procrastinators grabbing those last gifts. santa leaves on his sleigh in the next few hours. >> a live look at the ben franklin parkway. santa's sleigh is ready, the kids are on their best behavior, the question is how much will mother nature behave this weekend? >> temperatures air lot cooler right now as we get ready to move into christmas, that cooler winter-type weather has finally pushed on in. yesterday at t time we were in the 40s and 50s. now we're seeing the 30s. millville down to 34, cape may 40 and the poconos a blustery 27 degrees this morning. satellite and radar, we may start out with a little bit of sunshine but you can see all this cloud cover starting to build out to the west. this will slide in during the day and this will help to limit those temperatures because of the lack of sun. we're only forecasting highs today in the mid 40s. yesterday we topped out at 61

degrees. today it's a combination of sun and clouds, probably more clouds than sun and it's cooler with a high of only 44. and then we fast forward into tonight there's a system we're watching right now just south of chicago and that could bring winter white to parts of the area first thing tomorrow morning. a winter weather advisory goes into effect for the lehigh valley, the poconos and berks county it's in effect through 7:00 this evening through 7:00 a.m. christmas morning. and it's this system here. it's not too terribly impressive but just enough of a punch to produce at least a coating to an inch of snow. when i come back we'll focus on the timing, who's going to see what out of this and we'll focus on a very cold week ahead in the accuweather 7-day forecast. >> it is christmas eve and stii 6hd is looking live at philadelphia international airport. the weather has improved but winter's punch making it tough to get around elsewhere.

state police closing a stretch of i-95 for an hour saturday morning after numerous reports of spin-outs and car crashes. meanwhile in missouri, heavy snow bands blinded drivers causing multiple accidents including this semi-truck. snow even covering parts of oklahoma. that snow system causing severe storms in tennessee. up to 4 inches of rain in parts of the volunteer state. in nashville, strong winds toppled the city's official christmas tree, the 30-foot norway spruce sprawled across the plaza with lights still o heavily damage it was cut up and hauled away. and in memphis, wind sheer threatening to delay package delivery. complicating efforts for some of the more than 120 million people who are expected to drive to

care regional medical center. the cause of the fire is under investigation. police have recovered a major clue in a deadly bucks county hit and run. the vehicle they say ran down a 52-year-old cyclist is now impounded. >> reporter: bristol borough police led them to this car in this garage. >> at this point we have obtained the search warrant for the vehicle itself and now in the process of taking into custody so we can pull physical therapy forensic investigations on it. >> reporter: police say the car is a silver mercedes, the same model they've been looking for since december 19th when 52-year-old kevin williams was struck and killed while riding his bike. two vehicles appeared to be racing along route 13 when it happened. this vehicle has damage that

needs to be thoroughly examined. >> we'll bring in some subject matter experts and it comes to looking at the aspects of the car and damage and also physical transfer evidence anything like that. >> reporter: no arrests have been made, but police say this is a critical discovery. >> this is just part of the process. hopefully we get a successful conclusion. >> reporter: police say the people who live in that home are cooperating fully and are not believed to be connected with the fatal hit and run. police also say that tips from the public so far have been extremely helpful. if you have any information, you're asked to contact police in bristol borough. >> a man has been injured while trying to break into a game stop store in gloucester county. around 2:30 this morning a private security guard noticed the man on roof of the store.

police are trying to determine if the suspect is connected to three other break-ins at the game stop over the past month. >> 6:07, a federal judge in seattle has partially lifted a trump administration ban on certain refugees. those who oppose the ban say it prevents people from mostly muslim countries from reuniting with family living legally in the united states. it only applies to refugees with a bona fide relationship with a person living in the u.s. the. meanwhile prurp continues to criticize the fbi on twitter this time saying how could the fbi deputy director, the man in charge along with james comey, including her 33,000 illegally deleted emails, be given money for investigation. he is referring to donations she

received from her senate campaign in virginia. but those donations came in before andrew mccabe became deputy director. charlie dense who is retiring discusses the state of the gop and his view of president trump. he supported the gop tax plan but opposed the president's push to reveal parts of the affordable care act. this week starts at 10:30. >> a family rocked by a fire is back in their home in time for christmas. the home went up in january. making matters worse the house was not insured and money was tight. the homeowner reached out to a former coworker for help. he led the charge to help the family renovate their home, collecting donations including money and material. tiffany said at times she had doubts they would ever be able to rebuild but is now grateful for the wonderful people who

remotely close to that for a long, long time. it could be weeks before we're in the 50s again. a wintry mix is possible tonight especially for areas north and west of the city. some of us could see a little winter white on the ground first thing in the morning. we have a wind advisory up for everybody christmas day. winds gusting 40-45 miles per hour and get ready for a very cold week again and that continues through new year's day and beyond. trenton 35, philadelphia 38. and millville checking in at 34 degrees. but you factor in the winds and it feels like 31 right now in allentown. feels like 28 degrees in reading, 33 in philadelphia, 30 in millville and think about wr yesterday where we were at this time. we were in the 40s and now we're talking about wind chills below freezing. as we look a little farther down the road here, this is the storm that we're watching.

