9:03 am

9:14 am
morning. it turns much warmer as we head into next weekend, another january thaw is on the way and i'll show you those numbers here in just a minute. in the meantime we're suffering. it's 14 in allentown, 13 in reading, 16 in trenton and philadelphia, 15 in wilmington and 15 degrees down there in dover. and of course when you factor in the winds, this is what it actually feels like to the exposed skin. it feels like 14 below right now in the poconos where you still have a wind chill advisory in effect. single digits for the i-95 corridor, actually single digits for everybody. the winds are still whipping they're not as intense as what we saw yesterday. yesterday we had gusts in that 30-40 mile per hour range. we can certainly handle 14 miles per hour but with temperatures as cold as they are, even this stings a little bit. so it's 14 miles per hour in trenton, 17 in dover, 15 in atlantic city and 13 miles per hour in cape may.
9:15 am
high pressure right here, it's pretty much why we're cloud free across the great lakes and mid atlantic this morning. if you go to the heartland of the nation, this is the next system that we're watching. it's a reinforcing shot of arctic air. it's going to be marching east over the next 48 hours. it will hit the coast and a secondary low will develop off the delmarva. with the system on tuesday, as we start to see a little light snow fly, will the coastal storm get involved with this. if it does we could see more than an inch of snow. so your surface maps look like this, cold arctic high in control for tomorrow. for tomorrow increasing clouds, stays cold with a high of 30 and for tuesday, here comes that system from the west. you can see the light snows breaking out to the west. there's the coastal low right there. now unfortunately this model doesn't go farther out than tuesday but others do and they take that coastal low like this. they don't bring it in, they bring it out. so that means we should see only
9:16 am
minor amounts of snow with the system assuming that it behaves itself and it does travel out to sea. so the close-up on future tracker looks pretty good. for tomorrow increasing clouds. we get into tuesday morning, it's cloudy for everybody, light snows across central pennsylvania so if you're traveling west into state college or harrisburg, you'll see lighter snows early on during the day but that light snow should hold off getting into the city until the evening hours and it will continue through about midnight and it should work its way out to sea. right now we're looking at a tuesday afternoon and evening event. just a period of light snow with minor accumulations. but again it all depends on whether or not the coastal low gets involved. if it does, accumulations will be a bit higher. forecasted highs today, mid to upper 20s, wind chills are in the teens. overnight tonight everybody dropping back down into the teens again. 9 in reading, 8 in allentown

9:25 am
for the poconos, wind chills below zero most of the time. let's fast forward into tuesday evening. here's the next system that we're watching right now. it's just south of winnipeg in southern canada. it comes racing across the mid atlantic states and you can see the coastal low starts develop here. it looks like all the pieces of the puzzle come together too far offshore to bring a significant amount of snow to the philadelphia area. if you're a snow lover, what you would want to see is this system here kind of dive down like this. the coastal low hugs the coast and then comes up. that's the snow track for us. it looks like this low will do one of these. so it's less snow for us. but it's something we're going to have to watch closely over the next few days. we all remember what happened with the last nor'easter. it does bear watching. >> the next time you have a problem on a flight, you could get some bonus miles right away.
