former vp candidate's home. and severe winds cause this massive stage collapse killing a deejay toppling this structure. debring crashed to the ground with thousands of concertgoers watching in horror. and good morning, america. we want to get right to that breaking news about that deadly train derailment in washington state. look at that scene yesterday. height of rush hour. trainsing over one of the busiest interstates in the northwest and now we know that traveling at 80 an hour in a 30-mile-per-hour zone. >> yeah it was the inaugural run on that particular track. you've seen the devastation from the exterior. we want to take you inside some of those cabins. these are the pictures from one of the survivors. it is incredible. pictures incredible. crazy to think some survived this after looki those. >> so fortunate, so lucky. here's what we know at this hour. at least three people were

killed. more than 90 injured. 13 cars jumped the tracks first run. and it was the new route for the train and we'll go to abc's clayton sandell on the scene in dupont washington who has more. good morning clayton. >> reporter: good morning, michael. you can see behind me here this is still a very active scene. we want to show you, you can see there is a big crane that's beginning to remove train cars from the overpass at this hour. a major interstate below still shut down as investigators try and figure out this train go off the tracks. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: it was supposed to be a triumphant day but in an instant amtrak 501's inaugural run on a faster track turned into tragedy. >> a lot of melting and screeching and a lot of just being turned aroueporter: this morning investigators are on the scene trying to determine what the passenger train to hurdle off an overpass. sdmrt train was going at0 -- about 80 miles per hour. >> reporter: in a 30-mile-per-hour zone right? >> that's right. >> reporter: railcars crashing

into vehicles on the interstate below. officials say so far three people from the train were killed. over 100 injured. it was wet, we had downed power line we als downed ery and there's no access t this scene except from climbing up and down this hill trying to get to those victims. >> reporter: amtrak cascades train 501 after crew on board. 7:34 a locomotive and 12 cars careening off both sides of the overpass. >> amtrak 501, emergency, emergency, we are on the ground. >> is there everybody okay? >> i'm sti figuring that out. we got carsrywhere and down onto the highway. >> reporter: the impact caused passengers to fly out of their seats. >> people were flying, you know you're like oh, my god. this is real and start to see the roof kind of peelingit's just like is this ever going to stop? >> it was almostryer shook completely tohe other side of the taken and then back. >> reporter: when dan and across accide scout sprang into >> there was injured people walking all over the placeshock and i was like dude needs to just be

a leader sort of organize onerains had tipped upside down and kind of spilled the passengers out then the train came down on top of them. that's where i was like, whoa this is gnarly and those victims beat up and when they were pinned under the train i grabbed the dude's hand and was like rubbing back and i'm so impressed by you. you're a champion and just talking to him. >> reporter: now, one safety syst might have maence is called positive trol orptc, you can think of autopilot. if the train is going too fast ptc automatically slows you down but officials say even though ptc was installed on these tracks, it had not yet been activated. george. there. clayton, thanks very much. want to bring in chris carnes from the pierce county transit advisory board on that train yesterday and, chris thanks for joining us. you knew it was going fast. you were tweeting about it. >> yes, we were passing traffic as we were going along the highway. >> and you even said you thought you were going around 7 miles an

hour. did you think it was too fast? >> i -- well wead never been -- the no passenger traffic -- travel on this route before sodidn't really have any experience about it. >> so when was the firstt you knew something was wrong? >> so everything seemed to be going fine up until the point where there's this turn where you have to go on an e for ait second we a little -- we felt like we were going into a turn but then we heard -- felt some jittering and the next thing we knew we were flying off the railsn down an embankment. >> there was no slowing down as you head into that curve? >> it -- i don't recall any. >> so you say you went down into an embank many. what kind of fall was that for you? >> for me it was we were just sort of catapulted into the seats in front of us. >> and you look okay right now. you had no injuries.

what about everybody else in the car? >> most -- most of the passengers in our car had only minor injuries. there was one person who in the car in front of us they were catapulted to the front of the car and they were pretty badly injured. they were unconscious but still breathing. >> so you're tilted on this embank many. how did you get out? >> so we -- at first we tried the emergency door but that wouldn't budge because the train car had been crumpled and what we had to do was we pulled out the strap -he string around the emergency window and we kicked that out. >> were people panicked screaming, crying calm? >> no there were -- there were people screaming behind us in behind but there was no way we could access them. >> and what could you see of the cars i they were ahead of thaw went over the overpass? could you see that at all?