actually it's kind of weak and unorganized i don't even want to call it a storm, this will be strong enough to produce a little bit of light snow for some of us around 8:00, 9:00 this evening and through the night and into about maybe about 4:00, 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. it's not a big deal, but it should be just enough to kind of cause some problems in parts of our area. future tracker 6 later today with all the cloeds increasing from the southwest, we don't expect temperatures to climb very far. 61 yesterday, maybe 44 or 45 today but that's about it. and we fast forward into this evening. by 8:00 you can see the light rains developing for the i-95 corridor points south and east. maybe a little bit of a wintry mix at the on set for places like chester and lancaster counties and southern portions of montgomery and bucks counties and that snow line will start to lift. a little bit milder air going to start getting mixed into this. it's still snowing in the lehigh valley just in time for midnight mass and by 6:00, 7:00 a.m. all of this is long gone and that's going to set up a coal christmas

day with highs in the 30s, wind chills in the teens and 20s. snowfall totals. coating, lancaster to the north there could be an inch or so. places like pottstown, quaker town, then you get into allentown, reading, bethlehem, the poconos, the poconos probably 1-2 inches. everybody south of there mainly just rain. philadelphia there could be snow flakes mixed in as this thing is winding down. but we're not looking for accumulation. christmas day it's all about the winds. gusts 40-45 miles per hour for the whole area and that will put wind chills in the teens and 20s. by 7:30 christmas morning it's only feeling like 21 in allentown, 25 in philadelphia, millville 27 and through the afternoon, same thing teens and 20s and into the evening hours still dealing with blustery wind by 7:00 christmas evening, 12

claire's decided to pull the product after a mother had the make-up tested. the lab tests found more of the cancerous causing substance. claire's says it will immediately investigate the concern. >> in health check this morning, california public health officials are warning people about cell phones. the state agency says people can reduce exposure to cell phone radiation by keeping their cell phones away from their bed at night and not keeping them in their pocket. technically the scientific community has not reached a consensus on the risks of cell phone use, but the state health department warns research already suggests long-term extensive use may affect health. welcome back.

windy christmas. >> a live look at the christmas tree. some of you will get snow before santa arrives. we have an updated forecast from accuweather. good morning it is the day before christmas. i'm nydia han, christie ileto is nr for gray. >> i can't believe it's christmas. this is the area right here that can possibly see an accumulation of snow tonight into the very early morning hours tomorrow. it's going to be north of this line, let's say upper bucks county, extreme northern portions of montgomery county, northern berks county and the lehigh valley and the poconos. everybody south of there may be you pick up in this area here, maybe you pick up a little coating but that will wash away as it flips back over to rain. riilt now we're seeing temperatures in the mid 30s. 33 in kutztown. warminister 33. it's 37 degrees right now a lot cooler in glassboro.

as we go wider here and take a look at the satellite and radar you can see all this cloud cover out in through here. this is going to prevent the temperatures from climbing today. we'll see high temperatures in the low to mid 40s. again a good 20 degrees cooler when we saw yesterday when the highs topped out in the low 6 0s. going hour by hour for you, we'll see a gradual increase in clouds, by 10:00 a.m. 40 degrees, 2:00, 44. 4:00, same number. sun and clouds, high temperatures. a good degree or two above the seasonal average of 43. as we go a little bit wider here, this is the system that we're watching. there's a very small area of low pressure that's developing like this and it is slowly drifting off to the east at about 20, 25 miles per hour make a turn to the north and it will provide us with winter white overnight tonight. not everyone is going to see that but some of us will. it's mainly the lehigh valley and upper bucks and upper

montgomery county here. snow to wintry mix developing this evening, there will be slippery traveling conditions developing so you do need to take it slow up there. slushy coating to an inch is possible in those areas. i'll be back in a few minutes more details in an icy cold 7-day forecast. >> here's more on that winter storm impacting more than a dozen states right before christmas. rain, snow and ice are making travel treacherous in some parts of the northeast. there were 30 crashes on one stretch of highway in massachusetts and part of the system caused major problems in tennessee. winds in nashville knocked down the city's official christmas tree. fedex is reporting the winds caused substantial disruption and delays but for the most part travelers have been able to get where they're going just taking a little longer. >> i'm trying to beat it so i don't think i planned well enough. >> my wife is kind of worried about it. i ended up taking off a day early. >> meanwhile shoppers in our

