12:10 pm
but you know what, the ron we went out and got nick foles is for reasons like this and situations like this. i'm excited for nick, obviouslily, i hate it for -- obviously, i hate it for carson wentz for the season that he has been having, but statement it's been the next man up mentality and that's how we approach it this week. >> how soon before carson wentz has the surgery? >> didn't discuss that yet. >> reporter: have you had a chance to talk to him? >> i didn't see him today, got him in and got him out, didn't see him today probably see him later in the week. >> reporter: [inaudible]. >> it's hard to say appears watching the film it was actually before the contact, could be an noncontact deal, but, you know, that's what it

12:13 pm
aggressive, i'm going to lead the football team, it falls on my shoulders more than the players, that's why they need to stay excited about the opportunity they have in front of us. >> >> reporter: he's a guy who played in the pro bowl [inaudible] >> love to be 11-2. everything is great, but you know, at the same time, i know and everybody in the room knows, if you don't have a backup quarterback that's had a snaps in the league it's tough to continue the things that you've done and the things you've built this season. i think it's have you believe and credit to howie and joe and the guys and high relationship with nick and to bring a guy like that in here who is capable of getting the job done.
12:14 pm
>> nick has the track record how much work do you have this week tailoring up? >> when was the lament -- last time we did an rpo with carson outside of a scramble we designed a run for carson wentz. we have not done that many times at all. going forward there's not much we have to do. it's more or less just is he comfortable with? what is nick familiar with? i've known him for a lot of years and you know we're going to continue to have the same communication that carson and i had during the weeks, carson will be a part of helping nick get ready, too, you know. not much going forward is going
12:15 pm
to have change. you have to speak up. >> reporter: is there a timetable [inaudible]. >> not at this point, i can't want to put any limitations on that. >> reporter: what kind of role will he have? >> a lot like, you know, jordon hicks, and you know, jason peters and these guys he can be around in the meeting rooms, watch the tape, even as much as being there on game day, and being another set of eyes for the quarter backs for nick just having his input and having him around the guys, too, it would be a big boost and obviously an opportunity for him now to put the coaching hat on and to help
12:16 pm
nick. >> reporter: have you talked to howie and joe about what kind of plans will be made for the off season? >> i'm focused on the new york giants, man i'm not focused on april, no, not right now. not right now. >> reporter: you mentioned rpos that doesn't change at all? >> no. when you say rpo you mean when he runs? when was the last time he ran on a designed run? >> reporter: his mobility. >> usually it comes on a scramble. ourle rpo game is different than
12:17 pm
the beginning of the season. even in the game yesterday, some of the rps we -- rps we --rpos we did they were down the field we are not asking our quarterback to run on a designed qb run. >> he can practice this week, he has been cleared to practice. >> reporter: the fact that you're 11-2, you climb the mountain. >> ah-huh,. >> reporter: does that make nick foles' task a little less daunting with this already accomplished? >> it's interesting because we're still fighting for not only a playoff game, but home
12:18 pm
field, it's still pretty important these next few games, these next three weeks for us, as a team, you know our mentality we are going to focus on this week and try to put the best game plan together and win a football game up in new york this week and then see what happens after that, but, yeah, it's just, you know we still have a lot of the in front of us, a lot of to play for. >> reporter: [inaudible]. >> he'll be fine, he'll be day-to-day, so i expect him to probably do walk-threw things and -- walk through things potentially on wednesday give him day-to-day situation with him. >> we had a couple of times we were cut out of our lane and
12:19 pm
missing tackles that's something we have to folk -- focus on this week and get better at that, too many contacts yesterday the runner in the open field. guys will get a chance to watch the tape and make corrections and you know down the stretch we have to make sure we sure that end of it up. you haven't been with nick for 6 years, how much of a demand is that? i think it's huge, kind of knowing how he ticks, how he thinks, kind of knowing how he seen me now call the games this year and so i think that relationship is going to be better now, obvious that he gets the starting job all the roles and all the reps and everything during the week it's something that i look forward to and getting ready to go for sunday. >> reporter: now your backup
12:20 pm
quarterback, what have you seen from him and are you comfortable with him. >> nate has done a good job, it's part of the reason we brought him up earlier in the year. teams were interested, we feel real comfortable with him obviously, you know, i've been there, too, i've been there as the third quarterback being brought up and now the number two. not only are we getting rick ready, but nate at the same time has to be prepared to play, a lot of confidence in him. >> reporter: i know you said the offense will be similar with nick, you talked about carson wentz giving him a lot of autonomy especially with his age. is nick getting the keys to the car, the way you had it with carson? nick goes in?
12:21 pm
>> yeah, understand this he is a veteran player who's played and won a lot of games not only here, but other places that he has been. nick is a highly intelligent football player, he is smart, you know to the point of you know, he and i will continue to dialogue like carson and i did during the week. i want to make sure there's plays in the plan that's comfortable with and he likes, i want him to speak his mind like carson would and we keep going. this is a veteran player we're talking about, i feel comfortable doing that. >> reporter: in have you talked about howie about that? >> itch not. >> -- i have not. we're to the point we want to see him doing football
12:22 pm
activities outside the normal workouts, change in direction doing more football work this week. >> reporter: how big of a challenge is that to make sure everybody is on the same page after losing carson? >> it's huge. i think even the guys felt it after the game yesterday, that it's we just rally and away support the next guy and you know from my standpoint you don't waiver, man, you don't let people see you sweat, you put your head down and go to work. you get everybody ready to play. you know it was evident yesterday when carson was out of the game, you saw nick come in and come back and lead us to victory in that game. so, that right there is a great step in the right direction. >> thanks guys. >> okay, you've been listening
