from 15 to 20 below over the next several hursz. this is the visible shot. nothing going on all the cloud cover is over my shoulder. we should enjoy a nice bright sunny day. mostly sunny skies, breezy and cold with a high of 27 degrees but with the wind it feels no better than the teens just about all day long. the winds aren't going quite as strong as yesterday but still quite breezy from time to time. when i come back we'll talk about when this comes to an end and the possibility of a little snow by mid week. >> thank you chris for the update. the eagles season is alive and they are moving on in the nfl playoffs. they are just a little bit excited. as the birds win over the

the hashtag #6abcaction. >> new information this morning from the lawncrest section of philadelphia, a woman in critical condition after she was shot by her husband and police say her husband is dead after apparently shooting himself. police went to the house after getting reports of a shooting. >> officers arrived and found a female shot. she was outside of the house and had a gunshot wound to the chest. she was able to tell the police her husband shot her and he was still inside the house. >> police also tell us the house had an odor of gas and they called a fire department and a utility crew to turn it off. when they were finally able to enter the home they found the husband dead. a man was in the hospital this morning after he was shot

by philadelphia police. the action cam also at that scene late last night in the kensington section of the city. that man was shot was taken to the hospital. we are not sure about his condition. and so far investigators are not saying what led up to the shooting. >> police went running for cover in hawaii. panic set off by a terrible mistake. the public alert system warned residents of an incoming missile threat. but as it turns out, it was a false alarm. abc's brian clark has the story. >> reporter: 7 minutes after 8:00 in the morning, watching tv in hawaii. >> this is not a drill. take immediate measures. repeat detected a missile thread to hawaii. >> reporter: that alert pushing hawaiians into full-blown panic. people reportedly running from beaches and seeking shelter.

grocery stores closing. >> people crying and nobody really knew what to do. >> reporter: we were actually grocery shopping and we received an emergency alert message that stated ballistic missile thread inbound to hawaii, seek immediate shelter. this is not a drill. >> reporter: john aaron reported from a station on his honeymoon in hawaii. >> we woke up to an alert on our hotel room over the pa system told us there was an incoming missile threat. >> reporter: that alert lasting for a whopping 38 minutes until a second alert. >> once again that alert that came up for the ballistic missile has been canceled. it was fake. >> reporter: the governor of hawaii explaining what happened. >> i never was made emergency management which allowed this to

be sent. it was a procedure that occurred at the change of shift that they make sure to go through the system that is working and an employee pushed the wrong button. >> reporter: lawmakers deeply concern tweeting again, false alarm, what happened today is totally inexcusable. the whole state was terrified. officials vowing to fully investigate the incident to make sure this never happens again. brian clark, abc news, new york. >> president trump trying to change the subject when it comes to his vulgar comments about haitians and other african country. the presidents blaming democrats for failing to cut a deal on immigration. the president continues to face criticism for his profane comments. lawmakers in his own party have been forced to try to defend him or distance themselves from him. in a town haul meeting in iowa, chuck grassly said his job is to be a check on the president.

complex has been evacuated after a mass of ice broke free. authorities feared that the build-up of ice would create rapid flooding. residents of the complex were taken to a town hall as a precaution. that's so much ice up there in massachusetts. dangerous.

>> it's a bitter december across most of the eastern half of the united states. a thou, we're back to the deep freeze and another thaw by the weekend. temperatures are going all over the place the next few days. here's a shot looking at the commodore barry bridge. we have mainly quiet conditions, clear skies, no precipitations to worry about but it is cold. it's only 12 right now in allentown, 11 in reading, philadelphia 15, 16 in millville, 14 in trenton, cape may 18 degrees. look at the wind chills. -1 in allentown. -3 in reading. the poconos you currently have a wind chill of 15 below up there where there is a wind chill advisory in effect. frostbite can occur within 20 minutes or so up in the poconos only so you have to bundle up. 3 in millville with the wind and 2 degrees in atlantic city.

so that beautiful, warm weather that we had a couple of days ago, the 64 degrees on friday and technically the 61 that we hit yesterday a minute after midnight, that is long gone. today we're forecasting the high of only 27. the normal is 40, the low temperature is also the present temperature reading of 15 degrees. the satellite we're watching diving across the heart of the nation, that will move east and pick up moisture out of the gulf of the atlantic and deposit in our region in the form of a little light snow. it could be just enough to coat the ground or maybe we get an inch tuesday night into wednesday morning. today is mostly sunny, just cold, highs in the 20s. for minute increasing clouds as this system approaches from the west. you can see the clouds across the mid atlantic states and this cold high arctic high providing that cold air.

as we get into tuesday, you can see the light snow breaking out to the west, tuesday night that crosses the area and again it should provide us with a fresh coating or maybe an inch or so. the only way we see more is if this coastal low gets going and works its way up the eastern seaboard. there is a mold that shows that, but most of the other models have it developing too late and too far to the east to sock the region with anything significant. later today, mostly sunny skies, it's a really nice looking day, it's just icy cold out there. great day to stay indoors and watch the football games. for tomorrow increasing clouds, we'll start out with a little sunshine but those clouds quickly lower and thicken and here we go tuesday morning, we're fine. here comes that light snow overspreading the area from west to east getting into the immediate philadelphia area during the latter stages of the evening commute. it will continue through about the midnight hour or so. it's just this little band here, provided that the coastal low

