>> temperatures are quite a bit milder than they were this same time yesterday. if you remember right around the 6:00 we were down into the teens. it's upper 20s and low 30s. 2637 degrees in cape may but we still have a bit of a wind chill. poconos it feels like 24, feels like 29 with the wind in philadelphia, 28 in wilmington and 27 degrees out there in lancaster. so you still need to bundle up but we're not expecting those harsh cold temperatures today. and as you look at the satellite and radar whatever sunshine we see this morning it will quickly fade behind this cloud deck that's approaching from the west. this is a system that could swing through and bring wintry precipitation for some of us overnight. in the meantime it's turning cloudy and chilly today.

31 degrees is the forecasted high, with the wind it will feel like the mid to upper 30s. we'll focus more on that wintry mix that's possible for parts of the area. i'll let you know when it arrives and who sees it in the accuweather 7-day forecast. >> philadelphia police have made an arrest in a shooting that left two teenagers wounded in north philadelphia. police were called for reports of gunfire at around 11:00 last night. when they arrived they found a 17-year-old who had a gunshot wound to the leg. a 15-year-old had suffered a graze wound to the and. both were taken to temple university hospital in stable condition. police have taken one person into custody in connection with this shooting and he is expected spob charged. police are trying to identify a man who was spolt in the -- shot in the eye overnight. it happened just after 1:00 this morning. the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition

where he underwent surgery. police have no suspects or motive for the shooting. >> a delaware county is in shock and hoping a driver in a hit and run will come forward. a hard-working father of two was struck and skilled yesterday morning. the driver kept going. action news reporter trish hartman has the details. >> i don't understand how somebody can keep going. >> reporter: many are wondering the same thing after a man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. friends gathered outside the american legion where he was a member and bartender. >> come forward and speak up. >> reporter: pennsylvania state police say williams stopped his vehicle for an unknown reason on the highland avenue ramp getting on to i-95 south in chester shortly before 3:00 a.m. he then got out of his vehicle and police say a car hit him and kept going heading south on 95.

williams was pronounced dead on the scene by the medical examiner. police are looking for a newer model black volkswagen like this one. >> everybody is kind of hanging on to time. it's a couple of people. >> reporter: family members say they are hoping for closure and what est. happened to him. and the person that did it, they know what they did so they should actually come and turn themselves in. >> reporter: many people have described williams as a hardworking father with a larger-than-life personality. anyone with information is asked to contact state police. reporting in chester, trish hartman, channel 6 action news. >> there were some scary moments for people on a ski lift this weekend. the lift malfunctioned and sent four chairs crashing into one another like dominos.

the malfunction forced resort officials to shut down the lift. the lift is closed until further notice. >> police in south jersey are hoping you can help them identify a church thief. camden county police say a man skoel from a church on december 3rd. they took cash that had been raised for a fund raiser. if you recognize this man in the video, you are urged to call police right away. >> from our delaware news room, state police have identified the suspect killed in a police-involved shooting in wilmington. 30-year-old adam rad cliff was shot and killed when he attempted to run from a stop. he tried to drive off with the ochser hanging on to the passenger door. he later died at the hospital much the officer is okay and is

now on administrative leave pending the investigation. >> a grieving mother has come forward to make a plea with the hope of finding the person who killed her daughter. >> reporter: when she was looking for pictures of her daughter for her funeral, she noticed something that made her smile. >> there was never nothing but this. and that's what everyone had said that her smile, her laugh, and they miss it so much. >> reporter: she says deborah gulliver was a 34-year-old who was trying to find her place in life. on friday june 23rd she was out in the city dropping off applications and hanging out with friends until the early morning hours of saturday june 24th. >> they got off the busy don't know about 5 of 2:00 in the morning and she was found at 3:10. >> reporter: in that small span of time after gulliver parted

