moving into the try state area the lehigh valley and burkes county may get hit the hardest but much of the region will have to cope with a wintry mix. tuesday night the big story on action news tonight the approach of our next bat with old man winter penn dot getting the salt trucks ready for action and action reporter annie mccormick is life in norris town and then the metrologist cecily tynan and accuweather cecily. >> jim this is going to be a brush with some snow, some rain, there are a few things really counting against this storm from being a big snow maker first of all a lot of dry air and if you look at this you can see it breaking up in northern virginia and also running into some relatively warm temperatures, we have temperatures above freezing in most of our viewing area so the moisture has finally started to move east but you will notice near malvern and pottstown it's starting as rain not snow in reading it's been snowing for

hours lightly but even there temperatures are marginal so a lot of that is actually melting as it's hitting the ground. it's 32 in reading marginal for snow allentown 32 lancaster 32, philadelphia though it's pretty warm, it's 38 degrees and in cape may it's 40 degrees so this means as it moves in a lot of it will be rain in philadelphia. so we do have that winter weather advisory, it's now in effect until 7:00 wednesday morning for areas north and west of the pennsylvania turnpike still that winter storm warning in effect for the poconos future tracker timing it out around 2:00 this moisture will be moving into the i-95 corridor but notice it's coming in the form of rain, by 5:00 some snow across the interior south jersey out of here by about 8:30 so the morning commute and north suburbs it will be snowy and philadelphia, new jersey and delaware a few slick spots and i made big changes to the expected snowfall map and have that in the seven-day forecast jim.

>> all right cecily and let's go live to annie mccormick to the penn dot yard in norris towns and the trucks are loaded and have there been deployment to major arteries in the area? >> reporter: jim they already pretreated roadways and they are out around the area, they have such a big area to cover and this time of year when you hear about any type of precipitation during the morning rush hour penn dot wants to be prepared. they will have those trucks patrolling the roadways overnight through the morning. >> we are planning accordingly, we are using all our trucks today, that is 450 trucks. >> reporter: penn dot spent today preparing for the wintry mix expected during the morning rush hour. >> we were able to pretreat the highways starting about midnight and then after the morning rush our guys came back. >> reporter: the 24/7 command center will monitor the nearly 3,000 miles of roadway penn dot is responsible for 40,000 tons of salt is still available. trucks started loading up

midday. >> i'm expecting there is going to be snow tomorrow and i'm getting prepared for it. >> reporter: caught up with people getting ready and some who are all set. >> i was pretty well prepared for the last storm and i'm hoping we don't get too much tomorrow. >> reporter: inside the lows people like karen mataeo are up grading her shovel failed her two weeks ago and the manager here says they are filling the shelves to meet the need. >> we have one but it's not good, it's plastic so it doesn't really pick up anything. >> we do have, in fact, everything out, a lot of shovels and a bunch of extra snow blowers just to prepare for it and see what we can sell. >> reporter: and this district of penn dot covers five counties that is a big area and you heard cecily say even the accumulations could change, there is still a lot of areas they have to cover and for that reason they are urging any commuters in the morning to xhek 511pa which is an app and also go to 511pa.com that way you

know if there are plow trucks this the area and where you should go for your morning commute, for now reporting live in norris town annie mccormick channel six and jim back to you. >> thank you and the drone took flight in afternoon to scan the ice jam on the delaware river next to the bridge and caused flooding yesterday in lower makefield but was flowing today. chopper six followed along as the coast guard ice breaker navigated the delaware river today to try and break up some of those chunks and clear a passage for shipping traffic. the philadelphia streets department plans to have 70 trucks available overnight as the storm comes through with 40,000 tons of salt available, no briming was done and authorities think salting and plowing if necessary will be enough. but many philadelphia residents are complaining about a backlog of trash collection from earlier january snowstorms compounded by another delayed pick up from the holiday yesterday.

has been dry and double scan showing moisture is gradually moving our way, a very slow process we have the coastal low but having trouble linking up with the cold front and also if you look across parts of northern virginia there is dry air and fighting a few basically environmental problems, dry air and pretty warm temperatures so the accuweather highlights would show you moisture is slowly moving east, it's running into some warmer air so it's beginning as a mixture of rain and snow the wednesday morning commute will be slick in many places and once we get after this we have an extended thaw heading our way and will really crank up over the weekend double scan live showing finally beginning to see light precipitation breaking out west of philadelphia but again temperatures are very marginal, doylestown it's really starting as rain and a little bit of a mixture of some rain and sleet in malvern and you can see how most of the movement is up to the north so it's really taking

a while moving to the east and the temperature in philadelphia has actually gone up a degree over the past hour and you see this and it's 39 and cape may it's 40 allentown and reading and lancaster and the poconos the only areas right now at or below freezing so future tracker timing it out by 2:00 we should get the moisture over i-95 but again starting as some rain, it fills in a bit by 5:00 into interior south jersey but notice we are getting some drier air working in, that limits accumulation by 9:00, it's out of here by the afternoon we actually see some sunshine so expected snow totals really dropping them down. south jersey most of delaware it's kind of a nonevent, the i-95 corridor calling for a coating perhaps an inch i'm leaning to an inch of grassy coating if you get north of west chester and doyles town and north of quaker town this is where 1-2" will fall and the