breaking news to tell you about coming in from southwest philadelphia. philadelphia police have surrounded a house on the 2600 block, where a man bass barricaded himself after police say he shot his girlfriend. when officers got to the scene, the victim was outside with a gunshot injury to the arm. she told police her boyfriend shot her during an argument and is still inside that home. that woman is being treated at penn presbyterian hospital. we'll give you updates from this story as soon as we get them. and a pleasant good morning to you on this sunday morning. alicia vitarelli is here, nydia han is off. another very cold morning out there, chris sowers. >> the good news this should be the last of the very cold morning. actually tomorrow will be colder then it comes to an end. wind chill advisory comes to the poconos this morning until about 10:00 a.m. the current wind chill in mount pocono is 15

below. icy cold stuff, a quick reminder with wind chill values this low, forecast bite can occur within 20 minutes or so. reading -3, philadelphia about 1 degrees above zero. 4 above in trenton, and 5 is your wind chill value in cape may and throughout the afternoon you can see we're getting a little better by afternoon. 3:00 we're up to 18 degrees. and then we start pulling down again. 5:00, 16 and then by 7:00, 14 degrees. the good news is it's not going to be nearly as windy as what we saw yesterday. yesterday we had wind gusts 30-40 mile per hour range. early on and the winds subsided during the evening hours. today we're just calling it breezy and cold. 19 degrees by 10:00 a.m. by noon, 23. by 2:00, 25 and by 4:00, 26, forecasting a high of 27. keep in mind the normal high for this time of year is 40. so obviously we're no where near that. we'll be close to 30 for

>> there is some new information to tell you about this morni happening police are looking for the gunman who shot a man behind a west philadelphia building. the rear entrance of the salvation army building at 55th and arch street. police arrived after receiving 911 calls about a shooting. they found a victim lying on ground with at least one gunshot injury. he was taken to pan presbyterian hospital. there's no word on what led to the shooting. right now two people found dead inside of a home in bucks county and police are trying to figure out how this happened. officers arrived to the home on langhorne newtown road for a welfare check. they found the man and woman both dead inside. they say there are no signs of foul play but no word on a cause

of death. fire destroyed a mobile home in mill creek, delaware. this happened on the 5600 block of old capital trail around 7:30 last night. a 57-year-old man who lived there had to be treated for smoke inhalation but refused to go to the hospital. took crews about an hour to put the fire out. >> a driver was rescued after he became stranded in flash flooding. firefighters pulled the man from the rising water after his suv was swept away by the fast-moving waters on friday night. they used a boat to break out a back window, they pulled that man out to safety. luckily he wasn't injured. take a look at this aerial video of flooding in upstate new york. rain and snow melt has led to flooded roads caused stream to flow, add to the problem ice cover that is now melting. there are flood warnings through the area tomorrow morning because of rain and melting ice

and snow. a stretch of the busy 101 freeway is still shut down this morning in southern california. look at all the rocks piled up outside a home, a car caught up in the middle of it all. search and rescue authorities are still looking for five people who are missing in santa barbara county. 19 people are confirmed dead. >> happening this morning we are hearing from a delran, new jersey man who survived an explosion that rocked the home that he lived in. we first told you about this blast yesterday morning. action news reporter bob brooks now with the story. >> it was just the normal day. everything started out okay. >> reporter: and then for tim of delran, his normal day would change in seconds. the explosion has destroyed his home. most of his belongs are scattered but he's okay. >> around 10:00 i decided to go to bed. i just laid down on the coach

for about five minutes and that's when the explosion occurred. >> reporter: you can see how bad it was and how scary it was for him. he says the explosion originated in his basement. >> they think it was the gas line leading to the water heater. it took out the basement and then mushroomed up the stairs, through the back door, halfway across the backyard. took out the whole back of the house. the front windows on the lower level. >> reporter: he says he was thrown from his coach and when he was finally able to focus and look around. >> i looked down the floor and there was a fire. i was just trying to find a way out. there was smoke and debris and everything around and i'm going oh, god, oh, god trying to find my way out. >> reporter: he did. he climbed out through the living room window. it was blown out. he adds he has insurance but given the extent of the damage, he's not sure what he'll do, but just happy he's alive. >> reporter: do you feel lucky? i don't know if you're a

and temperatures promise to be much, much warmer for that game. as a matter of fact there's a couple of forecast models that actually have us in the 60s by next sunday. 15 degrees right now in philadelphia with a dew point of 1. winds are out of the north northwest at 13 miles per hour and that's giving us, you combine these two right here, giving us a wind chill of 1 degree above. the 24-hour temperature change is impressive. 21 degrees colder in allentown than it was the same time yesterday. 42 degrees colder in toms river and 24 degrees cold inner wilmington. the actual temperatures look like this. 14 in wilmington, 12 in reading, 3 in philadelphia and 16 in millville. icy cold stuff right here, right over the mid atlantic states, the great lakes and the northern portions of the ohio valley. what will happen is the an area of pressure right there it's going to cut to the northeast just like this. that will provide us with a

little light snow tuesday evening into wednesday morning. the question is will that coastal low get involved and throw some moisture back in. the models are kind of split on that. one model says that could happen, several others say no. by the time the coastal low gets going it's too far off to the east. so we'll see what happens as we get closer. future tracker 6 showing absolutely nothing for today. mostly sunny skies, just cold temperatures. tomorrow we start out with sun that fades and here comes tuesday. during the morning hours it's just cloudy and cold. temperatures more than likely in the teens and 20s and that light snow starts overspreading the area from west to east. it's late in the afternoon in the evening hours, it's 9:00 in the evening, that's when the first flakes are flying between 8:00 and 9:00 in the philadelphia area, the i-95 corridor. as we fast-forward this through the midnight hour, still snowing