>> yeah so the cars that -- we were on the other side so couldn't see the cars that went over the overpass. but what i could see from the window was we had disconnected from the other -- the back portion of the train and i could see that someone had been catapulted from the train onto the ground. >> just ane're glad you're okay chris, thanks for sharing your story this morning. >> thank you. >> paula. >> we want to move to washington. it is decision day on capitol hill for the republicans. $1.5 trillion tax bill. president trump is on the cusp of getting his first major legislative victory and mary bruce is on capitol hill for us with the very latest. good morning to you, mary. >> reporter: good morning, paula. well, the final votes are just hours away. republicans poised for that first major victory, but will it be a win for the american people? republicans and the president insist this bill is aimed at the middle class, but a new analysis shows the long-term benefits will actually go to the rich.

after the first decade the report finds the wealthiest americans would receive a tax cut while 70% of middle income americans would see their taxes go up and the president and his family could stand to benefit personally from tax cuts for the wealthy down from more than 39% to 37% and a provision of this bill aimed at benefiting certain owners of businesses like commercial real estate firms. >> okay so mary we've been hearing the republicans have the vote even without senator john mccain who is recovering from cancer treatment. how confident should he be? >> reporter: there have been protesters trying to convince republicans not to d to no avail. right now have the votes in the senate right now. there's not single republican no vote. there are a handful of moderate republicans in the house who oppose this but that is not enough to block this bill. this tax bill appears to be headed for the president's desk paula. >> all right, mary bruce reporting from capitol hill. thank you very much. george. also breaking this morning the white house calling on north

korea formally blaming kim jong-un for that crippling ransomware attack that affected hundreds of thousands of computers around the world and pierre thomas is in washington with the latest. good morning pierre. >> reporter: good morning rpg. the u.s. is blaming them which paralyzed hundreds of thousands of computers in companies and homes worldwide. in an op-ed release, thomas bossert write, the attack was widespread and cost billions. north korea is directly responsible. it's not the first im george you remember in 2014 the u.s. accused north korea of hacking sony pictures for an un unflattering movie about their dictator. bossert is calling on the international community to improve improve cybersecurity and could see the u.s. look for more sanctions. it is likely to add to the ongoing tension. >> it certainly will. let's talk about earth more with cecilia vega and the editor in chief of "the daily beast."

john avlon. let's pick up where pierre left off, the white house calling for new sanctions directly blaming north korea. quite a contrast from the way the president deals with the russian meddling. >> it's stark. the administration is being tough and but in yesterday's strategic documentteps the issue of russia and his cabinet is hawkish but the president remains fundamentally uncomfortable so the contrast is striking. >> cecilia, no question this is the biggest legislative victory yet for the president. good way for him to end the year. >> reporter: yeah certainly, poised for a big celebration when it happens and tweeting about it this mornin he just put this out. he says the bill's impact to t economy is totally understood and appreciated. quote, biggest tax cuts and reform ever passed. enjoy and create many beautiful jobs. spoken like president trump there. but fact checkers agree this isually the biggest tax cut ever passed. he is poised for a big celebration but this is dangerous political territory. there are a lot of polls out

