her family who were too shaken to go on camera. it was 3:00 a.m. where the suspect struck here on the 1500 block of church road stealing a vehicle from a woman unloading christmas gifts the victim's mother says he held a gun to her head and slit her cell phone not pocket and stole her christmas gifts and insulin and the suspect struck again around 9:00 a.m. robbing someone in this deli at 52nd and irving and it was caught on surveillance video. the suspect in the red coat can be seen holding someone at gun point inside of the deli and then the suspect left in the stolen black chevy travel. police say that that vehicle was spotted by another officer nearby. it was spotted at 5200 hazel and then unoccupied. and then someone entered the vehicle and left the location. the police followed and tried to

stop the subject and then the car collided with another car. >> the plain clothes officers approached the driver of the suv the chevy. and gave him commands and the operator would not comply with the officer. the suspect referred to his waist band and the officer fired hitting the suspect in the chest. >> now, the suspect was taken to penn presbyterian in critical condition. and his name is not released but they plan to charge him with the carjacking and the robbery of the deli sometime today. as for the officer involved with the shooting a name is not released as is protocol that officer will be assigned to min straight of duty depending on investigation. channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. moving on to the accuweather forecast and the frosty temperatures gripping our area it's been cold all day and far from over. meteorologist adam joseph is outside with the latest from

accuweather. >> outside is the warmest day erience and more than a week. a brutal stretch is now arriving. as we look at numbers locally it is at freezing in philadelphia. 33 degrees the last hour. 37 in washington but just 18 in pittsburgh and 13 in binghamton and buffalo 9 degrees right now. and to the north and west you see all the cold air and these are the air temperatures, not windchills, around the hudson bay between 15 and 20 degrees below zero. and thunder bay now coming in at 9 below. and again, that doesn't include the windchill. there are clouds building near pittsburgh and a couple of flurries and for this evening it's dry and partly cloudy and back to the 20s at 7:00 and mid-20s between 9:00 and 11:00 with the low temperature in the city dropping back to 20 tomorrow morning.

the neighbor and office did not know that he was inside of that home with an ak-47 and ak 74 and semi automatic shotgun. he fire aid shot sending the officer and neighbor running for cover. >> at one point officer meehan not knowing where the shot came from, raised his head holding tis gun in his right hand and his left hand against the car to try to identify the location of the shooter at which time another shot was fired from the house going between the officer's head and his hand. >> the officer obviously had to protect himself for an hour until a police armored truck to save him and the neighbor and he struck the vehicle himself 26 shots taken and nine hours later police went inside and found him dead. he had taken his own life. his final call made to his father and in it he confessed to

killing his mother and i think i kill aid police officer. and fire tour through a home in atco camden county this afternoon. chopper 6 hd was overhead as firefighters when to work. they used ladders to reach the attic area to reach hot spots. new video from chopper 6 hd shows how bad the fire was yesterday in southern delaware two homes were flattened. and only two chimneys were left standing and two homes were left standing. the damage estimates are in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. the fire broke out at 7:00 last night. and thankfully nobody was injured and no word tonight though how it started but fire officials say that high winds certainly help to spread the flames. well the eagles win last night was ugly. and i mean ugly. but valuable nonetheless.

traffic report. matt pellman is live. >> how was the holiday? >> it was great. this may not be the best time for getting home especially here along 295, beg big delays. these are the northbound lanes here by 561 and just up ahead past 70 there say crash taking out one lane. big northbound delays behind the accident and southbound gaper delays as well. and reports on a crash on the southbound turnpike heading into exit 4 and the best bet here in south jersey is to maybe stay local on route 41 kings highway or route 130. coming into new jersey from pennsylvania a broken down truck on the ben franklin bridge on the westbound side and that is cleared out of the way. and on the big picture volume is not quite as bad as normal but still slow patches especially on the westerly and southerly routes. and sun glare out there this afternoon and it's wicked. southbound lanes of 95 back up

a messy start for the day for drivers and businesses in northeast philadelphia. a water main break. water main broke and flooded a busy intersection and were concerns that below freezing temperatures could make the repairs more difficult. bob brooks spoke to witnesses that were relieved the damage was not even worse. >> reporter: the safe to say things are a mess. a water main break opened the ground at a business plaza and spews water into businesses here and then the water started to freeze in the street causing a quick response with salt trucks. it happened on the 3100 block of willits road and this owner was inside of the islamic prayer

center. >> it was bad. the water was already inside of the billing. and the police officers were asking us to come out. come out everybody. evacuate the building. >> and he knows he is lucky his car did not send up down the hole in this icy water. >> a few feet back -- >> the car would be done. the water is freezing right now. it's too cold. >> a view from chopper 6 hd is giving us a better perspective of the water that came out. several streets in the nearby area was closed and the water department remains closed until the 8 inch main is fixed. >> we'll go under grown and then see the repairs we need to make. >> first crews need to get the water out to make the assessment and we are told that no neighbors nearby will experience a water loss. >> they are connected with a separate main and will not see

going get much colder let move on to adam joseph with a check of the accuweather forecast. >> the sun is setting with temperatures around freezing and the last time we see freezing in more than four weeks, and we had the warm and out there. >> you need the air quotes for that one. we continue to go through the evening hours and temperatures sliding back into the 20s and again the 20s is where we stay each and every afternoon going forward as we get into the evening hours below freezing 35k back to the 20s and at 7:00 20 at 8:00. and as we get toward 10:00 temperatures only in the mid-20s. as we look at sky 6 hd right now we see a pretty crystal clear sky. a little bit of light left on some of the top of the buildings there and that is about it. as we get in the middle of the week the windchill tracker here 7:00 in the morning. 15 degrees we stay there at 9:00 and even as we get into the

car crossed into the westbound lane yesterday afternoon and she slammed into another vehicle driven by bagly's daughter. firefighters made quick work of a house fire in the german town section of the city this morning. the action cam was on the 6500 block of win coat avenue where a smokey blaze started at 11:00 and nobody was injured a cause is under investigation. philadelphia police want to you help them track down an alleged robber. they grabbed a knife and demanded money from the wom a pcs store. the holdup was on december 19th four days later the suspect allegedly robbed another cell phone store, this one in the 300 block of east tioga. please call police if you can help identify the fbi is asking for help
