lyndon wold, new jersey. we've reached it in dover, millville and at the airport in atlantic city. and over the next hours or so we should get everybody up above the freezing mark and that will get some melting under way. even the sunshine with below freezing temperatures can sometimes get that started. the winds have picked up to 14 miles per hour in philadelphia and that is giving us a wind chill making it feel like it's 21. bundle up if you're headed outside and look out for some icy patches below on the sidewalks and side streets. today we're going to get up to 41 for a high probably around 3:00 and then you can see how we dip this evening down to around the freezing mark by 8:00 or 9:00 that means anything that does manage to melt today and doesn't completely dry out in the breeze blowing could refreeze tonight. when i step inside we'll take a look at the exclusive

accuweather 7-day forecast. there's another cold shot coming in the middle of the week. >> philadelphia police are investigating a bizarre accident that has left a woman dead. the woman was a passenger when she was pushed out of the door. it happened just before 2:00 this morning. police say the woman tried to grab the door but fell out of the vehicle as it was moving and a black dodge challenger that was behind the truck hit the woman. police say the silver f-150 has ladder racks, a missing tailgate and a sticker on the rear window. they're looking for surveillance video in hopes of identifying the two drivers. police in delaware county believe black ice may have contributed to this accident overnight. a driver lost control in havertown at 12:30 this morning. the vehicle crashed into other cars that were kwating to make a turn. there were no jersey reporting. >> it didn't take long to find slippery roads and sidewalks. a major concern after our first

snowfall of the season. >> several inches or more fell on most of the region and today many people have the task of cleaning up. crews have been busy all night long clearing area roadways and parking lots. the action cam was at the springfield mall in delaware county overnight to ensure people don't have issues parking and walking around. trish hartman was in the suburbs taking a look at the first snowfall of the season. >> reporter: as the sun went down and the temperatures dropped, the snow started to stick to the roads in montgomery county. >> i traveled from hatfield all the way down here so the roads weren't that bad. >> getting there. it's starting to stick now but it's not too bad with all-wheel drive. >> reporter: these drivers didn't run into issues but they were anxious to get home for the night. >> reporter: they were on their way home from a christmas party. >> they've been keeping on the secondary roads.

it's been a little slippery. >> what's your favorite part about the snow? >> that i get to eat it. >> reporter: the snow removal crew will be working all weekend with more than a dozen protsz to clear. this kind of work doesn't usually come this early. >> i'm a landscaper by trade and as you can see the back of the truck is filled with leaves. >> reporter: a kids' paradise on a snowy day. >> it's crazy, and it's fun. >> reporter: it's not everyone's cup of tea. >> if i would be inside with hot chocolate, yes. about when you have kids have you to be out. >> reporter: montgomery county is under a code blue until 9:00 a.m. monday, meaning these cold conditions can be dangerous or deadly for anyone without shelter. if you see someone who does need shelter you can contact the homeless street outreach team. we have posted that information

at 6abc.com. trish hartman p channel 6 action news. >> the jersey shore got its fair share of the snow from the first storm of the season. cape may county last night as the workers cleared the parking lot. far nately it was a light coating at the time. and workers were ms busy cleaning the streets and sidewalks in wilmington, delaware. they saw several inches. >> the snow has added extra holiday magic to the christmas villa age in center city. people stayed bundled and took pictures by the tree. some of those visitors the snow added a little something extra to the decorations and the spirit of the attraction. >> it's really pretty. with all of the light bulbs on the snow on the light bulbs it's really cool. >> i wasn't feeling christmas

problem this morning, ice from melting snow. thousands of people are trying to stay warm due to downed power lines. the high is expected to reach 42 degrees. parts of the yellow hammer state saw up to 8 inches of snow. southerners aren't accustomed to winter weather and towns aren't equipped to handle snow removal but the warmer temperatures will help melt it away sfwl we're going to warm up a little bit this afternoon. >> that side street in atlanta looked worse than some of our streets. there are some streets that did pick up snow coverage and sidewalks too and we're still in the process of trying to melt that away. places that were treated like center city looking fine. sky 6 right now showing the christmas tree and all of the roads dry. once you get out into the suburbs you might have eye little bit more of a problem. satellite the wide view showing you how the snow the long gone. it wrapped up by 11:00 to

midnight across much of the reason. now you see some cloud cover overnight that's really evaporating and this stuff trying to get at us from the west looks like it has a tendency to fall apart. we're going for mostly sunny skies today. it's still cold, 30 degrees in trenton, still below freezing in philadelphia and with these numbers once the sun gets working on that snow, even though the air temperature is below freezing you can start to see some melting in allentown 26 degrees a little harder with that cold temperature and 30 in reading. these numbers are going to come up above the freezing mark and we will wind up getting melting underway. wind chills are a problem. it feels like 22 in trenton, 21 in philadelphia, 21 in allentown and we expect winds to be 10-20 miles per hour as we go through the day. bundle up if you have plans to head out. 4.1 inches in philadelphia,

