afternoon. sky6 shows traffic struggling to squeeze into a single lane as trees and debris covered the eastbound expressway between gladwyne and belmont avenue. meteorologist cecily tynan tells us where we have been and where we're going next. cecily. >> and jim, double scan live showing the storm system is far from done with us yet. we've got some heavy rain that's moving out of virginia right now. we had some heavy rain earlier. there's snow out to the west and this is really bringing us some wild weather. double scan live zoomed in shows right now we have a steady generally light to moderate rain west of philadelphia but there is more that's going to be moving up from the south. so, tonight, friday night if you're heading out, take the rain gear. an additional quarter to a half inch. we've already gotten about an inch and a quarter in philadelphia. more minor street flooding and then an arctic front flows through. what this will do is bring us a big crash in temperatures near dawn and as that colder air moves in there could be some icing in the far north and west counties. so, the national weather

service has issued a winter weather advisory for lancaster, berks, lehigh, northampton counties in the poconos. it goes in effect until 1 o'clock in the morning until 10:00. i think icing would likely occur around 4 o'clock in the morning or so and then behind this system we do dry out tomorrow but find the layers. you will need them. future tracker showing 8:30 tomorrow morning, we're already dropping. the wind chills into the teens in philadelphia, the north and west suburbs into the single digits. if you're planning on skiing in the poconos, the wind chill down to 10 below, big weekend for skiing in the poconos. then heading into the afternoon, going to the eagles game, look at that at 4:30 when the game starts the wind chill only 16 degrees and next week i'm tracking a chance of snow. i'll talk about that in the seven-day forecast. jim. >> thank you cecily. and we are urge you to stay with "action news" throughout the weekend for updates on the forecast and be sure to check out the 6abc app to view storm tracker six right on your phone or tablet. the 6abc app is a free

download for your mobile device. >> ♪ and we are following breaking news from southern california at this hour. there has been an arrest in the murder of blaze bernstein. this is the suspect. the 19-year-old student from the university of pennsylvania disappeared last week. his body was then found on tuesday. the orange county sheriff's office has scheduled a news conference for 7:00 p.m. an hour from now to give more details about this suspect, about the arrest and look for breaking information on 6abc.com and of course on "action news" at 11:00. the city of philadelphia put its hand over its heart today to pay tribute to fire lieutenant matthew letourneau. letourneau was killed last saturday fighting a blaze in north philadelphia. today his family, his colleagues and the city said goodbye. did -- saluted their fallen brother 42-year-old matthew letourneau. it's been nearly a week since he died fighting a row home fire in north philadelphia. here at the basilica of saints peter and paul bag pipes played. at his final resting place in delaware county, he arrived to a hero's welcome. the fire commissioner a friend spoke today to hundreds at the funeral mass about the lieutenant's passion for public service. >> he was all in. all the time. he lived ate, slept and breathed this job. >> reporter: in high school he began volunteering at the springfield fire company up until his death he was a lifetime member. the mayor shared this today. >> and in his spare time matt would go home. he would go back to where he grew up to springfield and naturally he volunteered to fight fires there, too.

>> reporter: his family said today that he will be missed by their entire family especially nieces and nephews. he will be remembered for his smile and compassion for people and animals, even fostering some of the pets he saved from fires. the philadelphia fire department announced today that lieutenant matthew letourneau will now be promoted to the rank of captain. that will happen in the coming weeks. reporting in center city, annie mccormick channel6 "action news". >> new jersey transit bus driver is recovering after being stabbed today. the incident happened at the intersection of haddon and cane avenues in camden at 9:30 this morning. police say a man tried to board the bus with a dog. the situation escalated when the driver said that the dog couldn't come on board. police say the suspect stabbed the driver several times in the arm and shoulder. the unidentified suspect is now in the custody of police. a 28-year-old man is still fighting for his life after

being shot last night in a barbershop robbery and meanwhile police are still trying to track down the gunman. "action news" reporter vernon odom is live at temple university hospital. vernon, what's the latest there? >> reporter: jim, the latest is that jayliel frazier is still struggling to survive, to survive that extremely bad gunshot wound to the chest he sustained last night in north philadelphia and tonight at this hour, the police manhunt for two would be robbers intensifies. this man 28-year-old jayliel frazier is being called a hero by police but he's fighting for his life tonight after being shot last night as he tried to stop an armed robbery attempt by two bandits. it happened at this barbershop on north 22nd street around 9 o'clock. frazier was there to get a layer haircut so was a mother with her two children. frazier put his body on the line to stop a crime. >> at least two children in

