also along route 30, route three in media, also to the east in palmyra and also frankford so this will continue as we go throughout the rest of evening hours. speaking of the precipitation, well, it's causing some travel delays, more than two hours at j.f.k. la guardia, 112 minutes there in newark in philadelphia we've got delays up to 47 minutes. so, what to expect as we go throughout the rest of tonight and talking about that precipitation and when it will come to an end. in the lehigh and northwest suburbs, now to about 6 o'clock, philadelphia the i-95 metro area looking for things to taper off between 8:00 p.m. and 10 o'clock and in south jersey and central delaware, from 10:00 p.m. to midnight we'll start to see that moisture taper. the good news, this will come to an end and milder air moves in as we get into tuesday. we've got more details with that accuweather forecast. sharrie. >> melissa thank you. we switch to matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center and matt it's going to be a slow ride home for many. >> yeah, that's for sure, sharrie. we saw big delays especially

earlier this afternoon as people tried to head home from work early which was a good idea. when i walked out of my house this afternoon my neighbors' car next door covered in ice. so, if you don't have a garage, you don't have an overhang to park under your car, too, will be covered in ice and of course you need to clean it off before you try and hit the roads. luckily at this point most of our roads are not covered in ice, at least not if they've been treated and of course all the highways have been treated so heavily the last few days with the series of storms that we've been facing. live look at the schuylkill expressway here at conshohocken and since last we checked the travel time has gotten about 10 minutes better. now it's about a 20 minute delay as you come eastbound but you have to keep those speeds down and it looks like the this afternoon people have been doing that which is a good thing. meanwhile on the boulevard we had a truck fire near adams avenue. that's cleared out. but they're still cleaning up that overturned truck in southwest philadelphia at island and lindbergh. also a debris spill and fuel spill involved with in so i'd definitely avoid that intersection as you head toward philadelphia international airport this afternoon.

watching other issues around the region including a downed pole in horsham blocking babylon road. stick with willow brook road or tournament drive to get around that. have to drop the speeds of course but at this point no big issues along 611, the pennsylvania turnpike or the northeast extension of the turnpike. but out in kennett square we're watching an overturned propane truck so this is a pretty big issue. you want to avoid kennett pike, 52, baird road, greenwood road or creek road would be some alternates. in new castle watching a crash by the budget inn along route nine new castle avenue at memorial drive. in mount holly it's a water main break that's closing rancocas drive this afternoon. head for marne highway washington street to get around that. we'll check it again, sharrie and brian, coming up in the next half hour. >> matt, thanks. well, as we deal of course with this wintry mix, we watch and wait to see if the icy conditions will affect the power in homes and businesses. power crews in south jersey say they are already ready if they are needed. and joins us now live from cherry hill with the full story from there. hi, john. >> reporter: hi, sharrie. well, we have a light drizzle here right now, for the last 15, 20 minutes i guess and when it hits the top of this curbside trash can, i don't know if you can tell, but it is icing up there, very, very little ice. it's sort of a very light glaze. not enough to impact the power utility lines here. they need at least a quarter inch of ice there before that becomes problematic. in talking to the two big power utilities in the area, both peco and pse&g, they don't believe that their system is at any risk at this point in time given the forecast. take electrical distribution lines that run along your street to your hou large nearby trees and then mix in a forecast with a possibility of icing conditions. and you get the attention of those whose job it is to keep the lights on. pse&g has some one half million customers in what it calls its southern division.
4:04 pm
we spoke with the division manager shortly after 1:00 p.m. today. >> the latest forecast we have is trace amounts, maybe just a small amount of icing, so based upon that forecast, we don't anticipate much problems, john, but we're going to hold some crews just in case. >> reporter: since forecasts can change, pse&g will have crews on standby. maybe the biggest winter storm ice event in recent years was early february 2014. a especially hard hit chester county where two to .2. according to peco plunged more than 100,000 customers into the cold and dark for days. again, to be clear, no one anticipating anything like that with this weather system. in fact again talking to both of the big power utilities, both peco and pse&g, they don't believe that they're going to have any significant issues tonight given what is in the forecast. live in cherry hill, john rawlins, channel6 "action
