snow story but first "action news" reporter walter perez is standing by in makefield. walter what's the latest on the ice jams? >> reporter: well, jim, right now it's too dark to see it live but this part of the delaware river looks more like a glacier as flowing isis ice started to get jammed at the base of the calhoun bridge and also at the trenton makes bridge as well. when the delaware river freezes over it's a sight to see. joe aulett came to see it. >> this is totally amazing. >> reporter: it's nothing to smile about for people who live along the river. fortunately the ensuing flooding today has been relatively minor. people who live a few blocks inland say they don't become concerned until the nearby canal floods as well turning this part of lower makefield into its own little island. >> we live far enough away from it that we generally don't get flooded but we can

get trapped in because the access roads out of our neighborhood would be flooded. >> reporter: the problem that's developed here is quite simply an ice jam that forces the current to accumulate in isolated areas. the worst of it has been right here at the intersection of river road and ferry road in lower makefield. so, local officials are urging commuters to avoid the area. >> the river continues to be ice dammed along the calhoun street bridge so the river is unpredictable. the water could rise a little bit and even some ice flows could come up on the roadway. >> reporter: now, minor flooding in this area begins at 20 feet. right now it's right around 21 feet, maybe a little lower so obviously it could have been a lot worse. also, parts of route 29 across the river over in new jersey were shut down today as a precaution but this intersection of river road and ferry road in lower makefield remains closed at this hour. reporting live from lower makefield, walter perez channel6 "action news." jim. >> thank you, walter. meanwhile deldot is getting the jump on snow late

tomorrow by starting to brine major roads today. deldot trucks were laying down brine along lancaster pike in hockessin just about noon. authorities say they're not expecting significant accumulations, that's what they believe but they are worried about icy conditions. meteorologist adam joseph tracking the latest information from accuweather. adam, what's the story. >> the story is a quick little clipper system and you can see it in the ohio valley. when you take a look at this system you say this is not a lot there and there isn't but as this progresses through the east the front that comes through here tomorrow night early wednesday will spark an ocean storm. now we don't get the ocean storm but with everything coming together we do get a quick swath of snow here mainly tomorrow night into early wednesday morning. winter weather advisories will go into effect very early tomorrow morning at 5:30 a.m. and last through 10:00 a.m. on wednesday. that's a long period of time but it is not going to snow then tire time and that advisory is mainly northern

chester montgomery bucks county near exton green lane doylestown up through the lehigh valley and poconos. you will see some snow falling during the day tomorrow in the afternoon and evening but a lot of that won't stick until tomorrow night. in fact, future tracker shows 9:30 tomorrow morning, again, the system really not put together with that snow way to the north and west. even as we get into the evening hours tomorrow, we're starting to see that fire up with that that front to the north and west but as you can see the majority of our area, even at 7 o'clock tomorrow night is still precipitation free. there's the storm that starts to get going to our east. that's when the front comes through. this is 6:00 a.m. on wednesday morning, so that is the timing for the worst part of the storm and the worst commute. so, for tomorrow, it is cloudy for most of us during the day. in fact we're going to go near 40 degrees tomorrow. then there could be some light snow in the lehigh valley tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening accumulating maybe on the grassy surfaces but the steadiest comes in 11:00 p.m. tomorrow night through 7:00 a.m. on wednesday morning

those with season tickets are psyched for sunday night's big game against the vikings. in fact, some are already planning ahead hoping they, too, will be headed to minneapolis for a super bowl with the birds. the eagles pro shop was hopping on this holiday afternoon with fans getting all the gear ahead of sunday's nfc championship game right here at the linc. >> it is a very exciting time to be an eagles fan. even the four-year-old watched the game jumping up and down the whole time on saturday, so we're all very excited. >> reporter: even the smallest fans have predictions as to how this next game will go. >> it's going to be a back and forth game but the eagles are going to win at the end. >> it's hysterical. the level -- it's more than it's been in such a long time. >> reporter: craig akaquimby runs the green legion. he offers package. sunday's get together went on sale today. >> we had 110 people sign up in the first hour.

