new high speed route this morning. >> you may remember philadelphia was the scene of a major amtrak crash two years ago, in may of 2015, 8 people were killed and 200 injured after amtrak train 188 derailed in port richmond. it was traveling 106 miles per hour in a 50-mile an hour speed zone. investigators determinedded that the engineer was -- determined that the engineer was distracted by an incident with a nearby train. the criminal charges were dismissed in december. you can see see more on the derailment at 6abc.com. turning to accuweather, we have a mild change, we're expecting temperatures in the mid 50s, it's not so bad out there today, either as we look at the ben franklin bridge. it's a big change when we ended

the workweek on friday when snow brought the evening commute to are a grinding halt. let's go over to david murphy. >> reporter: sarah it's nice to talk about a positive change in the forecast. we have clouds digging down out of the northwest it will be a clouds and sun mix the rest of the way. 45 degrees currently in philadelphia. 46 in trenton. 40 in in allentown. beginning to get the number up there a little bit. 44 in reading, 49 in wilmington, 50 in millville. 44 in cape may. as we go through the next several hours we'll wind up with high temperatures that are better than what we had over the weekend and better than last weak. 47 degrees by 2:00. 48 is the high at 3:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m., 43 taking until 10:00 p.m. tonight to get into the upper 30s and not going too far below that in the overnight hours. when you look back at last week, this is a nice change. wednesday the high was

31 degrees and we had the 1.4 inches of snow falling in the morning commute. thursday a cold high of 37 and friday back down to 29 degrees with 2.2 inches of afternoon snow that snarled the evening commute. as we take a look at what's been going on since then. over the weekend, a little ridge has built. the cooler air has been shoved back up in the north and locked in place. we have highs in the 40s and today we expect the upper 40s and tomorrow the mid 50s, another slight cool down with the cool air coming back in as we head toward the arrival of winter solstice on thursday. rick we'll take a look at the holiday weekend it's beginning to come into focus, i'll have that on accuweather. >> all right, david. on the eagles front, it wasn't easy or pretty, but a win is a win. the birds rallied from a 14 point deficit to beat the gients. giants. after fans worried about nick

tom wolf is calling for the resignation of state senator daylin leach amid accusations of misconduct. the report quotes anonymous former staff members who accused leach of behavior ranging from highly sexualized jokes to inappropriate touching. wolf cold the senator a leader on important policy issues, but his conduct cannot be excused. leach blames the accusations on an unnamed political opponent and has never touched women. thousands are stranded because of the massive power failure at the airport in atlanta due to a blackout caused by an underground fire. we go to atlanta at that with more. -- atlanta with more. >> lights flickered once.

up to 50 in millville and dover, 44 on the beach in cape may where we saw sky6 live hd. there are clouds digging in from the north and west. we have sunshine in the southern half of the region. cloudier the farther north you go, overall we'll see a clouds and sun mix in the afternoon. it's not a bad day, milder over the weekend and better last week. sun and clouds, milder in allentown and the rest of the lehigh valley. 45 degrees there. down the shore, sun and clouds. in philadelphia we'll go for a high of 48 degrees. looks like we're on track to see that. sun and clouds a bit milder than it was over the weekend and winds staying light, as i mentioned all day long. partly cloudy and chilly tonight, dipping to 38 degrees, but really not all that cold overall some of the outlying suburbs get down into the mid 30s, and again, winds overnight tonight, very light.

of course last week we had the dip in the jet stream ushering in the cold air setting the table for light snows poorly timed for a couple of commutes. over the weekend we saw the jet stream push off to the north now it is farther to the north and west that's allowing the milder air in today. tomorrow we expect to be even milder. tomorrow morning in the 30s, chilly to start out, but getting into the 50s in the afternoon. i expect to get up into the mid 50s by 3:00 p.m. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, a bit on the milder side high of 48. you need a coat, overall it doesn't look bad. a mix of clouds and sun. tuesday, breezy and beautiful. high of 56 degrees even some of the cooler areas we're going a lot of cooler than that, or milder than today, i should say with temperatures in the low 50s. wednesday, partly sunny, there will be a front coming through tuesday night into wednesday. it will be dry, no precipitation

with the front. we're looking at the numbers dipping 45 is the cooler high. thursday, it's the winter solstice, winter officially arrives at 11:28 a.m. in the afternoon appropriately enough it will be the cooler high of the week, 42 degrees, lots of sunshine. on friday, that's when another warm front lifts through the region be we'll have more clouds building, 352 is the high. we'll have a chance of afternoon and eveng rain arriving. the best chance late in the day or evening, it will be light rain and drizzle. saturday, 61 degrees with a cold front coming at us, and more sprinkles and showers during the day. christmas eve, santa might have to whip out the rain gear as he and the sleigh and the reindeer pull into town sunday night. it's cooler and there's the chance of rain arriving in the afternoon and evening. right now on the bubble on how to call christmas day. there's a decent chance it's

the suspect. eagles coach doug peterson talked about a big win over the giants. it was a giant let down by the defense, but a win nonetheless. a massive rescue effort is underway in washington state. an amtrak train jumped the track and landed on a busy interstate. it happened south of seattle. one train car landed on the interstate and one dangling off the track. several cars were truck by the train according to law enforcement officials. at the scene we are hearing there could be multiple fatalities and injuries. the track was upgraded for commuter service. amtrak real time tracking had the cascade train traveling at 80 miles per hour. it's too soon to say if speed played a role in the crash. speed was in the