there. he must have been reacting to that and he confronted and engaged the person carrying the firearm and again it spilled outside and then that person fired at him at least twice. >> reporter: and his condition. >> extremely critical. >> for the most part it's still touch and go but he's progressed. ever since last night he's progressed a whole lot. he started to breathe on his own. >> reporter: frazier's family is keeping vigil at temple university hospital praying this young man can pull through. >> not surprising that he fought off gunmen trying to rob the place and it was more so about trying protect the children that were in the barbershop although the children in the barbershop weren't his own. >> reporter: jim, jayliel frazier continues to battle for his life at this hour he is himself the father of two children as the police manhunt intensifies tonight. at temple university hospital i'm vernon odom channel6 "action news." >> thank you vernon. camden's new mayor was sworn in on new year's day but

tonight it's all about ceremony. within the hour francisco frank moran will be sworn in ceremonially. this is taking place at the anti-i don't know baptist church in camden. the democrat had the backing of outgoing mayor dana redd who declined to run for a third term. we are less than 24 hours away from the moment of truth. can the eagles overcome adversity to beat the falcons and then compete for the right to go on to the super bowl? >> hatfield township police investigating a close call on the tracks this morning in lansdale. investigators say a car traveling on walnut street stopped on the tracks for some reason and was struck by a septa train. the occupants were not hurt

despite damage to the car. the train's engineer was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. in advance of martin luther king jr. day students in collingswood, new jersey, took part in a day of service. >> ♪ the morning began with a prayer service at good shepherd catholic school. the classes then split up to work on various projects. some made baby blankets for our lady of lourdes medical center in camden. younger students painted rocks with encouraging messages to leave around the parish. a new exhibit based on george washington is getting ready to open at the museum of the american revolution in center city philadelphia. the exhibit is called among his troops. it depicts how washington and his soldiers lived in camps during the american revolution. the exhibit is based on a 235-year-old painting and features the recreation of the

tent washington slept in. it opens tomorrow, runs through president's day. also in center city, a ben franklin celebration an early celebration of the founding father's 312th birthday. the event includes a procession through olde city and a wreath laying at the franklin's grave at the christchurch burial ground. the american philosophical society which he founded also held a seminar to discuss race relations during franklin's time and today.

♪ ♪ (radio playing in background) ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ >> they celebrated the life harold tubby raymond at the university of delaware. the hall of fame coach died last month at the age of 92. joe biden among those to honor raymond's tenure at delaware. former delaware and nfl nfl quarterback rich gannon also spoke today. raymond was head coach of the blue hens from 1966 to 2001.

in those 36 years tubby raymond won 300 games, three national titles and nine conference titles, truly a coaching legend. tubby raymond at delaware. eagles by this time tomorrow night will probably be at halftime or thereabouts. we'll know a fair amount. >> hopefully leading the way and going on to beat the atlanta falcons tomorrow in that divisional round game. eagles making their final playoff preparations today with a light walk through tonight. they'll get some shut eye and hopefully wake up tomorrow fresh and ready to shut down atlanta. here are the falcons arriving in philadelphia tonight where they have never won a playoff game. eagles two and o against them in the playoffs at home. their last win, who could forget 2004 when they beat them to go to the super bowl. nick foles will be facing a tough feat tomorrow but it's nothing running back jay ajayi hasn't seen before. he had his best game of the season 130 yards rushing against atlanta back in

october while playing for miami. ajayi says all aboard the j train to the super bowl. >> number one seed team with opportunity to go get a super bowl so i'm grateful i'm blessed i'm excited for this opportunity because it's all in front of us and if we really take advantage of what we want to do and just execute how we can and you know we can get it done. >> since carson wentz went down there's been a lot of doubt as to whether or not foles can lead the eagles to that big game but it's been done. dick vermeil coached a backup quarterback to a super bowl in saint louis in 1999 and like he did with curt warner he has faith in foles, too. >> i think nick can play well. i think he can play well enough to beat atlanta falcons. i think he can play well enough to take us to the super bowl. he's not carson wentz. nor will he ever be. but at the top of his game he can do a few things maybe carson doesn't do as well as

