pottstown -1 and philadelphia tied the record of 4. this morning a lot of my twitter followers were telling me how cold it was i said i need visual confirmation. so they started sending me in pictures. get a load of this. glassboro new jersey. here is mullica hill. and i could have showed you about 20 ofese. everybody started sending these in. it was really, really cold first thing this morning. temperatures are back above zero now but the wind chills are below zero. it feels like 19 below in the poconos with a wind chill warning in effect until 10:00 a.m. -7 in philadelphia and -5 in millville. forecast for today, we'll see mostly sunny skies out here. it's not going to be quite as harsh as yesterday. the winds should ease up a bit

after lunch. 19 degrees is the forecasted high. this will be the last of the bone-chilling frigid cold air. when i come back in just a few minutes, we'll talk about the milder temperatures heading this way and the accuweather 7-day forecast and a little mix arriving tomorrow afternoon. dekals coming up in about 10 minutes. >> officials making quick progress on the vine street expressway. that major thoroughfare had been completely shut down in both directions. >> word just in both sides of the expressway are now open again. it had become a literal ice rink this morning after a water line break at 17th and callow hill street in spring garden. softions really made a quick job of getting this major roadway open. how is it looking now? >> reporter: the vine street expressway a major artery through the city a situation

that needed to be remedied. you havengs likenear-record cold temperatures. the expressway is fully reopened at this point. this a few minutes ago but that was not the case earlier this morning. when this pipe burst around 5:00 this morning. i want to bring up the video here and take a look. this is a barren vine street expressway. you'll see some strucks trying to scrape off the ice and we have other video where this happened. a water main in or around the parking garage at callow hill was leaking water down into the expressway. you can see from the video where it was coming out and it was freezing almost instantly. it is really cold out here. you also see a lot of steam coming out from sko of the storm drains. officials thought that maybe therond p that had or that was just from residual runoff from the water

main break. they're still trying to figure that out but the good news is the expressway has reopened. another live look you can see cars flowing eastbound westbound, though you are advised to take it carefully as you can going through there because i'm looking down on to the expressway there, it's still a little slick and obviously it's very cold out here. bob brooks, channel 6ion > thank youb. course this dangerous icy mess comes from our extremely frigid temperatures we've been dealing with for the past several days. the action cam was in northeast phia last nig few people decided to venture outside, brave the cold. these dangerous conditions have also homeless advocates on extrat. 300 ministries served the regular saturday evening meal and did what they could to get everyone into a warm place to stay. the city's outreach team says they have been taking in several men and women to a shelter.

springfield, delaware county hours after he died in a blaze in north philadelphia. officials say the 11-year pinned by f debris. >> this is where he started. this is what started him on the areer fi to career firefighter in philadelphia. >> reporter: he began serving while at high school, he continued to teach and mentor here. >> absolutely one of the best ned, well-intentioned and passionate firefighters i've ever met. >> we sat next to each other in fire school. >> reporter: the finder of red paw emergency team, the nonprofit created to help pets says it was letourneau who became a devoted volunteer. >> if he was at a fire where there were pets he would call us right away. he did everything. he was a volunteer he was a foster he was a donor. >> reporter: he even adopted kittens he rescued himself in a blaze. those who worked alongside the

police say the driver was driving eastbound and lost control and slammed into that utility pole. that crash brought wires down on the roadway. no word this morning on the extent of the driver's injuries. utility crews are making repairs to those downed wires. >> an active search for a university of pennsylvania student who disappeared while visiting his family in southern california.this is 19-year-old he sl visiting home over the holidays when he vanished on tuesday. police say he met up with a friend and they drove to a park in orange county. he was last scene around 11:30 tuesday night. his father says he believes his son was planning to return home that night because he didn't take his wallet with >> dvehirs on the pennsylvania turnpike paying more money this morning. both cash and easy pass users will see a 6% increase. there is no increase for easy pass customers at the delaware river bridge going westbound in bucks county. the fare hike is the latest in a

the vine street expressway is now flowing with traffi again. it had been closed for several

hours after a water line break led to dangerous and icy conditions. >> it was a mess. the good news though offeringses have reopened the vine just about a half hour ago and traffic is flowing pret there. action is on the scene with the latest clear that good morning reporter: good morning, jeannette and gray. we have almost near-record cold temperatures like this you have to expect things like this pipes bursting to happen. the good news is you can see the vine street expressway has reopened. that was about a half hour ago. just around 9:00 officials working very quickly to try and remedy the situation and make the expressway safe to drive on. i want to bring up the video here which you see is around 5:00 this morning. that is the barren expressway trucks out there trying to melt the ice and scrape it off all because of a water main burst about a block away from here. this is at 17th and callow hill.

a water main broke and started leaking water you're going to see water freezing all over the place. anyone going in that area please be careful. it is really cold a lot of ice over there. officials say they were worried that a second main might have broke. a lot of steam was coming out of the storm drains. that was either a second water main or maybe residual the better case scenario the water from the initial main that had broke. here's an official with the water department explaining more with what they're trying to do. let's take a listen. >> a lot of steam taking place k with them and see if there's anything going on between the water main and that. and for now we're still assessing what's happening and we'll keep working until we find out what's going on. >> reporter: another live look here at the vine street expressway. the good news it has reopened and over the course of the last half hour since it has reopened i can tell you the road

the police department is asking you not to do that because the water is moving and the blocks of ice are drafting apart. so if you're on the ice and they drift apart, you fall in. this is part of the reason why the cape may-lewes ferry is docked until the ice starts to melt it's dangerous down there. temperatures are going to finally crack the freezing mark tomorrow and they should stay above freezing for at least four or five days in a row. right now we're showing 7 degrees for philadelphia, 5 in atlantic city 11 in cape may 6 in allentown and lancaster. factoring in the winds it feels like single digits below zero. still very,ry cold. -6 in trenton -7 in philadelphia and degrees up there in the lehigh valley. forecast for today, we're looking at a sunshine like yesterday, a nice-lookingy, better cold with a high of 19. by 2:00. and by:00, 18 degrees. i'll be back just a few

this massive deep freeze has created an unusual sight off the shore of massachusetts. dozens of boats frozen off water. there wasn't enough room for all the smaller boats so owner left them in place and they're still there. temperatures have barely been in double digits for more than a week. and a hunter and his son in western pennsylvania saved the day when a deer got stuck on the ice. the man spotted the deer t trappediver there. he tied himself to a line that was held there by his son. you can see him walking off the water. he inched his way over and carried it to the bank. that deer took the first chance at getting away and did just that and looks to be okay. >> meteorologist chris sowers tracking the forecast for you say it's 10 degrees but that depends where you live
