elsewhere combination of the snow win made both driving and even walking a bit of the challenge all day long. in philadelphia the suburbs, and in delaware. it is saturday night walter's off i'm brian taff. the big story on "action news" tonight is piled up outside your front door. we have live team coverage on the season's first snowstorm annie mccormack is in center city philadelphia trish hartman is with sledders in montgomery county. but lets get things started with melissa magee at the "action news" big board with how much snow we have seen and how much more we can expect. >> brian moisture will taper off west/east direction as we go during the night time hours looking at the big picture the storm tracker six live double scan radar 3-d you can see the snow from new england back through our area and off in the mid atlantic region as well but notice back edge or the western edge of that precipitation moving through central pennsylvania, as we speak. this will continue to push eastward as we go throughout the rest of tonight and that mixing line, closer to the

coast, but as we head inland and closer to home, storm tracker six live double scan street level notice pockets of snowfall there for lehigh county and allentown along route 100, to the south of that region as well as reading berks county also into lancaster where heavier bands are setting up. also move you further east, and in philadelphia, right along i-95 corridor the snow is light in nature but it is pretty steady and will continue to be steady as we go throughout the rest of the evening hours if you are traveling on i-95 down southward into wilmington and just to the east of that area in woodbury we are dealing with light even moderate pockets of snowfall at this hour. as far as snow we have seen so far newark delaware 2.9 inches florence 2.8, cape may, new jersey 3 inches. three and a half inches reported in trenton. vineland coming in with a inch and a half. in trevose 3 inches. exton, three as well as in new tripoli and also, in graterford, we have seen 2.6

inches of snow. wayne about 2.2 inches of snow. winter storm warning we had across south jersey has been since cancelled with the exception of the cape may county. that stays up. winter weather advisories for everyone else until sunday at 1:00 o'clock in the morning as the snow will persist. so lets talk about what we can expect for the rest of tonight an additional coat to go 2 inches is likely where you get a heavier band that sets up. this will end from a west to east direction, 8:00 in the northwestern suburbs clearing coast by midnight and something else to keep in mind temperatures will be dropping in the 20's so any slush or wet surfaces will refreeze, overnight tonight and as you wake up tomorrow morning. we have got more details on the second half of the weekend coming up with the accu weather forecast, brian. >> melissa see you soon thank you. we have developing news as a result of the snow, a major traffic situation the southbound lanes of the northeast extension were closed for much of the last two hours between lansdale and mid county exchange. it is all because of the major

crash between berks and schultz road at 4:00 o'clock today. we are told it involved a tractor trailer and suv and police now tell thaws four people were hurt at least one of them critically. one lane just reopened, but delays are still considerable. it could last well into the night. tonight we will keep you posted as we get more details. police are also believing that slick snow coated road for blame for this crash in elsmere, delaware. investigators say a camaro collided with a mercedes on the south du pont bridge where just before 3:30 this afternoon. a 14 year-old boy was hurt but we're told his injuries are not serious. meanwhile early december snow turned center city in to a winter wonderland combing decorations and putting people in a holiday mood. annie mccormack is live at dilworth park with how people spent this first real, snowy day, of the winter, hi there, annie. >> reporter: hi, brian. this when it is new we have in the seen in a year is

absolutely gorgeous. especially because of the timing here at dilworth park. you can see people are gathering to watch the deck the hall lights show. people telling us that this snowfall actually attracted them to come to this city today. lets take a listen. this is what travelers saw on 76 today snow falling, on the expressway but it didn't stop people from traveling, into center city. >> we love it. we wanted to come because it was snowing and they are all here because of me. i wanted to see christmas village. >> reporter: first snowfall of the season is adding a little extra something, depending on who you ask. >> it makes it more romantic i guess. >> literally feeling christmas but being in the city and looking at sky scrapers is awesome. >> reporter: with the snow falling. >> perfect. >> magical. >> reporter: one of the main attractions at city hall. >> christmas tree. >> reporter: is drawing more crowds to snap family photos. >> really pretty with all of the light bulbs on the snow