delaware county up to 4.9. trevose. and we had a little spots that had a little more snow added to the picture but in general this was a about a 3-6 inch snowfall. 4.8 in mount holly new jersey. cherry hill at an even 5. so that's about what you have to deal with on the ground. we are improving in a hurry. by 10:00 just over the freezing mark we're expecting a high of 41 degrees at 3:00. some melting i will point out that by the time we get to about 7:00 or 8:00 we do dip closer to the freezing mark and by 9:00 we're below freezing and that means that any streets that managed to melt today and didn't completely dry might freeze up again overnight and tomorrow morning you might be dealing with some of that. high temperatures not bad about 40 from allentown all the way

board this morning showing you the snow is long gone, cloud cover gone with it and this additional cloud cover out to the west really having a hard time getting over the mountains as the air comes oun r over the mountains it down slopes and it tends to dry it out. despite the cloud cover you see in person pennsylvania western pennsylvania we're going to maintain sunny skies. the temperature still cold at 31 degrees if philadelphia. 26 in trenton and allentown. the wind chills making it feel like the low 20s. lancaster actually a wind chill of 16 right now. bundle up, gloves, hats and all that extra stuff as you're heading out. we are going to be breezy today with a 10-20 mile per hour wind but a high of 41 degrees probably at about 3:00 so we'll get some melting with the sun and the breeze and those temperatures above freezing.

covered in snow after our first winter storm of the season. >> plus, it is a cold wake-up call to get ready for even colder air to move in. meteorologist david murphy is in for chris sowers with the accuweather details. >> it is real cold out there. we are going to get better as we go a little later into the morning and afternoon. a little breezy out there. as we take a look at satellite, the cloud cover has really dispersed as the snow has moved away and at midnight the last of the snow flakes and this additional cloud cover . it's still just 26 in allentown. you look at these numbers obviously it's a good morning to grab the coat and the hat and a pretty decent coat as you head outside. there is a breeze there will be building to 10-20 miles per hour and it's got wind chills making it feel like it's 22 in allentown, 22 in trenton, 21 in

allen ton and in philadelphia, 22 wind chill in wilmington and it feels like 25 in millville. added reasons to bundle up as you head out. we are going to see temperatures improve. we are going for a high of 41 probably at about 2:30 or 3:00 this afternoon. so you'll have sunshine, you'll have temperatures above freezing for several hours this afternoon in particular and we will melt some of that snow off of the pavement where it is onlily partially cleared and maybe off some of those side streets as well. i will caution you we're going to drop down below freezing by about 9:00 or so tonight and that means anything that has melted and is wet and hasn't dried out in that breeze, has a tendency or a chance to refreeze overnight. we are looking at a real cool-down on wednesday. i'll have that for you coming up. >> i'm scared of it. thanks, david. as david mentioned, snow is still on the ground this morning

throughout the delaware valley and especially on a lot of secondary streets. last night the sun went down and yes, so did the temperatures causing slippery conditions on many roads. the drivers we talked to say they managed to get where they needed to go by slowing down and the early snow gave people an early start. >> i'm a landscaper by trade and most of us are still doing leaf cleanup. as you can see the back of the truck is filled with leaves. >> children weren't worried about leaves. they spent much of the night sledding. their only regret the snow didn't fall on a school day. >> time now 9:32 and the snow was a bit late to start but when it did it began to fall and came at a steady pace. it was picture-esque. despite the snowfall people got out and about. we came across one little girl who had fun throwing a snowball at her dad.

snow may be to blame for a collision. it happened near route 49 yesterday afternoon. one of the cars involved overturned on the slippery roads. all three people who were hurt in the crash were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. >> and police say the man who was stabbed repeatedly inside a west philadelphia home this morning knows his attacker. the action cam was at the scene when officers arrived they found a man in his 30s bleeding from at least three stab wounds in the neck and chest. officers drove him to penn presstarian where he was taken into surgery immediately. he is listed in critical condition at this hour. police recovered a knife not far from the house. they believe it is the weapon used. >> burlington police are looking for a person who shot a man in the head on a city street. the action cam was at the scene the intersection of third and rodney streets.

officers got a call about 6:00 in the morning a man was shot here. they found the victim lying on the street with a gunshot wound to the head. he is in critical condition. a man was shot dead while walking between two parked cars in northeast philadelphia overnight. the action cam was at the scene on the 1200 block on greevey street. police got a call that a man was lying on the ground. they found the man had been shot several times. a neighbor said she did not hear gunfire but did hear an argument. investigators have not indicated if they have any moetive or a suspect. >> >> florida police have released video showing a man confronting a broward sheriff's office deputy in lauderdale lakes. they ordered pierre to let go of

the officer, he refused and the officer opened fire killing him. the family said the officer should not have used deadly force against him. they said he had mental problems after suffering a stroke. >> voters in alabama will go to the polls this tuesday for a special election for a hotly contested senate seat. and beginning today the campaign will use a robo call featuring trump. he is facing allegations of sexual misconduct from several women. democratic candidate is calling for alabama voters to reject moore. meanwhile protests overshadowed a visit by president trump to dwo new museums celebrating the civil rights movement. he attended the museums in jackson, mississippi. some of the icons who were to be honored boycotted the event.

