good afternoon in the news. a national senate race takes place in alabama today. a little more than a month since one of the candidates was accused of molestic teenage girls in his 30s. and first, hundreds of people were evacuated from a septa train in montgomery county this morning. after the train hit an unoccupied car on the tracks. no injuries were reported and the crash caused major delays for septa riders during the morning commute. bob brooks is joining us from glen side with more. >> reporter: the big question mark is how did this car come to be on the tracks and what is what investigators are trying to get to the bottom of right now. from chopper 6 hd you knew the

impact was bad but an up close look how fortunate it was no one was inside of the car. at 7:15 a.m. the septa train collided with the car between the stations. >> it was about 7:15 something around there i heard something and i didn't think much of it. this time of day with the commuter traffic it's busy. >> that is mike he works at bio technologies next to the tracks. >> i'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, i watch on a daily basis those cars going around the gates. and you can hear the horns in the distance. >> 500 passengers were on board and luckily nobody was injured but some disabled passengers had to be helped off. while crews worked to clean up the wreckage. septa says it caused 30 minute delays or more for some morning

commuters. >> you can see behind me cars crossing the tracks and things reopened at 10:00 and no word from police on how they think this car wound up on the tracks. bob backs, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. on the weather front a cloudy afternoon and some areas could see showers throughout the day. as we look live outside a view of the ben franklin bridge and i-95 right now. mild temperatures during the lunch time hour but a rush of colder air is on the way. david murphy has the first check of the chilly accuweather forecast. >> more than chilly? >> it's getting down right cold and then tomorrow. right now a lot of clouds in play and a light sprinkle and notice the snow off to the north, stormtracker 6 live double scan in that wide view the closest snow we have is well into the poconos and that is the way it is all morning as we maintain temperatures well above

average, temperatures are creepling up from the south and west is on the light side and pushing east of trenton a brief but steadier downpour, downpour is not the word but a steadier brief hit of rain along the new jersey turnpike and south of bristol. and some tucks into the eastern part of bucks county. and the darker shade of green is steadier but not all that high of an impact rainfall. we'll see a little bit of this as we go through the afternoon, light rain here and there and that is it. 45 in philadelphia right now, 45 in trenton and 41 in allentown. and 48 in millville and cape may and i expect the numbers to add a degree or two. and that is it for the next couple of hours, before we see the numbers slide. a high of 43 degrees and by

4:00, 42 and then the numbers tumble a possibility that we get as low as 35 as soon as 6:00 and down to the 20s at 10:00 and down into the teens in suburbs for overnight lows, here are the numbers, 41 in philadelphia. but look at how we dip to 25 by 10:00 when adam joseph will be on the air on channel 17 and cecily tynan has similar numbers at 11:00. and tomorrow morning 21 degrees. the temperature is not the only story and strong gusty winds build overnight and they are with us as well. bone chilling wind for wednesday and temperatures started in the 20s and 30s in the afternoon and low 30s at best. wind gusts 40 and 50 miles per hour. and the morning windchills as you step out the door tomorrow. and it make its feel like 3 and 8 degrees, and afternoon no better than the teens. and thursday morning a snow shower that makes it slick for the morning commute.

we could be waiting on a winner for hours after the polls close tonight at 8:00 p.m. eastern. abc news montgomery alabama. back here the search is on for a man and woman accused in the shooting of a 31-year-old man in a logan gas station parking lot. and chopper 6 hd was over the scene of the sunoco parking lot. the 5,000 lot of north broad street. police tell "action news" the man was shot twice in the head and chest following an argument. he was taken to the area hospital in critical condition and they are now reviewing surveillance video for more information on the suspects. >> federal and state prosecutors have charged the man with setting off an explosion in the new york city subway system. the 27-year-old now faces five federal offenses including the weapon of mass destruction and bombing of a place of public use. before the attack, he wrote on

massive wild fires in southern california are raging for more than a week now. the so-called thomas fire charr charr charred 230 thousand acres. there are quality warnings for tens of thousands of people and protective face masks are selling out. a preliminary hearing in oakland, california. that killed 36 people. the blaze broke out at the ghost

the airlines made $1.2 billion on baggage fees in just to months. according to the department of transportation that is how much was collected from july to september. the fees are up 10% from the same period last year. this news comes just days after the department announced it was scraping an obama era proposal that would disclose fees for a carry-on bag at the time of purchase. and according to a new study by aaa. premium gas may not live up to the hype. they tested premium and regular gas and some showed some benefits like a boost or some economy. for most cars there was no

david back now with a check of the accuweather forecast. >> can we all just stay under the covers. >> tomorrow is a good day to do that with a cold strong biting is wind. the kind you don't like. stormtracker 6 live double scan try slapping the win in the face i don't think it will workout. sprinkles and showers are around and they are mostly light in the lighter shade of green and over by trenton more action there. but not around much longer, here comes the movement and this is all pushing off to the north and a change over to snow if the poconos but not here.

doesn't look look like a lot of moisture. up in allen tonight it gets colder soon. and 46 is the high and then we dip towards the 30s by dinner time and the shore clouds are around and may take longer and 50 is your high and plunging after that. and lots of clouds in philadelphia and a spotty shower can't be ruled out. we have some of that out there now. 47 is your high but that over the next couple of hours, after that the westerly wind continues to build and strengthen and bring the colder air in from the west. this evening down into the 30s and overnight we expect to drop to 22 degrees for a low in philadelphia and some suburbs in the upper teens and the winds increase too with the increasing cold and winds gusting at 40 miles per hour. in terms of temperatures, here is where we are at 4:00, watch what future tracker 6 does to us tomorrow and overnight into tomorrow. by 7:30 in the morning down to 31 and areas in the teens and

the windchill is the other part of the story and strong blustery winds mixing with the cold air. and the windchill 4:30 and 34 and tomorrow morning single digits even putting a 1 degree windchill and temperatures in the 30s and windchills in the teens tomorrow. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast today 47 and numbers dropping quick during the late day and evening hours and all the way down to 22 for a low. tomorrow bitter cold combined with biting wind and 32 is the high. you'll want to bundle up. really overnight into early thursday morning, we could have a light snow shower here and there. and a coating to an inch is not out of the question not a big deal except it's on the ground as we get the rush hour thursday morning, something to keep in mind. 36 in the afternoon and not as brisk and 34 and mostly cloudy on friday and back into the mid-40s sunday afternoon and monday. >> all right, good christmas shopping weather.
