hour. this did all end without police firing a single shot in the 12 hours in the aftermath a suspected gunman is firing multiple time at the offices was discovered dead at the house. and police say the injuries were self-inflicted. 12 hours into the standoff in sicklerville new jersey, the s.w.a.t. team entered the home. and they found the gunman suffering from self inflicted gunshot wounds. >> i can tell you it did not come from the officers. >> and we discovered a female in the resident that was all right. >> reporter: the officers were immediately fired upon by the suspect inside of the house and the s.w.a.t. team and negotiators were called to the scene along with an armored vehicle that is credited with

saving officers lives. >> i don't know how we would have handle it without this equipment. >> during the standoff the residents were told to shelter in place. >> came out to see what is going on. go inside the guy has a semi and he could reach to where we were. >> and homeowners that were not home wait bid a nearby high school communicating with loved ones by phone. schools were closed because of the violence nearby. >> she heard the gunshots at 5:00 and then another series a few minutes after that and didn't stop hearing that until after 12:00. >> about ten townhomes and 18 residents were evacuated to a nearby fire station and they of course, have been allowed to return to their home since the stand your ended. police found a handgun and rifle inside of the residence and the woman inside who was again uninjured was taken to the

appearances were routine and took only minutes. >> you have have a right to a probable cause hearing. >> dr. james kauffman and ferdinand augello, one a doctor and the other an alleged biker. are accused of being part of an alleged murder for hire plot. kauffman's attorney says his guy, not involved. >> he is not guilty. >> the focus on a supposed falling out amongst the partners, augello talked about having kauffman murdered. >> there was a plot to kill dr. kauffman. >> and the authorities are taking the accusations seriously. kauffman moved to the prison in north jersey who remained in

jail in atlantic county. >> it's noted that ferdinand augello has been charged with the conspiracy to commit the murder of james kauffman. we don't think it would be prudent for those to be lodged together. >> one person that will not be in court is the man that authorities think to have received $20,000 to actually fired the gun that killed miss kauffman, he is dead and he died of a drug overdose 18 months after the death of april kauffman. john rawlins, channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. it is a day of remembrance for philadelphia firefighter killed in the line of duty. a live look now in center city where a public viewing is held in honor of lieutenant matthew letourneau. people are lined up outside of the cathedral of saints peter and paul.

. crews in california spend the day trying to find eight them that disappeared during the deadly mudslides. 500 first responders and a dozen dogs are scouring the thick mud and debris desperately searching for survivors at least 17 people are killed. and more than 400 homes were damaged but the area where 65 homes were destroyed was not in a mandatory evacuation zone. >> i turned and apologized to my folks because i did not force them to evacuate. there was an emotional moment. >> some people stands were air-lifted to safety and rain is not the forecast in that area for the next weeks that means
