expect. cecily. >> and jim, we can expect a lot of this, especially in south jersey and delaware. we are live on sky6 taking a look at cape may. the snow has been falling there since about 3 o'clock this afternoon and notice it is accumulating on the grass right now. at this point the roads are just wet but that will be changing because this system has plenty of moisture. storm tracker6 live double scan showing it looks like it's snowing in philadelphia right now. this is verga. s are not reaching the ground. there's plenty of moisture with this. as we zoom out you can see it's almost a conveyor belt of moisture. the snow extends from south jersey right now cape may county, all the way into new orleans. areas near houston, as much as 5-inches of snow and this storm is going to be a little bit closer to the coast than earlier anticipated during the week. so, what this means is we're getting a pretty good thump of snow in south jersey and delaware. this is where we have the winter storm warnings in effect until 7 o'clock

tomorrow evening. philadelphia areas northwest winter weather advisories and also winter weather advisories along the immediate coastline where we will be seeing a little bit of mixing tomorrow afternoon. so this shows expected precipitation type. and except for the jersey shore, the delaware beaches, we're talking about all snow. it will be most of the day snowing so we have that accuweather alert continuing for tomorrow, the steadiest between 9 o'clock in the morning, 3 o'clock in the afternoon during the heart of the day. highest totals south and east and roads will be a problem. i'll talk more about that and have the expected snowfall map in the seven-day forecast. jim. >> all right cecily. let's switch live to "action news" reporter chad pradelli at the penndot yard in norristown. what is penndot doing for what has turned out to be a legitimate snow event. >> reporter: penndot a brining salting and plowing as needed. this is really the calm before

the storm. crews are getting rested but here in the overnight hours this place will be bustling. penndot crews have been loading up on salt getting prepared for the first winter blast of the season. drone6 captured the preparations for overnight. brining operations were completed earlier today. once the snow moves in, though, an army of trucks will hit the road once again. >> right now we're prepared to deploy 250 trucks. that's our game plan going into this. we'll continue to monitor the forecast tonight. as things change and things go worse, we have the ability to bring in another 182 trucks in if needed. >> reporter: in the game of snow season this is the first inning. supplies are plentiful at penndot. still old man winter can be unpredictable. >> we've taken it seriously. they've seemed to up the totals. more accumulations. >> reporter: officials caution a warm fall may not

11:30 to do the bulk of the work. they say they are ready for this first storm. officials with the south jersey transportation authority say they've been watching the storm since wednesday and have spent today brining the atlantic city expressway before the snow is expected to hit. >> our trucks will be out there salting and plowing for the duration of the storm and we're going to keep the express ways as clean as possible. >> reporter: workers with the atlantic county department of public works have about 450 miles of roads to cover according to the supervising engineer of highways and bridges. they're performing final checks on vehicles and loading them with salt but they're not brining for a reason. >> if it does rain we lose that -- that -- it dilutes the brine so that we won't be able to treat it down to a lower temperature and actual -- it could actually start to refreeze. >> reporter: but they have a message for drivers. >> we'll ask them if we see people out we'll ask the public to stay 75 feet behind our equipment, if -- if we

57-year-old langhorne resident gregory leiber died today when his vehicle was hit by a piece of debris. the unknown object went through the windshield and hit leiber in the head. it happened as he was driving east on the turnpike in whitemarsh township at 11:00 this morning. police believe the debris went airborne after being hit by a truck in the westbound lanes and they're now looking for the driver of that truck. 48-year-old james howell has now been charged in the deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a teenager in trevose. howell was arrested yesterday in west philadelphia. police say his pickup truck struck and killed 19-year-old jessica kurtz on street road november 27th. a second teen was injured but survived. the 2900 block of north judson street in north philadelphia was the scene of a dog attack this afternoon that injured an 80-year-old woman and saw a police officer grazed by a bullet. odom is live at temple university hospital. vern, this one needs an explanation. >> reporter: and, jim, i am prepared to offer one. tonight officer kevin fay has gone home to heal from his ricochet wound sustained this afternoon in north philadelphia. he was saving the life of a grandmother who was being viciously attacked by her granddaughter's pitbull. late this afternoon, 34-year-old officer kevin fay left temple university hospital after being treated for a ricochet bullet wound to his leg. the 39th district officer was hit when he fired several shots to kill a pitbull in the midst of a vicious attack on an eight-year-old woman who lives here at 29th and judson. the dog lives here as well. >> unfortunately the 80-year-old female sustained some very significant injuries from those dog bites. >> i think our officer saved her life and hopefully she can hang on.

i'm glad our officer is safe. he was my son's age. it was kind of emotional for me. >> reporter: the incident is still under investigation as the mayor heaps praise on his police force if. >> they do a tough job every day. they wade into the danger without thinking twice about it. >> reporter: so, jim, four year philadelphia police veteran kevin fay is recovering from that flesh wound from that ricochet bullet that hit his left thigh. the 80-year-old grandmother is in critical condition at this hour with major injuries to both of her legs. i'm vernon odom, channel6 "action news" at temple university hospital in north philadelphia. >> thank you vernon. one of jerry sandusky's adopted sons is heading to jail. a judge today sentenced jeffrey sandusky to three and a half to six years in prison. the 42-year-old admitted that he pressured a teenaged girl to send him naked photographs

and he asked the girl's sister to perform a sex act. sandusky pleaded guilty to 14 counts back in september. camden's troubled baseball stadium will be torn down and replaced by rutgers university athletic fields. the school's board has developed a plan to redevelop campbell's field. the stadium was built with high hopes in 1999 but ran into financial trouble and eventually lost its minor league team, the camden river sharks. rutgers has not yet set a date for demolition. the army/navy game returns to philadelphia this weekend. many of the players are already in town for a pregame tradition. both naval academy and west point students jog up the steps of the art museum for the rookie relay. espn's college game day will be broadcast live from south philadelphia tomorrow morning. coming up on "action news" tonight, the moment a philadelphia woman learns her entire home will be remodeled for free.