ocean county. an officer shot a person at around 8:30 last night. we're told the person was wounded. we're working to learn that person's condition. the prosecutor's office is investigating. this morning a driver is facing charges after he was rescued by firefighters following a crash. police say the driver of this jeep liberty lost control of his suv at church line and greenwood avenue in upper darby. the suv crashed into a drainage ditch. firefighters worked for about 20 minutes before freeing him. he was taken to the hospital with injuries but will be charged when he's released. >> also new this morning a driver is hospitalized following a one-vehicle crash in philadelphia's fair mount park. police say driver lost control of the vehicle around 10:00 last night. the vehicle hit a tree, the driver was taken to penn presbyterian with non-life threatening injuries. >> with more riders making the

one thing we now for certain. it is going to get really cold, right? >> really, really cold. hope you enjoyed the 60s yesterday. you're not going t see anything close to that for a long, long time. as we get you outside, we're looking at the philadelphia international airport not seeing any delays being reported this morning. we don't have any fog or low level clouds like we were dealing with yesterday at this time. 38 degrees in philadelphia with a dew point of 28. winds have shifted now out of the north northwest at 7 miles per hour and that's why the temperatures are a little cooler. your wind chill presently is 33. it's 35 in allentown, 27 in the poke noeks, 35 in trenton, cape may 39. this is a feature that we're watching. it's a small, fast-moving area of low pressure and what's preventing us in philadelphia from seeing snow is the fact that this is moving from west to east and it's not digging down to the south. if it was driving down to the south, the area of low pressure would develop down through here

and then come up and then the cold air would wrap in on the back side and we would have snow. but because it's kind of moving from west to east, by the time this low gets going, it's north of philadelphia. therefore the colder areas, the lehigh valley, the poconos, they'll see the snow this time around. we'll see just a little bit of cold rain here in philadelphia and the i-95 corridor. there's what it looks like on the radar. a little bit of light snow, chicago, st. louis, that swath of snow spreads like this from west to east across the midwest today. clouds increase this afternoon. by lunchtime we're up to 43, 44 and temperatures are pretty much holding steady right around 44, 45 degrees for your high. 8:00 this evening, light rain showers developing for the i-9d 5 corridor points south and east. that flips over to snow as you get into lehigh valley, poconos snowing by 10:00 this evening.

the freezing mark is 32, this model has allentown at 33. some of those roads could become slick. by 6:00, 7:00 tomorrow morning, all of this is long gone. it's up into new england where they're going to see a snowstorm for christmas day. for us the winds start howling on the back side. temperatures get no better than the upper 30s for highs on christmas day but with the wind it feels more like the teens and 20s all day long. snowfall total as we take a look at all the forecast models, this is for the lehigh valley. a slushy coating to an inch at best with this system. the philadelphia area, the model isn't putting out much of anything at all. perhaps a coating. i think this is more or less just a cold rain with a couple of snow flakes. this will be philadelphia for all areas south and east. this is not going to be that big of a deal unless you're in the lehigh valley and poconos and some of those roads could get a little slippery late tonight. wind chills tomorrow morning looking at teens and 20s for

when a fire broke out in the middle of the night. >> reporter: you're watching a homeowner battling a fire at 3:30 a.m. sunday just moments after waking up. he struggles, there's nothing more he can do and lives the fire behind calming for help. >> you don't know what to expect. >> reporter: mike hernandez walk up because of this. it has a motion detector hooked up to a camera and when the bright flames triggered it, an app on his phone woke him up. >> i opened my eyes and looked to my right and outside my bedroom window i saw what looked to be like flames. >> reporter: hernandez, his fiancee, brother all made it out of the house safely. >> we're going to move forward and we're thankful it wasn't worse. >> reporter: they have captured other close calls like these. just a couple of weeks ago a

life. >> reporter: she describes him as a challenge with a floral flare. >> he was a handful from the time he was born to the end. very energetic, loved flowers. he was big into flowers. >> reporter: cortez was closing up shop in the early morning hours of saturday april 1st. at 1:00 a.m. the 26-year-old had just finished helping a nearby store owner lower his gate when his mother says he was approached by two men. >> they probably tried to start robbing him. the cops told me he was probably getting the best of one of them and the other one came and shot him in the back of the head. >> reporter: cortez was pronounced dead at the scene. it may have started as a robbery but the suspects didn't get anything. >> they got nothing because everything, his wallet was still on him.
