deadly hit and run. and the red lexus was found today with a broken windshield. and police believe that a man fled after killing a man in winfield section of philadelphia. rick and sara are off and the big story is are the discovery that could lead police to a hit and run driver who remains at large. jeanette reyes is live now at the intersection where the crash happened on city avenue. >> we have exclusive video this afternoon of the moments leading up to the crash. and you can see the striking vehicle just keeps going and as you mentioned. just hours ago philadelphia police are making a crucial discovery they have found the striking vehicle and they are hoping to find the driver soon. >> this surveillance camera video obtained by "action news" shows the heart stopping seconds leading up to the horrific accident that left a 50-year-old man dead. >> that is tragic, i didn't know

anything happened. this street does get a little dangerous. people drive real fast. >> the victim appears to just get off this bus at north 54th street and city avenue. and briefly stops before crossing the street and at the time there are no cars present and several cars drive in frame and one hits the pedestrian with so much force he is thrown several yards out of the camera's view and the camera keeps going. >> he has trauma to his head and what appears to be two broken legs. and paramedics pick him up and he is pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. >> after the cars continued to drive by it's unclear if the drivers could see the gravely injured man. but the striking car left a vital clue behind. accident investigation officers are investigating this fatal hit and run possibly involving a red lexus due to the fact that they

found a lexus emblem on the scene. >> a shattered windshield was found on a lexus hours ago along the 4600 block of north 19th street. authorities say there is blood on the outside and appears to be burned inside. >> and of course at this hour no arrests are made just yet but this is an active investigation, and there were quite a few witnesses here at the scene and police are hoping with their help as well as the evidence they have uncovered they can track down the driver in this hit and run, reporting live in winfield. jeanette reyes, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. one person is air-lifted to the hospital following a rescue in bucks county. it appears that a resident fell through a partially frozen pond on their property this morning. the oxville fire department pulled the victim out of the water and rushed them to the hospital. we are working to find out that person's condition.

that rescue unfolded as bone chilling temperatures gripped the region. accuweather says we may not get back above freezing until next week. crews start to prep the roads for anything we will get the next few days. del/dot trucks laid down brine in elsmere. here is the frigid forecast from meteorologist, david murphy. >> not a bad idea to get the brine going especially south of philadelphia. this is what is going on before dawn on stormtracker 6 live double scan. we have late showers in western pennsylvania and delaware and now mainly in south jersey and there say possibility this continues on and off through the afternoon. not putting down a lot of precipitation, but if you have brine you don't have to worry about it at all. and saturday is the next chance of more significant snow. the big chance or story for the

rest of us is the cold temperatures and how it feels. 25 in philadelphia and 22 in allentown and reading and 24 in lancaster and 24 in trenton and wilmington and about the same story. millville, new jersey, to the shore. of course the big story is the fact that there say breeze blowing around and you put that together with cold temperatures and this is what it feels like as you step outside. a 16 degree windchill in philadelphia and 14 in trenton. and if you venture outdoors in allentown are you looking at windchills around 12 and 13 as we see in reading and 16 in millville and 17 in cape may. it's on the cold side today and the windchills probably not climb ougt of the teens and temperatures stay in the 20s. this model has us at 27 and i'll say 29. and it feels like the teens and winds die down after dark and numbers drop by 2:00 a.m., 18.

strangers. his minivan hit a utility pole and overturned near east falls. thankfully a tow truck driver spotted the van and rushed towards the flames to help. >> my first reaction was to get him out of the car. i yelled to two other guys standing on the side of the highway and had them come over and we quickly pulled the gentlemen out of the car and pulled him to the side of the highway and 60 seconds later the car pretty much blew up. >> moments to spare. that driver was rushed to the hospital. and right now he is listed in critical condition. chopper 6 hd was back in delaware county giving us the view of the damage to a brick condo building. officials say an entire three story building is completely wiped out and 300 people were forced out to the cold when the flames broke out. fortunately, and this is the good news, there were no