>> we have new information about the fire at the barclay friends senior center in west chester. investigators now say they believe the fire started outside the building in the area of a covered patio. however, the exact cause is still under investigation. the atf is awaiting results of additional testing.

they expect to announce that information next week. two charities are teaming up to remodel a local family's home for free. "action news" was there as sean and tara o'malley were surprised by the good news in northeast philadelphia today. the couple have three children, one of whom is battling leukemia. the philadelphia flyers charity and michael's way began the home project today. they're planning a special valentine's day reveal february 14th. four philadelphia firefighters are on a mission to help the victims of hurricane maria in puerto rico. george perez jr. and his colleagues checked in for their flight at philadelphia international airport this morning. they are heading to the island. i imagine they're already there now to distribute food and water to the many residents who are still in dire need of help. they'll be working with the salvation army throughout their two-week trip. a new $20 million lab will provide a new kind of educational opportunity for

pre-k students in the school district of philadelphia. today the district welcomed the public into its new agriculture and environmental lab at the pratt early learning center in the 2200 block of north 22nd. the activities are specifically designed for pre-k students. the lab is opened to all preschoolers in the district. the students at saint mark's high school in newark delaware had good reason to celebrate today. and celebrate they did. the school just received a $1.5 million give from the lawrence hyde jr. charitable trust and the family of steven hyde. steven hyde serves on the school's board. he and his wife lisa presented donation today. giant inflatables decked the home in toms river. the newman family say they have about a hundred of the giant inflatables on their property. several are 15 to 20 feet tall. the newmans have been adding to their collection for the

>> more often than not the first snow of the season is like a flurry. >> not here. >> a passing flake or two. >> the past 24 hours every model run shows a stronger storm and closer to the coast and that has a big impact on snowfall totals. it can happen early december and it will. let's go live on sky6. you like to forget that kind of stuff right? taking a look live at the rothman ice rink at dillworth park where it's pretty crowded for this friday night. it's dry cloudy and cool in philadelphia. but as you can see in cape may, the snow continues to fall and really south jersey and delaware are the areas that will get the jackpot amounts as far as snow. so, do you want to build a snowman? i know my kids do. and this type of snow is perfect. temperatures are marginal, so with temperatures right around freezing, it's not going to be that light powdery snow. it's going to be a heavy wet

snow. it's great snow for packing. on the flip side, though, it's kind of tough for shoveling so we may have a lot of sore backs on sunday from shoveling all that snow. let's show you double scan live and you can see that band of snow continues falling across cape may central delaware. it will take awhile for that to advance up to the north and the west so you can see that garden state parkway right now, it's snowing from atlantic city down through cape may. 47 also route one in dover and this is just really the leading edge of the moisture. the cold air is in place. it almost smells like snow out there. philadelphia 37 degrees. reading and allentown 34. wilmington 37. cape may with that snow dropped down to 34 degrees in trenton 36. so satellite and radar showing a few things. first of all you can see the clouds in place. you can see the moisture moving in. and if you look at the streamline the little arrows they basically meet here. this is what's known as a convergence zone.

this is a stalled front and that's what that low pressure will ride along and as it intensifies it will kind of bend a little farther up to the north much future tracker showing by 11 o'clock tonight that snow line really hasn't advance the much north and west. however by the time you wake up tomorrow morning, 7 o'clock, it's snowing in philadelphia along. i-95 corridor, it really fills in during the afternoon. by 1 o'clock it's snowing everywhere except for right along the coast, the immediate jersey shore and the delaware beaches where that ocean temperature of 49 degrees there will be a little bit of mixing and that will have an impact on the snow amount. by 5 o'clock beginning to shut off in the northern lehigh valley by 10:30 at night just a few lingering snow showers. you'll notice these amounts have increased since yesterday. the poconos lehigh valley we're looking at one to two slushy inches. not really a big event: i-95 corridor two to 4 inches.

interior south jersey and delaware this is the jackpot zone. four to 8-inches williamstown hammonton millville smyrna and dover an little bit less along the coast with some of that mixing. so the road conditions depend on where you are. central delaware southeast new jersey snow covered roads. philadelphia i-95 corridor kind of slushy. it will be slick. lehigh valley and the far northwest suburbs it will melt during the day. the roads are wet but it will be refreezing at night so do be careful. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast tomorrow accuweather alert. it's snowy, it's cold, 34 degrees. snow falling throughout the day light hours. by sunday 39, dry out but wind chills in the 20's. monday partly sunny 41. a clipper moves through on tuesday giving us another shot of a rain or snow shower as we start hanukkah. 42. wednesday the high only 30. thursday it stays bitter, the high 38 -- or 35 and friday the potential for more rain and snow with a high of 38 and i will have new information on the storm coming up on "action
