no aides around. casual interview. >> a lot to discuss from that interview so let's bring in political analyst matthew dowd. matthew, good morning to you. the president's allies as you know have been railing against mueller, the special counsel, for weeks. now trump says, however, that he expects to be treated fairly by mueller so how do you reconcile that? >> well, we could probably spend the full two hours of "good morning america" today going through the conflicting statements of donald trump and trying to reconcile them. you can't reconcile it, those two things. i think it's good the president said that wmueller is doing. i'm sure democrats like that he said this but i think donald trump defines that he trusts bob mueller in the way that he says as long as he finds me innant or my family innocent. if he starts getting close to jared kushner or donald junior or the president, i think his tune will vastly change. >> another newsmaking comment from the interview, the president conducted the interview hours after sending

out a tweet in which he said the chinese had been caught red-handed shipping oil into north korea. trump then told "the times" he'd been soft on china on the issue of trade in hopes of getting their cooperation on north korea. he's now hinting that all may change. do you think this kind of implicit threat is likely to work with china? >> well, it hasn't worked yet, donald trump made a series of threats through the campaign in 2016 and at the beginning of his presidency that -- what he was going to do to china. the problem is china is in a very powerful position and hold a large part of our debt. the united states debt. so they're in a position of strength in the middle of this. i don't the president wants to get in a trade war. i don't think he wants to get in a situation where he pushes back too hard. i don't think those words will change any dynamic of this and still a position where north korea still has to be solved by a multinational group of countries coming together. >> such a pressing issue among many. we appreciate your analysis.

happy new year to you. a family suing alaska airlines after their wheelchair-bound mother tragically fell down an escalator while they say she was supposed to be accompanied by airline personnel. we want to warn you this is disturning. clayton sandell is there. good morning, clayton. >> reporter: good morning. you're right. that is hard to watch. bernice kekona was supposed to be taking a flight home. up stead she took a nasty fall. her family blaming alaska airlines and a contractor and this morning the airline is fighting back. this is the shocking moment they say that ultimately killed her tumbling down an escalator head first. >> it could be somebody else's grandma, mom, sister that this could happen to who is just neglected. >> reporter: in this video you can see kekona's wheelchair, it weighs several hundred pounds on top of her.

fellow travelers at the portland international airport scramble to lift it. a call alerting her family she had been rushed to a hospital. >> i yelled on the phone at her what the hell is she doing at the bottom of the escalator. >> reporter: kekona was flying from maui to spokane connecting through portland and alaska airlines was required by law to escort kekona to her next flight but they claim huntleigh, usa, the contract they contract abandoned her. >> after being seated in her wheelchair, they walked away and bernice became confused and pulls up to the escalator thinks she's getting on the elevator. >> reporter: the fall left her bedridden in constant pain for the next three months. she died in september. they are now suing huntleigh, usa and alaska airlines. >> it's not going to bring her back but someone needs to own up and take responsibility. >> reporter: alaska says we're heartbroken by this tragic and disturbing incident saying it appears ms. kekona declined ongoing continues in the

terminal and decided to proceed on her own to her connecting flight and when her family booked the reservation they did not check boxes indicating she had any impairments like trouble seeing or hearing. >> i just hope that, you know, we get justice for my grandma. >> reporter: as for that contractor huntleigh, usa, the ceo told me overnight they are investigating the facts of the case along with their lawyers. dan, paula. >> that video is tough. clayton sandell, thank you very much. we want to move to that surprising apology from apple after multiple lawsuits were filed. the tech giant admitting to secretly slowing down older model iphones and matt gutman is in los angeles with more on what apple is calling, a, quote, misunderstanding. good morning to you, matt. >> reporter: good morning. turns out consumers weren't just imagining things. some of their iphones really were slowing down. apple apologizing to its consumers over that sluggish iphone function claiming its

deliberate slowdown of older models was meant to preserve them writing we would never do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any apple product or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. the company says about a year ago it quietly installed software through updates that would intentionally slow functionality of some phones during peak workloads meaning when you use your phone most. the problem is they didn't clearly tell that to consumers. >> so apple is facing possible class action lawsuits trying to make things up to their customers. how so? >> reporter: they say next week they will start slashing the price of replacement batteries from 79 to 29 bucks and planning to roll out a software update that show consumers when their batteries are on their last legs, often that's all that needs t replaced in an older phone to make it work better. >> not sure if that will be enough for some consumers.

seconds before she says lewandowski slapped her rear end not once but twice writing i was shocked and embarrassed by his behavior. lewandowski now a contributor with fox was asked about the allegations. >> i'm not here to speak for joy but speak for me and what i am going to do let the process play forward. >> reporter: overnight new allegations that villa may have done a similar thing to what she is alleging lewandowski did to her. the website the wrap publishing this video of villa at a party. she can be seen here pretending to smack a man once before her hand actually lands on his rear end. he appears to laugh and go back to his conversation but this morning, that man george harris tells abc news he met villa that night for the first time and that slap was not consensual. as for the incident with lewandowski, villa has said all she's asked for is an apology.

