now revealed that that gunman was in fact a

student at that school. but we're going to turn back to southern california where the wildfires are growing more and more ferocious. 439 homes have been destroyed in ventura county alone. that fire could last several more weeks. and now new fires have erupted including one in san diego county. that one has destroyed at least 20 homes so far and those santa ana winds are fueling the fires expected to last through sunday. >> right now six major fires are burning out of control stretching from santa barbara to san diego. that blaze exploded over six and a half square miles in hours, killing at least a dozen racehorses. marci gonzalez is on the front lines with details. >> reporter: a new wildfire now spreading fast in san diego county, thick smoke blanketing streets as residents rush to evacuate. >> i've been going up and down the roads, making everybody leave. i've got one left. i need to tell the sheriffs to

go get him, he won't leave. >> reporter: to the north, 150 square miles scorched. the thomas fire closing in on this beach front community, the heat melting glass over what was the back glass of this car and over staircases leading to nowhere. over 400 structures destroyed. >> hospitals, homes, people's livings destroyed. >> reporter: across all of the while fires, the flames are fueled by low humidity and powerful santa ana winds with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. >> mother nature decides when we are going to be able to put the fire out. >> reporter: until then, a scramble four so many to grab what they can. and get out. >> mandatory evacuation! >> reporter: nearly 200,000 people under mandatory evacuation orders. even the youngest, so grateful for the firefighters and showing their appreciation. >> one turkey. thank you. >> reporter: for their days of

relentless work to contain the flames. and they likely have at least several days to go with these strong winds expected through the weekend. so a tough battle ahead, especially for some of these firefighters on the front lines who have lost their own homes. kenneth and diane? >> it's so difficult to look at some of those images of entire communities up in flames. >> they've had a really tough week, tough weeks and months to come as well. the best way to get a sense of these wildfires is from above. >> let's take a look from a helicopter pilot at kabc in los angeles, these images are incredible. >> reporter: we're at the heel of the fire, nestled between the communities of fillmore and santa paula. that is on fire right now, a very large section. communities down here are extremely worried about the winds. the winds are really starting to pick up at this hour, gusting from 25-35 miles per hour.

firefighters are worried about the embers that will embed themselves and go downrange in those communities, possibly sitting off more spot fires. we're keeping a close eye on it as the winds pick up in the ventura county area. those embers get embedded in the smoke and get carried and can be extremely dangerous. you'll see this big fire on a hillside and all of a sudden a hillside a mile or two away will start catching on fire, and the fire continues from one mountaintop to another. >> you start looking at those images and you get an idea of how big they are and how much smoke is in the air now. that's a big concern. >> it really is. and you have to see it from that viewpoint to really get a sense of it. those winds are so forceful spreading smoke from the wildfires hundreds of miles north to the san francisco bay area, triggering spare the air warnings from now until sunday. >> the question is when will the wind let up.

melissa consansa is joining us with answers on that. >> we are continuing with these red flag warnings along southern california. now they're lasting through sunday evening. so while we see these winds weaken just slightly for your friday, we're talking about wind gusts in some of the valleys around 20-40 miles per hour and in the mountains closer to 50 miles per hour. that means the fire danger remains high and we keep low relative humidity through the weekend. now the big headline from washington. congress has averted a government shutdown, at least for the next two weeks. the house and senate approved a temporary funding bill to keep federal agencies running through december 22nd. the reprieve came on the same day president trump met with congressional leaders from both parties to discuss a longer-term budget. both sides called the meeting productive. but the democrats want

protections for the d.r.e.a.m.ers attached to new legislation while republicans want to deal with the issue separately. congressman trent franks says he will leave office next month amid allegations of sexual harass mps. he announced his resignation admitting that while he and his wife struggled with infertility i discussed child surrogacy with two female staff members. he said he never physically intimidated any staff member or attempted to >> have any sexual contact with them but regrets that the conversation caused distress. franken's resignation comes after it's womeight women accusf sexual misconduct. he says he recalls the incidents differently and mary bruce asked republican senator bill cassidy if there's a double standard at work. >> no. franken didn't have to resign.

there's clearly no due process. but when you have everybody coming after you, that's what he chose to do. but that's really up to franken and up to moore, not up to the parties. >> minnesota governor mark dayton is expected to appoint his lieutenant governor to fill the seat until an election next year. the white house is dismissing criticism about his health after he slurred a speech. sarah sanders said that his throat was dry and nothing more. he will undergo a physical early next year and the results will be released. the pope wants the roman catholic church to alter the wording of the "lords prayer" also referred to as the "our father". the issue is the line that leads, lead us not into temptation.

lights is to blame for a fire in tennessee. it started in some bushes outside a home in nashville. eventually, the whole front of the home caught fire. two women sleeping inside woke up and put out the flames. gosh, everybody is okay. the parents of the tampa serial killer will be hiding to cour -- heading to court. they will explain why they shouldn't be held in contempt due to their lack of cooperation. turning now to the mysterious disappearance and death of a young woman after she met somebody on the possible dating app tinder. >> her date and her date's roommate are speaking out after being named as persons of interest in the case. here's amy robach. >> reporter: the last time family and friends saw 24 year old sydney loof was in this snapchat. like so many others, the popular

in malibu, firefighters pouncing on fires there. the thomas fire raging across ventura county, barrelling into the town of la conchita. firefighters battling a blizzard of embers and ash. you can see inside this ridge, the fire engulfing both sides of the canyon. we watched the fire line leap across this mountain. they are dropping as much water as they possibly k the idea is to stop the fire from getting to this charred part of the mountain to the avocado fields and homes below. and we found anthony and rene sprinting back to their home. it was a scramble repeated thousands of times in california this week, rene ripping photos off the walls of her children's room. willing to help any help in the dash to friday. why the wedding dress? >> we've been together since i was 19.

donald trump jr.'s failure to answer questions about his conversations with his father. >> reporter: the white house is facing questions about why donald trump jr. is refusing to tell congress what he told his father after news broke about his controversial meeting in trump tower with a russian lawyer. trump jr. spent about eight hours before the house intelligence committee, answering questions about his june 2016 meeting. he had been told the russian lawyer had dirt on hillary clinton as part of russia and its government support for mr. trump. trump jr. acknowledged discussing the matter with the president when the news broke over the summer, but he refused to describe that discussion, citing attorney/client privilege, because he said lawyers for him and his father were also on the phone. the top democrat on the committee says that's bogus. >> in my view, there's no attorney/client privilege that protects a discussion between father and son.