there that show that a number of americans, more than half disagree with this plan george and two-thirds say it will benefit the rich over the middle class. >> yeah let's bring that to john avlon. this is a tax cut. >> right. >> yet it's in some ways more un unpopular than tax increases have been. will it matter a year from now. >> that's unusual. everyone loves a tax cut. tax hikes are hard to get through. the math is upside down. this has been sold as a middle class tax bill and simplification. it is a big political win for republicans and the president but doesn't deliver on those two promises? that's what democrats are hoping for in november in the midterm elections and the russia investigation continues to hang over the president. the white house hoping this week that some of that cloud may be lifted. they've scheduled this meeting between the white house lawyers and special counsel robert mueller's team. >> reporter: yeah and this is a pretty standard meeting from what we understand. the lawyers want to get a sense of where it stands and likely want to know whether president trump himself is under investigation. they've had to -- lawyers have

had to change what they are telling the president and told him it would be done by thanksgiving initially and then christmas and now pushed it back and wrapped early into next year. we know it's expected to go well into 2018. >> is braced for that cecilia? >> that's the question. he has long said this is a witch-hunt. we hear him repeatedly say that they've done nothing wrong here so that certainly is the standard line but, look this is a cloud hanging over this white house. there is absolutely no doubt about that. they cannot shake this and want to focus on tax reform and the agenda going forward but questions are still hitting them hard. >> the white house hoping for a letter of exoneration from the special counsel. that's unlikely to come any time soon and the big question does the special counsel want to talk to the president? >> that is going to be one of the big moments. that's not how it works. you don't get an assurance of a letter of exoneration to allow everything to go forward. the investigation will go forward. the question is whether they'll interview the question is key but this thing is vast and

fast-moving. if the white house needs to calm the president down by promises he's off the hook they will be sorely disappointed. coal in that stocking for christmas. >> thanks very much. we want to move to breaking news overseas. police in the uk have foiled a christmas terror attack making arrests this morning. our senior foreign correspondent ian pannell has the latest from london. ian, good morning. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, paula. well, what we're hearing is early this morning police in northern england searched a number of properties in two town, fourd between 22 and 41 arrested on suspicion of plotting a terror attack. police spokesperson telling abc news it was planned on a venue many connected with christmas celebrations and was foiled at an advanced stage. no ideas on the target or where but know the search is going on in the area coming on the one-year anniversary on the attack on the berlin christmas markets that left 12 dead and somber reminder that the threat of more attacks seems undie

waiting to be claimed. this is the remnants of that massive power outage that canceled 1500 flights over the past couple of days and also stranded thousands of passengers in the terminals but good thus this morning, the airport is up and running at 100% and so far we've only seen a handful of cancellations and delays as a result of that power outage and this as people try to get to their final destinations and hearing some may not be able to fly out on thursday and when you look around at this suddenly i'm thinking of poke da travel bag isn't a bad idea to find it. >> you always want it to be not so subtle. that is coming your way. thanks for your reporting. we switch gears to a celebration of sorts of one of the greatest basketball players of all time kobe bryant. he was so great, in fact he two jerseys, not one but two retired retiredlyretired

have been doing that hard for george washington to do that. we begin with new trouble for the palin family. her son track arrested and accused of beating up his father during an argument and sarah palin frantically calling the police and abc's linsey davis is here with the story and, linsey we're hearing a gun was involved. >> a gun, good morning to you, paula. some tense moments at the palin household. this family altercation caused todd to pull out a gun and aim it at his son track but track beat his father so severely he was bleeding with multiple cuts on his head and this morning sarah palin's oldest son is behind bars. police describe a chaotic scene at the family home of the former governor of alaska and 2008 vice presidential nominee sarah palin. >> you know they say the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull, lipstick. >> reporter: palin's 28-year-old track an army veteran arrested

in wasilla, alaska saturday night on assault and burglary charges. according to court documents obtained by abc news sarah palin called police just after 8:30 p.m. saying her son was freaking out and was on some type of medication. charging documents state track palin went to the house to confront his father todd to get his truck but his father told him not to come in. todd told police he went to the door with a pistol to protect his family. that's when according to the affidavit, track broke a window and went into the house, got his father on the ground and began hitting him on the head. this scene is a far cry from the portrait of the family depicted in the 2010 reality tv show "sarah palin's alaska." >> this summer we're setting aside time to spend with family and friends. >> reporter: this isn't track's first run-in with the law. in 2016 he was arrested for allegedly hitting the mother of his child. those charges later dismissed. at the time sarah palin suggested her son suffered from ptsd after serving in iraq. a stress disorder the u.s.