"action news" caught up with the governor-elect at home front nj in ewing. murphy thanked volunteers at the organization that helps homeless families and children. murphy will be sworn in as new jersey's 56th governor at a ceremony beginning at 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. michelle lawrence specifically chose martin luther king day to launch her campaign for congress. the democrat is challenging incumbent bob brady in the first congressional district. the former wells fargo executive says she looks

forward to bringing transformative change. lawrence says she is running on a platform based on service, opportunities and solutions. a dover police officer faces dui charges after being involved in a hit-and-run accident. police say 26-year-old keith boris left the scene of an accident on the 800 block of north dupont highway on thursday. investigators say he was found three hours later passed out in the driver's seat. his child was in the car but was not hurt. boris is on administrative leave without pay. coming up on "action news" tonight, tens of thousands honor dr. martin luther king's legacy by taking part in the largest day of service event in the philadelphia area. the eagles now have the vikings in their sights as they get ready for sunday's nfc championship game at the linc. adam. >> and a lot of changes to go through before that game. it is still chilly right now. wind chills in the 20's.

among those volunteering in line. also at girard college was "action news" reporter vernon odom. he describes a musical tribute there and then an annual ceremony at a certain bell on independence mall. >> ♪ >> reporter: philadelphia's orchestra packed the girard college chapel for it's 28th annual trick but to dr. king's legacy. the performance grows bigger each year. tickets more and more coveted. it wrapped up the day of service when was run from the campus armory a few hundred miles away. another staple of the king holiday philadelphia style the symbolic ringing of the liberty bell. one of the official ringers 95-year-old ruth wilson one of those thousands known as rosy the riveters thousands of women who went to work in factories and other jobs across the area that were nontraditional in the 40's to help the world two effort. prominent politicians used this platform to urge others

to look closely at dr. king's legacy. >> the sound that resonates off the bell today are meant to represent freedom justice and equal. moving forward we're going to need to ensure that dr. king's legacy is preserved and protected. >> dr. king, yes, he had a message of love, yes he had a message of inclusion but dr. king had a message of resistance. he resisted the power of his time that said that people -- that one group of people should be treated worse than others. that some should be rejected or not worth very much. not unlike what some people are saying today. >> reporter: the 33rd annual liberty bell ringing was followed by an even older king day tradition here. the 38th annual luncheon featuring awards for people considered drum majors for justice. that is the exact phrase for which dr. king wanted to be remembered. the annual luncheon and bell ringing at the liberty bell were the first activities of their type to be fully sanctioned by dr. king's widow coretta scott king.

>> ♪ >> we've got some snow on the way. how big will this thing be. >> it's a minor event but it's a big deal when you're talking about timing here for the wednesday morning commute. so as we go to the weather sent we take a look at the system which is still in the ohio and the tennessee valley. it is a clipper system and as you can clearly see, not a lot of precipitation with it. it's very fragmented. not a solid area of snow but it will regenerate as a new coastal storm develops. it won't benefit from the coastal storm but it will get that front to wipe through here early tomorrow night into wednesday morning. most of the accumulating snow will hold off until tomorrow

night, early on wednesday morning. it is a general one to 2 inches for most of us, a little more to the north and west, a little less than that to the south and east. that general one to 2 inches is for the heart of the delaware valley and then it's a snowy wednesday morning rush. that is the rush that we are really watching and then after the snow an extended january thaw will be setting in. as we take a look at some of the numbers, it's chilly. but not as cold as it was this weekend. 31 in philadelphia, 30 allentown, trenton. so right around that freezing point for the majority of the area. poconos at 18 and one of the other colder spots lancaster right now at 27 degrees. there's the system to the west. low pressure over the great lakes right now. this is the arctic front and this front will continue to slowly work to the south and east its almost in a holding pattern right now until that east coast storm redevelops just swing that front through. tonight a lot of clouds, not as cold as the last few nights, 22 in allentown, 26

philadelphia, 25 in millville and even below freezing for the shore as well as southern parts of delaware. as we go into our tuesday, really not bad for the majority of us. we're going to go into the low 40's in the afternoon. a lot of clouds. not too chilly and we look at hour by hour, you don't see any snow falling. this is for the general philadelphia area even through 7 o'clock tomorrow evening. future tracker six clock tomorrow evening you can see the snow to the north and west. could be snowing at times lightly allentown reading poconos in the afternoon having a hard time accumulating during the day. at midnight it's still holding there to the north and west but you can start to see that coastal storm developing off to our north and east and that's when the snow can collapse in here wednesday 5:30 a.m., snowing across the majority of the area during that morning rush. 9:30 wednesday morning it's ending north and west, still snowing south and east and by 5 o'clock in the afternoon on wednesday, the sunshine even
