her in the car when the gunman opened fire. the little girl was hit by a stray bullet. the gunman fled leaving behind a path of stray shell casings. police are trying to sort auto the details and find out why the man opened fire. we're getting new information about the nearly nine-hour standoff in bethlehem. police identified the suspect as 36-year-old justin kepart. he lived in the home on the 1600 block of dennis street in bethlehem township where this unfolded. that's the sound of gunfire there. police are releasing a few details of what happened. what we do know around 1:30 p.m. yesterday, police respond to a report of a woman lying bloody and unresponsive in the yard.

when they arrived, authorities say he opened fire on the officers. police say he called his father saying that he killed his mother and shot at cops. as you can imagine this has left neighbors shaken. one resident who does not want to be identified shares a photo of what appears to be bullet holes in an armor police vehicle. this man was trying to visit his family not far from the scene. >> usually quiet, keep your doors unlocked, i do, i feel safe. it's crazy. >> nine hours after it began, police entered the home. police have not released the condition of the woman who was shot and found in the yard. an e-mail scandal hitting the atlantic city fixture, the miss america pageant took a major turn, after 49 miss america contestants called for change, the peanut ceo s out.

the pageant has suspended sam hascal. there were e-mails to and from hascal that mocked miss americas about their intellect and sex lives. atlantic city mayor said the miss america pageant is iconic to ac and says that the claims against the ceo are appalling. >> miss america organization needs to redefine itself. they have done it several times over the hundred years and they needed to it once again. dick clark productions says it has cut ties with the miss america organization in light of details. state lawmakers are calling on crda to pull a 4 million-dollar state subsidy that could hurt

looking outside, it's wet and warmer. we'll have several rounds of rain today, but by christmas some of you could see snow. let's go over to chris sowers. >> reporter: good morning, everyone, it's crazy the pattern we'll see over the next several hours, 6 some of you may be wearing shorts in south jersey and delaware, tomorrow well have windchills in the 20s. allentown, the lehigh valley wet weather, lancaster, we know gloucester and salem counties there's a little bit of rain being reported there. west of the city, upper bucks and montgomery counties quaker town green lane seeing rain. kutztown reporting rain. more rain indicated by the greens. the darker the shades of green, the heavier the rain is.

north of green lane there's more stuff south of reading. we'll see this on and off all day long. it will not be a complete wash. it will be damp. 48 by 10:00. lunchtime, 54. 2 to 4:00 p.m., 59. at this point in south jersey you're in the low 60s, damp highs around 69 for philadelphia. not going to deal with any kind of winter type of weather today. that will change. this system slides east over the next 12 to 24 hours. cold air rushes in. monday morning, christmas morning 1:30 a.m., it's snowing for most of the area at this point from the i-95 corridor north and west. some of that will accumulate chill focus on in just a moment. in the meantime, travel delays, philadelphia international we're seeing a half-hour delay. there's a 30 minute delay recorded in atlanta. some of these will get worse as the system passes on by. i'll show you this, i'll focus

driver his life. the driver lost control of the van strike ago car parked in the driveway, the van filmed and hit a tree ejecting the driver. the victim has not been identified. police shot and killed a gunman who fired at police in several locations in harrisburg. 51-year-old ahmad almassi shot a pennsylvania state trooper a short time later. investigators say he was armed with two handguns, authorities have not released a motive foray tack. the trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries. the philadelphia orchestra has severed ties with conductor charles dutuiot. four women accused of him sexual

eagles wide receiver, alshawn jeffrey is leading the caravan who went on a christmas shopping spree and reading to deliver joy to philadelphia families. he was met with roaring welcome as he entered the life center where parents and children were gathered for the annual holiday party. box after box was unloaded, filled with toys already sorted for the boys and girls who call this neighborhood home. >> this is going to ken. it's nice to have something like this, it gives you a little hope. >> reporter: the children were in awe of the kindness and they looked their toys. >> i got a pogo stick.

8:00 p.m. and temperatures crash in the 30s. correspondent tonight, mid 30s for everybody, increasing clouds during the day, the second feature moves in tomorrow night into monday morning, this is around the midnight hour, snowing north and west, raining south and east, this will accumulate as the hours progress along. 9:30 that's long gone. temperatures cold enough to support the snow sticking. for the lehigh valley you take all the forecast models you add them up, it's a good slushy inch for bethlehem and allentown and reading, as well. this is showing 1.9. we'll go a good slushy inch in the lehigh valley. for philadelphia we're not looking at much of anything. snow will mix in the tail end, but the ground temperatures will be too warm. this model is too bullish, i wouldn't pay attention to that. we're looking at flakes mixing with the rain early christmas morning. all this moisture is out of here by 5:00 a.m. breezy, 59 degrees, winds out of

endings. spca has low cost vet services, the law enforcement branch is an important part of that work. spca covers 23 counties. animal control appears to be consistent with a case of abuse they send them to us. the officers have seen horrible indicates of a abuse and amazing rescue stories. >> we had a case where we went in on the animal died on its way back to the shelter. >> cat grande smith is happy and healthy. we never know what the next day is going to bring us. >> reporter: officers saved thousand of lives and it's because of donations. >> it's a number of small donations that continue to support the work. >> reporter: lance is a super friendly pitbull mix pulled from the city's shelter. >> he has a great energy level he is a wonderful guy.

cool. >> reporter: this past summer the police department applied for detective policing grant offered by the attorney general's office. they were awarded ten thousand dollars. with the funding, the police department held two special events for students. this was the second. >> thank you. >> reporter: over the past months. officers from the gang resistance and education training programs went to classrooms to read the giving tree and offered copies to students of first, second and third grade. >> it's a great story and great connection that the police officers make with the boys and girls. >> it's showing the police officers are invested in their education. >> reporter: officers explain it's part of building relationships in the community they serve. >> we want the kids to know if there's a problem they see a police officers they can go to