paula. >> stephanie, now i am here with joy villa. thank you for coming to the studio and sharing your story. we will talk to you about that video we saw in a moment but let's start. you posted a photo on twitter that you say was taken just moments before the alleged incident with corey lewandowski. can you tell us what happened? >> yes, so, you know, i was at a party, it was a private party and it was at the trump hotel and i had met corey lewandowski for the first time, someone introduced me to him, a good friend who is a witness to the incident and we were sort of ushered into a photo together and he was very drunk and after the photo that i posted he smacked my behind really hard and i told him no, stop. that's not okay and i said, i could report you for sexual harassment and i'm looking at him thinking, he must realize this is inappropriate, like there's witnesses this, is a public space. very safe place. >> and he didn't? >> no, because he said, go ahead. i work in the private sector and

he did it even harder. >> you never got an apology and did confront him but this happened right around thanksgiving. why did you wait till now? >> it's a good question. for me the reasons most women don't come forward. i was scared. i thought i don't want to cause any ruckus or create any bad press based around the president. this has nothing to do with him but i'm an avid supporter. corey is a supporter. he has a lot more power than me. >> you didn't want to create a war within the republican party but met with detectives and filed what you thought were going to be sexual harassment complaint but they told you, the detective said this was sexual assault. did that surprise you? >> it did. it really did because i thought it was sexual harassment and when i described the incident to the detective she said this qualifies as sex wall assault and no one deserves to be

touched when they say no and the person keeps touching them. that's where the assault comes in and i was very much surprised. i mean, i've tried no the to make it a big deal. and really just to say this is what i want to do. i want to report this and i want to move on with my life. >> okay, corey lewandowski told fox business, quote, there is due possess and that he also wants to let the process play forward, so you said you haven't heard from him. what do you want to happen and are you willing to press charges even if that means he faces a criminal investigation? >> i would rather not go there. i really want an apology. >> you would be okay with just an apology. >> it's a hard situation because this is a crime that was committed against me and when i talk to the detectives yesterday was a three-hour, you know, process. it's a very grueling process. you tell your story over and over again. they ask questions and they had to remind i'm not on trial. because you feel like it's such -- it's such a big deal for

a woman to come forward and talk about it. >> right. >> but for me really what i -- i want this to be resolved in a manner that all of us can come out feeling good about it. i don't want to keep dragging his name through the mud. >> i want to show the video that is going around right now that shows you playfully slapping another man's behind. his name is george harris. he says it was not consensual and in the video you can say, take it easy, behave. how is what corey different than what you did to george. >> well, for one thing, he didn't say stop or no. and when he said take it easy, i was being stupid. it was at a party in las vegas and i did stop. and if i offended george, you know, i totally apologize and i made it clear i reached out to his best friend and talked it over and said, listen, if this offended you, i'm sorry. i own up to it. that's wrong and that's what we have to do to make sure we have a safe environment. we have to say i'm sorry. if he had said no i definitely

wouldn't have gone and done it again. when he said take it easy, i stopped. it was a joke. >> you're willing to apologize. >> absolutely. >> i've got to ask. you said you're an or interdid supporter of the president. you want people to believe your story but do you believe the women that -- the many women that accused the president of sexual assault and sexual harassment? >> what i want is for justice to be served. you asked if i would press charges or have the crime go further than this, right now there is an investigation. it is a crime and that is something that i had to come to terps with, a crime was committed against me so it is, i do agree with mr. lewandowski it is in the hands of the justice system but for him to say i'm sorry -- >> do you side with the women that have accused the president. >> i can only side with something that has happened to me. >> your own experience. >> this is my own experience. i also want to say that any woman who has had that experience needs to come out and talk about it and needs to file

in too much alcohol. all of this adds up to not a good feeling. >> yeah, you just basically me. so if you wake up on january 1st and you realize you have overdone it what is the number one thing to do? >> call me. i will make a house call. number two, hydration, hydration, hydration. there's been some theories that for every 250 milliliters of mixed alcohol that you consume, your body loses a liter of free water. so i can't emphasize this enough, before you go to bed try to drink a liter of water, it will definitely help how you feel the next day, there is question. >> there are some newer trendier so-called cures out there. can you walk us through which ones may actually do some good. >> i think we have them in front of you. i sent them to you from boston. one is barrage oil or borage oil. star flower, there have been

message of per sseverance with s new book "faith forward future." why do you think your specific message -- you go into these churches and it's filled with young people. why do you think your message and gospel is reaching these young people. >> i was a youth pastorhink i j long time was speaking to young people so maybe i still speak their language. so i don't know. i'm a pastor's kid and grew up in church. i think we're the best we can of making it rill vapts and making it a message people can understand. >> and making it message. zoe church out in california. you guys have created your own line of skater gear. >> hoodies and hats. >> i think people love to rock what they love. they love to represent that and so i just figure people love church. let's mutt them in church merch.

>> yeah, church merch wearing a hoodie and someone can say what's that from? it's from my church. >> a way to start a "faith forward future." moving past hardships and disappointments, something your family experienced firsthand. you have your fourth child on the way with your beautiful wife but your daughter georgia was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder just 4 months old. how did that rock your family? >> i think, you know, you're not aware of anyone else's pain until you have pain. so this was the first time for my family we went through something like that and to have a diagnosis like that, it was our first born. i think it really started for us to make us realize what do we believe in and how to dr. hope against hope and so we made a decision as a family, we're going to be positive about it and try and let this little girl be a message of hope, of inspiration rather than just being defined by this >> and you see people wearing

that hope and inspiration. like people have -- celebrities have had "g" for georgia tattooed on their arm. that means a lot. >> at a mall in oklahoma city and this group of girls, ten college girls run up to me and say, hey, we got the gtat for your daughter. it's mind blowing to think people are supporting this little girl. it's amazing. >> you write about the need to -- i love this. stop holding on to your history at the expense of your destiny and as we look forward we're king forward to 2018. what is your number one tip or encouragement to carry into 2018? >> i think so many of us get defined by mistakes and i always think, you know, we plight have made a mistake but we're not a mistake. coming into the new year we have can overcome my struggle, my obstacle. whatever happened happened. let's move on in 2018. i talk to so many people, i'm so glad 20171 over. the worst year. all right, that's fine but best
