we see bone chilling temperatures and dangerous windchill as we usher in the new year. i'm walter perez. the big news is the cold air moving into the area. the forecast moves from uncomfortable to dangerous. adam joseph is tracking conditions. he joins us with the first check of the forecast. >> it was tuesday afternoon when we first noted the plunging temperatures. the coldest is flooding in with afternoon highs on the average of 21-degrees below normal and colder air set to arrive than this end of the seven-day forecast next friday. right now, nine in philadelphia, nine in new york city. buffalo, eight below. binghamton five below zero.

we see the -- before the numbers in the delaware and lehigh valley tonight and monday morning. the snow from earlier today, under an inch to three inches of snow early this morning. the clear sky is taking over and dominating the sky the next couple of days. even with full sunshine, here's your windchill tracker 14 hours or so, midnight now through noontime tomorrow. you see it settles in the single digit and stays with the winds, 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts over 30 miles per hour. as we take a look at the next 48 hours, extremely harsh, bitter for the eagles with winds 30 miles per hour, near five during the game tomorrow afternoon. brutal ball drop with temperatures feeling near zero. forget the mummer's strutting.

were snow covered when the action cam showed up. people decided to stay inside rather than adventure out. there was a pileup on the schuylkill express way involving 15 cars. >> i stopped by to get coffee. >> for most people like ryan, this morning's snow fall was hardly intimidating. >> the worst part was my own drive way. >> it was enough to cause major problems on the road. the weather was to blame for a crash involving 14 cars. it forced the schuylkill to shut down for several hours. a tractor trailer driver is lucky to be alive when his truck flipped over on the blue route.