jerry brown says that drought and climate change mean the state faces a new reality in which wildfires will continue to threaten the state. current wildfires could still be burning on christmas day. the fires have been blamed for at least one death and have destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses. >> what can you say? you leave your house and your belongings and people lose their animals. it is a horror. >> ten states are helping in the firefighting efforts trying to bring the blazes under control. >> turning to the local weather talking about extremes, we're dealing with snow and ice. >> there is some ice that has formed overnight. below freezing temperatures still persisting right now. if you see something that looks wet on the roadways i would still slow down even if it's a main road but we do have temperatures that will be getting up above freezing and we'll get some melting going

before too much longer. you can see we're still in the shadows here but plenty of sunshine coming up over the horizon and everybody is going to enjoy that as we go through the morning and in through the majority of the afternoon. currently 26 degrees in allentown and 31 in philadelphia and 30 in wilmington. in millville, new jersey 32. in cape may 37 degrees. there's a bit of a breeze blowing around 10-20 miles per hour so that's another thing to keep in mind as you're dressing for the outdoors, coats, gloves, hats not a bad idea. you'll also need shades behind the wheel because of plenty of sunshine. this cloud cover having a hard time making it over the mountains. i do think we'll wind up mostly sunny throughout the day. in wayne 4 inches, a couple of isolated spots went higher and ridley park in delaware was one of them. we recorded 8 inches. valley forge just 2.8 and

lindenwold, new jersey about the low point. generally it was 3-6 inches across the region. today we went to 4.4 and this is yesterday -- 4.1. it's been at least four years since we got 1 inch of snow in december. this december not as tranquil. mostly sunny skies, chilly conditions. obviously there will be melting under way but pretty early this evening you'll be back below freezing and you'll be careful of anything that looks wet after into. in philadelphia mostly sunny skies overall today. chilly a high of 41 degrees. winds out of the west at 10-20 miles per hour adding to that cool feel. again meltding on some of those sidewalks that have been partially cleared you should be able to get the rest of the sidewalk melted with that sun today. overnight tonight a few clouds,

warm los angeles. >> meteorologist david murphy is here with an exclusive look at your accuweather forecast all bundled up. >> lots of sunshine but there's snow on the ground and temperatures right now are still pretty chilly. satellite shows you the snow is gone. in fact the clouds with it. some clouds having trouble making it over the mountains and i think we are going to maintain mostly sunny skies for the majority of the day. 33 degrees we have finally going above the freeze onmark in philadelphia. and in allentown and reading 32 degrees. 34 in millville. starting to melt some of that snow off the sidewalks and side streets where it did manage to stick in some spots last night. 13 mile per hour wind too and the winds are in general starting to pick up. we expect them to go about 10-20 mourpts on average today. so a little bit chilly and right now the wind chill making it feel like it's just 24 in philadelphia and allentown and not much better in wilmington and in mill vil. as we go through the afternoon we are expecting to get up to 41 degrees for the high. that will probably happen around

downed power lines causing more power outages. hundreds of thousands now in the dark as far north as maine. brian clark, abc news new york. >> we got our share of snow yesterday but nothing quite like that. >> no, thankfully. as we take a look outside, we are dry across the region and the sunshine is up nice and bright. temperatures are also beginning to climb alove the freezing mark and that's helping us out in terms of any sidewalks and side streets. want to be careful on the side stroots and sidewalks because there are some that did get snow covered and may not be clear yet. the stuff off to the west is having a hard time pushing north. it's evaporating as it makes it over to the mountains in our direction so it looks like we'll maintain mostly sunny skies for most of the rest of the day. we have finally gotten above the freezing mark in trenton, philadelphia, reading.

allentown 32, 34 in millville and these temperatures combined with the sun beginning to work with that snow on the surfaces that are icy. we've got winds expected to go 10-20 miles per hour the rest of the afternoon. not super strong but strong enough to add to that chilly feel and right now in fact it feels like it's 24 in allentown and reading and philadelphia and 25 degree wind chill in wilmington 26 in trin ton, temperatures just above the freezing mark and climbing but the wind chills lagging behind. as we take a look at snow, we got about 4.1 inches in philadelphia, almost 5 in lands down. every now and then you've got a little pocket here or there that got a heavy dose of snow but in general this was 3-6 inches. 4.8 in mount holly new jersey, cherry hill at 5 and pittman new