ways with her friends she was attacked police say she was stabbed more than 12 times and was found dead at the scene. nothing was taken. >> she had her phone. she had a necklace with her father's gold diamond ring that she always wore. and it was still on her neck. >> reporter: the city of philadelphia is offering up to $20,000 in reward money for the arrest and conviction for the person responsible. all you have to do is call the citizens crime commission at 215-546-tips. >> chuck schumer wants the tsa to speed up plans to detect suicide vests. his request comes after a

similar vest was used in a subway tunnel about a week ago. schumer says the devices are urgently needed. the tsa says the devices are in the testing stage. police are stepping up security for cory booker after he and his family received death threats. booker has an executive protection university providing protection. the two law enforcement agencies are working together to ensure his safety. >> a congressman from nevada has announced he is not running for re-election following accusations of sexual harassment. he denies the accusations against him and has promised to cooperate with the handout ethics investigation. a former staffer and a lobbyist say they were victims of unwanted advances and inappropriate touching. gene simmons is being sued

for sexual al salt. she says the 68-year-old rocker was acting strangely during the interview and touching her knee. she says he also touched her back side during a group photo. >> mario batali is receiving backlash for including a recipe in a statement apologizing for sexual misconduct in his online letter he acknowledged his quote many mistakes and apologized for disappointing his friends, family. he promised to work every day to regain the trust and respect of his fans. then he added a holiday-inspired breakfast recipe. he has been slammed on social media saying he is not taking the the apology seriously. meanwhile top hollywood executives have chosen anita hill. hill leveled sexual harassment

allegations against clarence thomas during his supreme court confirmation hearings back in 1991. she said it happened when the two worked together at the department of education. the commission was formed in the wake of a slew of allegations of sexual abuse. >> the eagles coaching staff was not expecting quarterback nick foles to play just like an uninjured carson wentz. the birds are 11 and 2 while the giants are 2 and 11. new york has a new head coach who is out to prove that he can turn the giants around, but the odds makers are not expecting that to happen. the eagles are heavy favorites. >> i have all the confidence in him. >> time now 6:10. still ahead on action news, celebrating this season.

mix and it turns much, much milder as we head into the new workweek. now we have three days in the accuweather 7-day forecast that will be in the 50s. allentown you were down to 23 at this hour yesterday. 25 in millville and 29 degrees down there in cape may. and as we look at the wind chills, they're not quite as bad as they were yesterday, but it's still a little bit of a bite to the air this morning. it feels like 26 with the wind in millville, 26 in allentown and 29 in philadelphia. so like yesterday you need to bundle up and prepare yourself because it is a little chilly. whatever sun we see we'll ohm see it for the next -- only see it for the next couple of hours, and this cloud deck quickly approaches from the southwest. that's in advance of this next system. a lot of the moisture is going to fizzle out before it makes it into the viewing area. there's an area of high pressure

right here and it's very dry. so as this moisture overspreads it, a lot of it evaporates. nonetheless some is possible overnight tonight. we're seeing this cold high dominate the weather. temperatures are better today than they were on friday. the normal high for this time of the year is 44. we're forecasting the high 41. the warm front lifts through and we start warming up. you'll notice the change come monday afternoon. high temperatures top out in the mid to upper 40s and tuesday it feels a whole lot better. increasing clouds today starting out with a sliver of sun. it's mainly cloudy throughout the day and overnight tonight, during the late evening hours, say 9:00, 10:00 in the evening, we start to see a little light precipitation breaking out. this blue would be a wintry mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, green representing drizzle or

family, including a woman in a wheelchair and a dog are forced out of their home after it catches fire. >> and the winds are not giving firefighters a break as they try to bring deadly wildfires under control in southern california. >> all of that snow will begin to melt as we begin to warm up. meteorologist chris sowers joins us now. >> look at this graphic here. it kind of proves the point. so this is where we started out yesterday at this time. millville, potstown all the way down to 10 degrees, allentown 14, philadelphia 21. fillville yesterday 10 they're now at 26. allentown was 14 they're up to 31. big difference. it's still cold. temperatures are still below freezing but this is a whole lot