injuries, "action news" reporter john rawlins has a live report from the scene at 12:30. and police have followed through with their threat. vowing to arrest any teenager or child causing problems at the mall and they did so last night. it shows video of crowds milling around at the food court and made five arrests after responding to a complaint about unattended juveniles. parents were warned about letting their kids roam free during the winter break. a veteran wounded in combat received an overdue honor. the purple heart was presented to justin radville. he suffered significant injuries in an explosion in baghdad and it happened when his patrol was carrying out a mission for iraqi freedom in 2003. and he served from 2002 to 2006. congratulati

four people are facing criminal charges for this attack on a new jersey teacher. this newly released video shows him assaulted outside of the high school this month. the teacher says he was walking to his car and spotted two girls fighting and tried to break it up. he was ambushed from behind. >> if he had landed that blow to my head i may have ended up with a brain bleed and you could be talking to my family now. >> they identified the primary attacker as a 19-year-old man with no connection to the school. an international flight carrying hundreds of passengers including celebrities wounded up exactly where it started after eight hours of flying. it took off from los angeles to tokyo but four hours into the 11

snow showers are popping through south jersey and parts of del wash. we have pictures of them brining the roads in delaware in case any of this pops up and a jet streak a ribbon of air in delaware. that is why it's popping up at noon. probably dies away o the next several hours. some of you don't see any of it and here comes out shot outside. and using the snow in spring mountain. on sky 6, still making it on the picture and customers are enjoying the runs and that is the case in the poconos too. not only today but over the next week and a half as it stays pretty cold here. 25 is your current temperature. winds north none west at just 9 miles per hour. and when you start at the colder temperature it's easier to get colder windchills. and it feels like 16 in philadelphia. and most areas expecting windchills in the teens. 22 in allentown and 22 in

reading and could wind up with windchills lower than the teens in these areas and 24 in trenton and 25 in millville. and winds are not all that strong 9 miles per hour from allentown to philadelphia through millville. and a couple of spots, a couple of miles per hour higher. and this is enough with the cold temperatures to give you this type of profile. not only now but up to 3:00. even if the warmest part of the day. it's only 10 degree windchill in allentown. still feeling cold and this evening the winds died down and it was cold and breezy enough to keep the windchills down. and this afternoon and into the evening, and could head out and lots of layers and extra gear and gloves an hats and cloud cover to the south of us, and cloudier to the south than to the north. some of us seeing a bit of sunshine and lehigh valley clouds and sun and brisk and cold and 25 degrees and feeling worse than that. down the shore clouds and sun

and high around 30 and philadelphia we'll get to 29 for a high and clouds mixing with sun and brisk and cold and windchills staying with the teens and winds running 7 to 1 miles per hour. overnight tonight the winds die down and we clear out and it gets bitter. 24 is the overnight low in philadelphia and down to 8 in some suburbs and these are the numbers around sunrise tomorrow morning. if you head out the door to school or work at 7:00 it's going to be raw. temperatures across the region in fact going down. these are the temperatures by 7:30 tomorrow morning, probably the northern and western suburbs the spots we get the -- and accuweather 29 degrees and brisk and cold and more clouds to the south and more unup north. and tomorrow blustery and cold. a high of just 26 and windchills in the single digits and teens all over again. and 25 on friday brisk with the windchills in the teens in all

likelihood. we are looking at the possibility of light snow during the day and doesn't look to put down more than 2 or 3 inches and light fluffy snow and 29 is the half noon high. and we have to keep our eyes on the system in case it puts down accumulation in parts of the region. the northern half is the best chance and too soon to guarantee that. and then we get into the weekend and saturday we have the snow and sunday 24 degrees for the high. and bundle up for the eagles and we'll be in the teens for new years eve as we bang that in at midnight. and 22 for a high on new years day. >> i have brain freeze looking at the forecast. thank you. by now your plans for new years eve are set. if you are not one of the bold souls willing to stand in times square to watch the ball drop. you can watch it from the comfort and warmth of your home. stay tuned for dick clarks rocking eve.