and light bulbs it is really cool. >> reporter: beautiful now but on the ground especially the sidewalks, we're also seeing the first slush of the season. here at dilworth park they are working to keeping up with clearing it away back out here live we are taking a look at 15th street right now. you can see road here is wet but there is nothing like a thick layer of snow that is on the cars, able to come through and as early as yesterday the city streets department, was getting prepared with, trucks, that included plows and 50,000 tons of salt, and they do have available. another thing to note the city of philadelphia is in a code blue which means look out for homeless and our pets, bring pets indoors. you could face a 500-dollar fine if you do not. if you do see a pet that is outdoors you can contact, act philadelphia, we have their phone number on our web site as well. reporting live in dilworth park annie mccormack for

channel six "action news". >> annie thank you. one of the many creative "action news" photographers used dash cam to capture snowy slushy drive through roselyn, montgomery county this morning. the side streets around easton road were coat budd fairly easy to navigate, on a day most folks decided to stay home and play in the yard. many of those who did not choose to stay inside hit the hill taking advantage of the perfect sledding conditions. "action news" reporter trish hartman is live in one of the prime slopes in lower moreland and you got quite the assignment here, trish. >> reporter: i did it was a fun time brian. lower moreland high school still coming down here right now. give you an idea how much snow we have? let me get right even on the measuring stick here. we have about 5 inches here. now of course, today most of the sledders packed it in bait is cold, dark out but earlier today kid were having a blast here and parents say this is a winter tradition that the kid love coming back for every

most of the day to day but people were still out there taking care of errands in gloucester city the streets were pretty clear. folks were out clearing their cars and one family we saw was taking a little walk in the falling snow to get their groceries back home. snow again forced cancellation is today including perhaps oddly what was billed as world's largest snowfall fight. the snow day at six flags was cancelled as a precaution, how about that it was supposed to take place at six flags in jackson and simultaneously their parkas cross america as part of the holiday in the park festivity. participants were going to use plush balls in place of the actual snow balls no shortage of those today, park management hopes to reschedule the event. the sheriffs from delaware county got all dressed up and ready to go shopping. officers helped 40 children do their christmas shopping at wal-mart in springfield. money for shopping spree was collect through donations. one of the officers who took part was nick brady who spent the past four months in the hospital and still recovering

from third degree burns but he is determined to be there, for the kid today. and this plane touched down in new castle this morning carrying 120 dogs in need of new families here in the delaware veil. they made trip from the overcrowded shelters in the phoenix, arizona area they will be put up for adoption next week at vet hosted by brandywine valley spca. bringing dogs to chester county was a strategic decision. in arizona there are more small dogs then there are adopters and here in this area we have more adopters for small dogs then we have dogs so it is a terrific match up to save lives. >> the mega adoption event takes place next saturday and sunday at the 23rd street armory in philadelphia, the adoption fee is $20.

and about enjoying snow and bundled up because temperatures are cold. here's the picture outside this picture was taken from dan in ocean city, at wonder land pier and you can see the snow there at the boardwalk and snow on the ride as well. we had snow earlier in south jersey and heavier band certainly did shift inland across i the five corridor and north an west. visibility is a factor throughout the rest of tonight we are down to a mile for allentown. lancaster. mile and a half in millville. up to 2 miles for dover and cape may. if you are traveling on the roads dealing with light snow but it is, steadied in nature and reducing visibility in some parts of the area temperatures are cold with that northerly wind draining all of that cold air southward it is 30 in trenton. thirty in philadelphia. twenty-nine for reading. lancaster. at the coast in beach haven 32 thirty-two in cape may. some spots where we are find something mixing. temperatures are right at freezing mark or slightly below and that is why we have that mixed precipitation in comparison to inland spots.

we will show you is what going on the radar. here's storm tracker six live double scan radar you can see the snow setting up across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys but mixing right across coastal sections of new jersey. we will go in tighter on street level with storm track er six with heavier bands just to the north and west. right along i-95 corridor for philadelphia and wilmington but as you november west ward on route 422 and norristown also malvern, the purple lavenders that is an indication of heavier banding setting up. also to the west in honey brook down into oxford and just to thee of quarryville. down across, new jersey you can see in south jersey some light snowfall here along route 70, for wrightstown seaside heights, along the garden state parkway and that mixed precipitation starting to back off a little bit as this storm system does wrap up , and move on off to our north and east. satellite six with action radar see that snow from the mid-atlantic up through new england with the western edge
