evacuation. everyone piling back into the airport and, amy, the worst thing you can at the airport you have to be rescreened. >> oh gosh. millions more of course not just hitting the airways but roadways driving for the holiday. this is a live look at our traffic cam in new york city. aaa says more than 97 million people are hitting the road over the next week. >> you'll be doing that driving and flying. >> driving today flying this weekend. >> 2.7 million expected to fly and david kerley is at airport outside washington, d.c. starting us off on the tarmac. it looks like they're p you to work this morning. >> reporter: actually, some of the cargo is coming off this plane just came in from sao paulo. in dallas this was a problem in the terminal. completely evacuated and folks going back n hour and a half delay in love field. southwest, big airport and could ripple through the rest of the season on these very busy days. a look at flight aware that shows you what the situation is

in the air right now. doesn't look that busy because it's just gettinggoing. look at yesterday to give you an example. yesterday and today the two busy days of folks getting where they want to for the holidays. now, so far cancellations not a problem. the weather still a threat but it hasn't been an issue. now, here for united at dulles airport, today is their busiest day here not onlyargo but aircraft coming in and between today and new year's they will have nearly 5 million people they will transport through these jetways onto the aircraft getting home for the holiday. so far, tom, things are working all right. >> that sounds great and we will watch that weather. you said yesterday and today are some of the busiest days. what about after christmas, all those travelers returning home? >> reporter: well here's the problem. as we spread this out over the last couple of days yesterday and today folks getting to where they want to be for christmas but then as i get out of the way because they're bringing in another cargo deal here tuesday

be messy and rain saturday night but if you have a flight yet washington, d.c. to new york and boston, you could see rain and then snow. hey, you want a white christmas? there's a shot of it for some folks. i'll tell you about it coming up. >> very exciting. we move on to washington right now. overnight congress avoiding government shutdown for the moment but as the president ago this morning, the u.s. is facing backlash over his decision to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. the u.n. voting to condemn that move despite ambassador nikki haley's threat. our congressional correspondent mary bruce has all the latest from the white house. good morning, mary. >> reporter: good morning, amy. well in a collective rebuke the united nations voted overwhelmingly to condemn the president's decision to recognize jerusalem as the capital of israel. it came even after the president's u.n. ambassador nikki haley, issued a direct threat suggesting that the u.s. would think twice about funding the u.n. if it went through with this, adding that the u.s. will be quote, taking name but the

u.n. did it anyway and afterwards the former cia director john brennan called out the president directly tweeting donald trump expects blind loyalty from everyone qualities usually found in narcissistic vengeful autocrats. >> all right, well we know the president is planning celebrate the holidays heading south? >> reporter: the president will shortly head to palm beach where he will spend the holiday with his family at mar-a-lago. could be one of the longest stretches he is away from washington not on official business but, of course the president is always president, and he is expected to be attended to official business while down there and i'm guessing you could probably expect a couple tweets as well. >> probably on tap.ry thanks. tom. quite a year in washington let's bring in matthew dowd for a year-end review of the presidency breaking down what he promised and if he's delivered. good morning to you. let's start with the president's tax cut plan a clear victory for the president, also getting

rid of the obamacare mandate which penalized people for not getting health insurance but a battle he hasn't won to fully obamacare. >> i legislative victory on the tax cut said and you're right to say on the obamacare side it's not a clear victory but there is a huge difference between a legislative and political victory so put a lot of yards on the field and has a lot of first downs but for political purposes he hasn't accomplished that much. >> his signature issue on the campaign trail was the promise a wall and have mexico pay for it. that's still a promise he hasn't fully delivered on. >> i think it'll be one very difficult to deliver on. all the compromises he has to do with congress related to the immigration issues and this one is tied up in it. one, with those compromises and, two, the fact that the budget now, he's got a 1.5,

$1.1 trillion deficit that will come from the tax cuts and building that wall will cost billions and having covered the campaign, i think it will difficult for him to do in an election year that's already problematic. >> yeah he's going to have to find that funding. one of the next big challengepresident. the midterm elections and new reports about a heated staff and corey lewandowski who got into it with bill stepien. >> i think he's worried and he should be worried. not a real staff problem but fundamental problem. all presidents in their first midterms with very few exceptions have huge problems with their party. this president has the lowest approval rating and you know from the data lowest approval rating a president has ended the first year at going into christmas than any president has ever had. that and the fact that his party is disliked much more than the

the motorists say the shots have been coming from a dark-colored pickup with oversized tires. >> a common thread in all the reports is t victims say they heard bangs as another vehicle passed them going the opposite direction than the >> reporter: concern from police is not only a motorist might be shot but it might cause that vehicle to lose control. police say they have very little to go on right now. they're not even certain that that dark-colored pickup truck is the vehicle they're looking for. much less the identity of the person or people inside of it. amy. >> wow, so little to go on. so frightening. thank you very much. in california an update for the millions affected by wildfires out there. all significant evacuation orders have now been lifted and the worst appears to be over for the thomas fire which has become the second largest wildfire in state history burning more than 400 square miles and forcing

baby and passing the infant off as her own. they say erika alvarez kidnapped the baby hoping to pass it off as her own child after murdering her mother. they tracked her to this apartment complex. alvarez was standing outside with her boyfriend holding the infant in her arms and alvarez is believed to have suffered a recent miscarriage and may have been trying to hide her loss from her boyfriend and family. >> it suggests she was friend with miranda's brother. >> reporter: this morning alvarez is in police custody charged with murdering shamali's mom who was a family friend and kidnapping the 6-week-old child. >> she stated the front door was open and the complainant was already lying dead on the floor and took her daughter shamali. >> justice. i hope she gets life in prison.
