cold. we're getting a double dose of , snow mixed with cold temperatures we've seen in decades. gray hall is off, i'm nydia han. sub freezing and dangerously cold temperatures have gripped the region turning the delaware river into ice. sky6 live hd taking a live look outside right now. hard to see, the center city skyline via the temple university camera. we've seen snow falling across parts of the region already this morning. meteorologist chris sowers joins us now with details on the snowfall and dangerous temperatures for the new year's celebrations. good morning, chris lots to talk about. >> reporter: good morning, everybody, it's going from bad to worse, if you're not a big fa will not like the seven-day forecast.

it gets mighty cold over the next several days. with that said walking down to the parking lot on city avenue. all theot have been treated with brine and salt. the temperatures are so cold, that salt and brine is less effective than it normally would be. that's why we're issuing the accuweather alert it's not for the amount of snow, it's the fact that the snow will stick and the roads will become treacherous for a few hours during the late morning and the afternoon. that's why the national weather service issued a winter weather advisory. generally a coating to two inches likely in the shaded areas. lancaster county in southeastern pennsylvania you're included in the advisory and most of the new jersey. state of delaware, you guys are clear of the winter weather advisory, as well. it's a small system, it's kind of raggedly looking, siewk he

the holes in the moisture deck as it swings on through. this is the clipper system that produce a coating to two inches. where you're seeing the brighter whites that's where the heaviest snow is beginning to fall philadelphia county from the airport to center city. route 73 looks like it is coming down steadily now east of cherry hill. there's another band over route 322 from glassboro to the commodore barry bridge. looks like the snow is flying at a good clip there, as well. this is marching to the east at 20 to 25 miles per hour. the temperatures are frigid out here, it's only 14 right now in kutztown and quakertown. 19 in center city. and 19 in media. 18 in glassboro. 18 in vineland, 19 in cinnaminson. call from accuweather today, cloudy and cold, light snow 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 27 degrees is the forecasted high. as we take a quick look at the impact scale it will be the next

future tracker 6 that shield of moisture in the process of pushing through now. this will continue to be the trend. it will be snowing from 1:00 p.m., to 2:00 p.m. this afternoon. most of the activity works out to sea, h arctic front right here, with the passage of the front, maybe you pick up a quick-hitting snow shower or brief snow squall that's what the model is showing in the lehigh valley maybe another one west of philadelphia. if we start to see this with the passage of the front it won't last long, maybe ten, 15 minutes tops. it will coat the ground quickly. behind its arctic air racing into the delaware and the lehigh valley. this air drops into the deep south this time around, theouldt close to freezing, places like pensacola, tallahassee, jacksonville close to freezing overnight tonight and tomorrow night. that is how massive the arctic high is. what to expect today, this is a light, fluffy snow that will fly from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

ago there are flurries, but they are visible near the streetlights. meteorologist chris sowers is tracking the details on the frigid snow all morning long. it's going to get colder, right? >> reporter: the worst ime once we get into new year's eve and new year's day, that's the coldest air we've seen in decades, the polar vortex drops down from the great lake states. here's the live view, where we are seeing the brighter white that's where the steadier to moderate snow is falling in the airport reportingvalley. moderate snow, western portions of salem, camden and gloucester counties. you can see the snow is coming down heavily. route 30, east of malvern, you're seeing steady snow as the plow drives by dropping salt on the roads. route 322 from the commodore

coverage begins at 8:00 p.m. on channel 6. >> 7:36 a.m., saturday morning, new this morning, chester city police have arrested a man they say attacked stabbed and raped a woman on christmas eve. they say shaquille tillman attacked the woman at 2:30 p.m. the victim was treated at crozer-chester medical center. tillman is being held on $1 million bail. a man is under arrest following a high-speed chase that began in delaware and ended in new jersey. the chase began in wilmington where the carolice cruiser. the car went over the delaware memorial bridge in new jersey. the pursuit went along 295 and off at route 30 heading east into berlin. the three suspects inside the vehicle try to make a run for it. chopper 6 hd was over the scene where police caught up to one of the suspects. no injuries reported. 2017 is coming to to a close in philadelphia with a spike in the homicide rate.

as of yesterday there were 314 homicide compared to 277 at this time last year that is a 13% increase and the highest number in five years. the number of overall shooting down. there have been 58 fewer people shot this year. >> shooting victims, the number of people that are shot are down slightly, 4.5%, but the number of people that have died as a result of the shootings have increased. >> philadelphia police are in the process of forming a gun violence task force. they have introduced an intelligence bureau to improve information sharing and put more boots on the ground by increasing the bike patrol. a federal judge ruled against democratic voters who wanted to throw out the congressional map in the state. the judge ruled even though the current map favors republicans, it does not violate

steadily, moderate snow at philadelphia international. the runways look all right, it's the side of the runways that are covered. we're not seeing any delays intk is now reporting departure delays, so i'm sure it's only a matter of time before philadelphia starts seeing delays, as well. beautiful shot, downtown center city. you can see the christmas tree in the back drowned is there. traffic is moving along just fine, i urge everybody to take it easy on the roads even though the roads are well treated with the brine and salt, the temperatures are so cold that the brine and salt are less effective than it would be. a lot of slick spots will develop in the next couple of hours. we have a bands of snow pushing through the heart of delaware valley. philadelphia reporting moderate snows and southwestern portions ever burlington county seeing moderate snow. i'm not sure you can pick this

up here, you can see the specs of purple starting to show up. this is heavy snow. this is western portions of gloucester, the delaware river, and camden counties in south jersey, here's berlin and medford lakes. all the main roads are completely snow covered at this point. this is moving off to the east at 20 to 25 miles per hour. that's the back end right there, it's not doing anything in new castle county and delaware with the exception of a few flurries in the northern portion of the county. again this is lifting through, maybe a couple of hours left with snow. this is the wider view, the alberta clipper system lots of dry air pushing into the storm. that's the saving grace. once the low which is situated here hits the coast. we have a moisture source to tap into. long island part of new england they will see the heavier snow from the system. this is kind of in the organizing stages now.