better. millville 26, philadelphia 33, trenton 30 and wilmington checking in at 28 degrees. as we look at the satellite an radar we have a little bit of cloud cover starting to sneak in from the southwest and this is going to be the trend over the next few hours. maybe we see an hour or two's worth of sun but we see these clouds increase from southwest to northeast in advance of the next system that should sneak in here overnight tonight. it's a moisture starved system. we're only talking about patchy drizzle or a spotty shower but it's still a little bit of moisture that's going to move in here. forecast for today a little bit of sun, cloud cover by afternoon, lunchtime temperature 40, by 4:00, 40 degrees. when i come back in just a few minutes we'll talk more about the precipitation expected whoever night and a little later in the forecast i'll focus on what you can expect on christmas day. guys? >> fire forced a family into the cold night air in the parkside section overnight. a 63-year-old woman in a

wheelchair was res tued from her burning home just after midnight. a 66-year-old man was also rescued along with the family dogs on the second floor. it took just 10 minutes to bring the fire under control. the american red cross is helping a total of four people displaced by the blaze. the instigation. upper darby police are talking to a driver sho plowed his car. the driver's nissan rammed the vehicl after going out of control. the driver was treated at scene for minor injuries. so far police have not filed charges and have not indicated why the car went out of control. >> in california, more evacuations have been ordered in fire ravaged areas of los angeles. the so-called thomas fire is now the third largest wild fire in california history, costing more than $100 million. >> winds are only fanning that blaze that is already being blamed for killing at least one

firefighter. abc's brian clark has more in this report. >> reporter: the massive wildfire that's been plaguing vast areas of north los angeles for 13 days is flang up again. >> if people are in this area they need to get out. >> reporter: dry lush, and high winds fanning the flames. some residents waking up in the middle of the night realizing the third largest fire in california's history is racing towards them. >> i went to sleep last night about midnight and woke up to the roar of this fire coming through about 3:00 a.m. i got most of the stuff packed. >> reporter: the wildfire has scorched over 400 square miles for now, killing one firefighter, nearly 1,000 structures destroyed. the wall of fire threatening new residential areas including mansions belonging to stars. but it's not just homes devoured by flames. in other parts of california, recently devastated by wild

fires, they're also counting agricultural losses like this avacado orchards near san diego. the fires destroyed the entire crop. more than 8,000 firefighters from a dozen states are working to contain the blaze. brian clark, abc news, new york. >> the generity and support continues to flow in a montgomery county family that lost two sonness a devastating fire last week. members of the soccer club set up a gift wrapping station at philadelphia premium outlets yesterday to help raise money for the family. players from the team say they want to do whatever they can to help the family, even if it means putting their own dreams aside. >> initially we had it set up for the girls fund raising for them to go to disney and all of them unanimously voted to donate the proceeds to the family.

ryan who is a sheriff's deputy in montgomery county also coaches for providence. one of the boys who died was also a member of the team. >> philadelphia police are investigating a murder in the city's wissinoming section. they found a man in his 30s shot in the chest and arm. he was taken to temple university hospital where he was pronounced dead. no arrests have been made. >> the time now 6:35 and republican leaders in congress expect to get their tax plan approved by both houses this week and send it to president trump before christmas for his signature. the president said yesterday that the plan is a good deal for the middle class and will also lead to explosive economic growth. the bill gave the richest americans big tax cuts while middle class americans get a smaller cut. the plan is not expected to get any votes from democrats in either the house or senate. the special council's office has obtained private emails sent and received by trump officials

after the election and before trump took office. robert mueller's investigation into russian contacts with trump has gained the emails through the general services administration which stored the material. the documents were given to mueller's team in septd in response to a request from the fbi. >> australian police have arrested a man who they say is an illegal agent for north korea. they say the 59-year-old sidney resident was trying to broker deals to broker components for ballistic missiles. investigators say the naturalized citizen was in violation of united nations and australian economic sanctions. if convicted the suspect faces up to 10 years in prison. federal officials are denying that the trump administration has banned certain words from being used at the centers for disease control and the words include fetus, diversity, transgender and science-based. the washington post reported that policy told