he does and that's where he's got to be. >> not a bad endorsement. as far as the other quarterback in this game matt ryan was on the verge of winning it all last season until the falcons meltdown in the super bowl. ryan is looking for revenge from a year ago. he's been red hot in the playoffs but the penn charter grad has struggled in philly losing three of his four starts but he says he knows how to handle his return home. >> i'm used to it now. you know, i haven't played as long as i have, i understand that regardless of where we go where we play you have to, you know, you have to be at your very best every week. the one nice part is you see a lot of familiar faces friendly faces after the game which is always nice. >> all right. hockey now. after the four day bye they're back to work. they return to practice as they get set to face the devils in new jersey. flyers back on the ice in voorhees looking to pick up where they left off. flyers have won three straight. they're only two points out of the final wild card spot

heading in their date with the devils. >> having a good year this year but they're a team we're trying to catch for a playoff spot so we know what's at stake. we know which gears are -- teams are really good for us. >> the flyers have to focus beat the devils on the road and keep this thing going. >> thank you. in parkside delaware county it was a day filled with fun at parkside elementary school. representatives from the phillies stopped by to rhawn special assembly in the gym. the students competed in relay races that involved hula hoops and jump ropes. it was the students' reward for the performance in the phillies fitness program.

>> just about as wet as the law allows. >> yeah and there's more rain on the way. in addition to the rain today we also had a lot of fog. the action cam was taking a look in trenton over the delaware where you get the warm moist air over the cold river, it creates condensation, creates the fog and we had plenty of rain today and double scan live showing that it's not over yet. there are more bands of rain that will be working up from the south as we head through the evening hours so if you're heading out for this friday night you definitely do need the rain gear. the accuweather highlights show yes, more rain is on the way tonight and then tomorrow very early in the morning an arctic front moves through. behind it temperatures will plunge and then the winds pick up. it's windy and it's cold for the eagles game and what a contrast from today. 61 degrees in philadelphia.

allentown 65. that's a record high. reading currently 63. reading set a record high of 64. in trenton it's 63. notice cape may a little bit cooler. you get those winds off the ocean, currently 46 degrees. but it's getting a lot colder tomorrow. now storm tracker6 live double scan showing that we do have kind of a steady light to moderate rain over philadelphia right now. it's moving right up the northeast extension lansdale as well. all of this is kind of training up from the south. south jersey and delaware as well as we zoom in over there, you can see pretty solid band of rain. not as heavy as we had earlier today but there's plenty more on the way. so, tonight rain at times, some of it will be heavy. temperatures well after midnight dropping down into the 30's and 40's. most of this is liquid but future tracker showing the far north and western county, northern berks county, the lehigh valley, we could get a small ice accumulation. if you're heading up to the poconos tomorrow morning, could have a pretty substantial area of ice, more than a tenth of an inch could

cause a lot of problems. so future tracker timing it out. 8 o'clock tonight the rain is here right along i-95, heavy at times. 2 o'clock in the morning is when that arctic boundary starts to move in. could actually get a rumble of thunder with a clash of air masses. notice some of that ice developing in the poconos. that moves through the lehigh valley around 4 o'clock. 8 o'clock in the morning, it's out of here. sunshine is back by the afternoon but this is when the winds really pick up. so, the wind chill tracker showing as we head through the day tomorrow, by 11 o'clock, the wind chill already down to 20 and we've dropped down into the teens as we head late in the day so if you're heading on the eagles game, the good news is the rain's out of here. actually very little cloud cover. but it will be very cold. the first quarter, if we're lucky, could be above freezing. we actually may already be below freezing by then but the fourth quarter 27. but really the number you want to watch right there, we've got wind chills in the teens. that's the way it's going to feel. so bundle up. put a lot of layers on. sunday high pressure building

in. loads of sunshine. but brisk and cold. the afternoon high only 27. so, the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, what a change from 60's today, 30's tomorrow. that rain moving out early tomorrow morning. but sunshine is back on sunday. 27 degrees. on monday, it's martin luther king day of service, increasing clouds. it's cool, 32 degrees and tuesday tracking the chance of snow or flurries. the model is in disagreement whether it's just some snow showers or accumulating snow. at this point too early to tell. whatever happens on tuesday we cool off wednesday and thursday. wednesday could have some lingering flurries. 30 degrees. on thursday, the high only 28. and we start to climb out of it on friday, up to 38 degrees and indications are next weekend temperatures could actually be above normal but bundle up this weekend. be careful tonight with the rain. >> all right, cecily. teachers and students at a bucks county school spent part of their friday night together. it was challenge night at school lane charter school in bensalem. students challenged their