department of veterans affairs says affected between 11% and 20% of iraq war veterans. >> i can certainly relate with other families who kind of feel these ramifications of some ptsd and some of the woundedness our soldiers do return with. >> reporter: in september of 2014 several family members were allegedly part of a brawl at an anchorage house party after he allegedly attacked another guest who dated his sister willow. no charges filed. >> i heard sarah palin scream out, you know who we are, don't you? it was like we were just on a jerry springer episode. >> reporter: track remains in custody for this latest incident, a judge set bail at $5,000. the case will ultimately go to the grand jury. we reached out to the palins for comment but did not hear back. >> sounds like he just snapped. thanks. the mysterious death of a billionaire couple found hanging

inside their mansion they're calling the death of barry sherman and his wife honey suspicious saying they were both strangled. >> friends and family are in shock. the couple the shermans were philanthropists, their company employs thousands making generic drugs. now police want to know who would want them dead. barry and honey sherman were one of the world's wealthiest couples worth $3.2 billion thanks to their pharmaceutical company. >> we started apotex 14 years ago. >> reporter: known for giving money to charitable caughts. >> we wanted to make sure that future generations would have a place they could call home. >> reporter: but this morning a community in shock. after a real estate agent preparing for an open house reportedly found the pair hanging from a railing near this indoor pool. inside their more than $5 million toronto home.

the house had recently gone on the market. police say the cause of death was ligature neck compression. the homicide unit has now taken the lead in the investigation. despite some initial questions about a possible murder/suicide. those who knew them best say no way. >> they were great people and have given to the community and done things for people. made people's lives better. >> reporter: according to friends of the couple they were both eagerly awaiting a trip to florida. honey sherman had recently sent an e-mail saying i am coming south monday december 18th to friday january 12th. several friends say they received an invitation to a party the couple were planning at their home in palm beach. police say there was no sign of forced entry. >> police will draw a circle around both of them. they're going to look at their personal lives and professional lives and their social lives. they're going to look at all of that. >> reporter: the shermans were well connected in canadian politics. prime minister justin trudeau tweeting his condolences to everyone touched by their vision

asked what does it mean to be a man. you could tell that you know they want to be able to express themself but because of societal expectations they're not allowed to and can't express their emotions. >> they expressed it well there. very well spoken. >> i want to bring in stephanie dowd. dr. dowd. you were in the piece and we talk all about not having just -- these boys 12 to 16 so starting to have relationships, it's not just about having the sex talk you want to broaden it out, what it means to be a strong relationship. how do you do that? >> the thing to remember is that teens really love to talk about love. so when you're a parent you want to approach your teens with a compassionate curiosity. you want to ask them questions, find out what they think about relationships. ask them questions about what dating is like at your school. how do you know if two people are interested in each other. so get them talking. and then the other thing you want to do is you want to help them distinguish between a healthy, romantic relationship

hour route one southbound 4 miles an hour. here's what it looks like when you add a hundred gallons of diesel fuel spilled on the road and an accident involving a tandem tractor-trailer a dump truck and three other vehicles. it's a full-fledged mess on the turnpike westbound shut down past bensalem. you have to take route one to street road to 611 to get around it. it's not our only highway shut down. chopper6 has been busy today. also over 295 right now more breaking news. that jackknifed tractor-trailer completely shutting down 295 northbound past florence-columbus. i was talking to someone on facebook saying even 130 is jammed trying to get around it. you could stick to the turnpike instead matt. it basically runs parallel. i mean you have to stay on the turnpike a little longer but it's moving just fine. >> indeed. thank you, karen. it is going to be warm today. let's go to meteorologist david murphy. >> oh, canada geese not being fooled though. a bunch heading south over the terrace. let's start with storm tracker. a couple sprinkles around allentown heading east falling