had to be rescued from an icy situation in maryland. firefighters say the dog was stranded for hours on iced over concrete. by the time rescuers got to him he was covered in ice and shaking. >> i had him basically resting on my knee and coming up to the ladder taking a rung and

steppi up. >> the firefighters took him back to the station where they made him a bed and gave him some food. the dog did not have a color. they hope to find the dog's owner but if they can't they would consider adopting him as the company mascot. they've already given him a nickname, river. >> i bet you river next makes thaagain. we'll start you out with a beautiful shot of cape may. remember yesterday it was covered in snow and all that snow melted because temperatures popped up into the mid 40s there. today pretty much the same thing. the high in cape may around 44 to 46 degrees this afternoon. right now in philadelphia we're showing 33 degrees, which is a lot better than the 21 than we ha yesterday at this time. still rather chilly. 25 degrees is your dew point, winds are out of the east northeast at 5 miles per hour and the pressure reading is rising from 30.25 inches. most locations are anywhere from

10-13 degrees warmer than the same time yesterday. a lot has to do with the cloud cover sneaking in overhead. it acts like an atmospheric plan ket and it keeps the temperatures warmer and they certainly are. millville 26 and dover cheking in at 29. here's a look at satellite 6 along with action radar. here comes the cloud deck quickly approaches from the southwest today for the most part is a cloudy day maybe we start out with a little bit of sunshine perhaps for an hour or two but otherwise it's a mainly cloudy afternoon. overnight tonight things could get interesting for parts of the area thanks to this system right here coming out of the missouri valley. you can see some rain through memphis pushing northward into st. louis eventually into cincinnati. it's going to run into this doemg of high pressure here where it is very dry a lot is going to get eaten up. but some of it will survive the journey. with the colder temperatures moving in tonight, some of it

could be in the form of frozen precipitation. today is dry, the evening for the most part is dry. then we get into the midnight hour and that's when a couple of showers are possible for the city of philadelphia, points south and east, north and west, especially north of the pennsylvania turnpike. by 4:00 a.m. it's still precipitating here north and west. as we get into the morning commute from 7:00 to 9:00 all of that is long gone all that is long gone and by afternoon it's really nice with temperatures up into the mid to upper 40s and it turns really mild by the time we get into tuesday. most of next week is going to a lot better than we saw last week. the jet stream will lift to the north. all that cold air retreats back into canada and it will turn mild. for today mostly cloudy and chilly, 41 degrees is today's high. winds are light out of the north at 5-10 mourpts. they're going to become variable

overnight with a spotty shower in the city north and east. and speaking of areas north and west, this is what we're looking at right now. temperatures will be at freezing, 32 or just slightly below that mark and that will be good enough to freeze everything over again. so a mix is possible for some areas and that could create icy patches out there or slick spots. be careful first thing tomorrow morning. one more fairly chilly day and then look what happens here. it turns really mild. 47 degrees for monday. clouds and sun. breezy and mild for tuesday. it's going to feel like spring with a high of 56. 45 for wednesday, a cold front pushes through. thursday's colder with a high of 42 and with the wind it will feel like the 30s but then we start warming up again friday and saturday, 52 and 55 degrees and i have to tell you guys right now, christmas day looks really, really interesting on the modeling. there is a storm coming right up the east coast. some of the models have it rain.

of sun. fast forward into christmas day, everybody anxiously awaiting next weekend here and we are watching a couple of systems. there's two scenarios that keep popping up on the forecast modeling. first of all the polar vortex will drop down into the heartland of the nation. the big question at this point is will that spill into the plains or will it press east into the mid atlantic and the north east part of the united states. right now scenario number one suggests all the cold goes out into the plains and temperatures are fairly mild. but the second scenario shows that arctic air pressing down to the south in the mid atlantic and the north eastern part of the united states turn cold right on christmas eve, christmas day right through new year's eve and new year's day. an area of low pressure is going to develop here. so if that boundary line is this like, it's mild, everything would be rain. but if that kwoeld air really starts to press and the boundary sets up right here, all of a sudden the cold air takes over and it could possibly be snow.
