bloomquist is off. the big story on "action news" is our accuweather alert. and it's an unwelcome dose of deja vu. we are stuck in the repeat in the cold weather and g with record levels today and today is of course the worst yet. and some schools were cr delay because of the snow and ice and caked on roads because the arctic blast is not letting up any time soon. septa bus commuters are waiting longer in the bitter cold and they are delayed and detoured due to the street conditions. one lady our jeanette reyes talked to is taking it in stride. >> they need to stay home and be in bed and not go to work and have a hot cocoa and hot toddy. >> how long? >> 48 hours. that is all you need. that's all. the coal weather taking its toll on the lens there.

and we caught the flags whipping around by the ben franklin parkway. the gulfs are making the awful cold even worse. bob brooks outside near the schuylway but first lets check in with meteorologisn for david murphy. >> happy frigid friday. >> you said it. it's certainly coldhe lehigh valleys. it's it's wind we are dealing with. making it feel lik arctic invasion and windchills are well below zero. here is satellite 6 along with action radar we are dry in the wake of this snow. and the big weather headline and into the weekend the frigid digits across the region. feeling like 15 in philadelphia. and current air temperature in wilmington in at 15. and 14 for allentown and reading a cape may millville. this is what you want to dress

for when you step outside. extra ls are needed feeling like we are 5 degrees zero in philadelphia. 1 below in reading and 7 below zero right now in lancaster. part of the reason why we are dealing with gusty wines across the region. peak wind gusts 39 miles per hour in philadelphia and gust as high as 36 in wilmington and 38 in allentown and 43 miles per hour wind gust in the poconos. the wind advisory stays up until noon on saturday. a windchill advisory for the heart of the delaware and lehigh valleys and a windchill warning up for the poconos. there is not much for frostbite to step in. for the delaware and lehigh valleys. only 30 minutes before frostbite conditions settle in and it only takes 15 minutes in the poconos before you have problems on your skin. if you think it's cold now we are potentially looking at

record morning lows into saturday morning. >> all right melissa thank you. lets switch now to "action news" reporter, bob brooks in the elements in fairmount park. the dangerous cold is still a huge concern this afternoon? >> reporter: yes, absolutely. anybody going outside anyone going outside, if you don't have to don't. and we are next to the running trail and we see joggers still out here doing it. yikes that is the wor have to describe that. it's freezing out here. behind me a visibly beautiful shot up the schuylkill river, maybe we are missing a polar bear walking around there. that is a good indicator how cold it is it's frozen over and people go about their days and that is where we go into center city and we took a look at that.

the winds they are whipping and snow pile they are freezing and can you walk on top of most of them. and everybody is bundled up. >> and she was too cold to stop. bone chilling winds followed up the snow storm and it's cold today real cold. >> it's painful. frozen. >> stay warm. >> stay inside. stay warm. >> stay bundled up. >> many lairs going on here. >> and for most people life has to go on like normal and they have to get to work in the city like normal. that means walking out in the brutal cold like normal. >> we are headed to starbucks for a morning fix and then we have to get to work. >> we spend enough time complaining. >> but if you can believe this, there are those that we spoke with that are taking the freezing wind and arctic weather in stride. >> i grew this beard. and i started on thanksgiving.

the good guys from able body christian men got to work in southwest philadelphia. they shoveled walkways for disabled senior residents all for free. >> our volunteers come out and shovel. and they are able to go to their medical appointments and go about their daly lives. >> good for them. they have other crews shoveling elsewhere in the city. and all the supplies were paid for out of their pocket unless a donor helps out. >> strangers s cots at phila international airport. they provided the hospitality nothing else t blankce available. everything is sold out. >> a live look at the airport.

conditions are improving slowly but surely. if you are scheduled to fly out today check with your particular airline. well, the snow and the cold conditions complicated evacuation efforts at an apartment high rise fire in atlantic city last night. the red cross is helping hundreds of senior citizens forced out of the jeffrey inlet towers, staying at casino hotel. it's thought to be electrical n nature. >> people in delaware are digging out. a ploruwck was digging out snow fromarking lots in mill creek.reezing temperatured hit the area hard. one area ofad waterng from

wall. a newer section of the sea wall is holding up but crewsre woing t oer t yesterday caused and homes an businesses were inundated with several feet of water. it froze in place and families were trapped in their homes. and one family had to be rescued by a bucket truck. >> i saw it come closer and closer. oh, no. it was hitting the sea wall and above the telephone poles. driving on the streets were nearly impossible and cars got trapped in the floodwaters forcing drivers to walk to dry land. meteorologist, melissa magee, is back now with normal check of the forecast. we are talk being record cold this weekend. >> especially as you wake up tomorrow morning and a closer call into sunday morning. cold temperatures are on the way and it feels like below zero and it will feel that way for the majority of afternoon. stormtracker 6 live double scan you can see that it is dry and no issues with snowfall. and all of that moisture well out along the atlantic, it's dry and frigid. and it's windy and that make its feel unbearable. here is the picture. sky 6 hd in montgomery county there. looking at spring mountain you see skiers and snowboarders on the slopes there enjoying a good

time. and certainly good for the skiers in the snow resorts in our region. as you look at the sustained wind speeds this is part of the problem. coming in at 29 miles per hour and 22 in allentown and 24 in wilmington and gusting anywhere from 30 to 45 miles per hour up north in the poconos. when you factor that in it certainly feels untolerable. feeling like 20 degrees below zero in the poconos. they are underneath a windchill warning, everyoneless undewindc. feeling lying 5 below zero in the city and 7 below zero in lancaster. here is satellite 6 along with action radar we are dry and quiet after the snowfall we had yesterday. quiet conditions across much of the mid-atlantic region but the stiff westerly wind outside. extra layers are certainly needed. mostly sunny for today and we have a bitter and biting wind and high temperature coming in

at 17 degrees it will never kneel like that through the rest of the afternoon. here is future tracker 6 showing you at 2:00. here along the i-95 corridor and 1 below in wilmington and later this evening most spots below zero and as you wake up in the morning, 9:00 if the morning many locations well below zero. 26 below zero in the poconos. challenging record morning temperatures here in philadelphia on saturday, and more so as we get into sunday. fast forward into early next week. we are tracking another system that moves into late monday and into tuesday. the ground is below freezing and light precipitation that will likely move east. and snow is likely in the northwest suburbs, maybe some mixed precipitation along the i-95 corridor and rain to the south and east. this is something we are tracking as we get into late monday night and into tuesday. in the near term we are bracing for the cold. extra layers are needed this

afternoon. here is the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast with the accuweather alert. bitter cold is back today a high temperature of just 17. you'll wake up tomorrow morning and a morning low temperature of 5 close to r4. still frigid on saturday. and windy and a high temperature of 15 degrees on sunday cold and minus the wind high of 19 and then monda 35 but we are tracking the wintry mix on the way. and tuesday partly sunny and 40. and colder on wednesday 33. and we start to warm up next thursday with more clouds and a high of 42. but brace yourself on the way this weekend. >> that is for sure. thank you. a small dog in northern pennsylvania was snatched by an eagle and was found alive nearby. incredible story here monica knew hart says on tuesday her brother saw the mighty bird of prey snatch the dog near the lehigh valley river.
