trains and they will come more frequently. >> all right, time now for a check of the game day forecast from accuweather. >> after a few brutal weeks, winter is loosening its grip just in time for the big game. let's go to meteorologist melissa magee who is in for adam today at the "action news" big board and we're hoping for a perfect football day come sunday, melissa. >> sharrie looks like these numbers will be rebounding as we head into our weekend and today we were on our way up. wednesday we had a high temperature of 33. yesterday's high 36 and so far in philadelphia today coming in at 45 degrees, well above the average of 40 degrees this time of year. as we look at the numbers across the midatlantic, it's still milder off to the south. 47 washington, d.c., 54 in richmond, virginia and 53 degrees in roanoke, virginia so we will be tapping into that southwesterly wind as we head into the eastbound. here's the reason why. satellite6 along with action radar showing you we've got a mostly clear sky thanks to this dominating ridge of high

area. >> all right, time now for the "action news" traffic report. >> matt pelman in the "action news" traffic center friday night. how we looking out there matt. >> exciting times around here that's for sure and unfortunately some excitement here on the roads. we don't like this kind of excitement, rick and sharrie. this is chester county, 202 northbound side between boot road and the route 30 bypass. started with emergency construction earlier this afternoon and then in the work zone there was an accident. looks like a pretty serious crash with an ambulance and fire truck here on the scene. penndot and police are out here as well and northbound traffic coming away from west chester is just barely squeezing by on the right side of the roadway here approaching the route 30 bypass. so, as you come northbound, i would stay local through west chester on 322 or go over to 352, northbound 202 not where you want to be. you could also use the northbound side of the blue route, 476. had a southbound crash by villanova but that's all off to the side now. farther north you're seeing some slowing now approaching the mid-county tolls and

>> ♪ >> developing now in washington, shutdown showdown with a midnight deadline looming in the budget battle president trump invited the top senate democrat for a meeting at the white house. a senate minority leader chuck schumer says he and the president made "some progress this afternoon" but adds that there are still a number of disagreements. the meeting in the oval office lasted more than an hour. still no real agreement has been made as the midnight deadline for a new spending bill inches closer. well, we just learned this afternoon that the supreme court will hear a case on president trump's travel ban. the justices will decide the legality of preventing people from six countries where the population is majority muslim. arguments are set to start in april and a ruling should come by late june. >> prosecutors announced today they will seek a retrial of new jersey u.s. senator bob

menendez. the democrat's first trial ended ended in a hung jury. he was accused in a bribery scheme involving a long time friend in florida. the senator allegedly traded political favors for gift and campaign donations. the senator's office released a statement saying he fully expects to be vindicated again. investigators are trying to piece together the owens sequence of events that led to a u.s. marshall being killed in harrisburg by a philadelphia man. christopher hill was serving an arrest warrant on a woman when gunfire erupted. officers shot kevin sturgis. there were several warrants out for his arrest in philadelphia. governor wolf order the commonwealth flag to fly at half star in honor of deputy hill. >> firefighters battled a stubborn house fire in frankford. chopper6 hd was overhead as smoke was pouring from the

home. crews had ladders stretched to the roof and other firefighters were fighting the flames from the top of neighboring homes. still no reports of any injuries in all of that. well, a large 30-foot sinkhole opened up this afternoon in the middle of the fishtown section of philadelphia. wow. look at the video. crews blocked off the 2200 block of taggert street and you can see the road caved in and a large part of the sidewalk as well. people living in six homes have been evacuated. no word yet as to what caused this mess. >> wow. well, the panel tasked with creating philadelphia's new board of education met for the first time. the group started its work at city hall by presenting legal requirements for board membership. it outlined a nomination process and ethics guidance ford candidates. the school district was returned to local governance after 16 years of state control through the school reform commission.

a six-year-old from bristol signed a letter of intent with the temple men's basketball team. mason wyckoff happily signed his name on the line while sitting next to head coach fran dunphy. the coach says it's an exciting day for the time and they're excited to have the new 4-foot two player. mason suffers from common variable immune deficiency and was teamed up with temple through team impact. coach dunphy did put the new guy on the spot and asked him about his favorite player. >> by the way you got a favorite? oh. who is it? >> damien? damien moore oh, boy. >> all right. why not. as if today couldn't get any better, moore presented mason with his very own jersey. the six-year-old pretended to faint right there. >> mason having a great day there. good for him. turning to our forecast, melissa is back and it's friday and the temperature is heading up. >> yeah, that's right and our spirits are high. >> yes.

>> as we head into our weekend guys its all about the temperatures and the eagles too. as we walk over to the weather center as we're talking about the game at the linc as they take on the vikings in the nfc championship, the game kicking off at 6:40 in the evening its going to be pretty good for the start of that game. partly cloudy sky, winds out of the southwest at three to 6 miles per hour. 6 o'clock a temperature of 44. and 10 o'clock sunday night we've got a number coming in at 42 degrees. not bad on our friday. north and west in slatington and kutztown 37, lake had harmo. down in new jersey it's 42 in surf city, 40 for ewing and browns mills. 42 for vineland and fortescue the upper 40's for areas in delaware. satellite6 along with action radar showing you we've got a mostly clear sky thanks to a dominating ridge of high pressure so we stay dry and quiet as we head through the rest of tonight.

philadelphia and officials are getting ready right now. they spent the day putting up barricades outside the stadium and making plans to move vehicles from a portion of broad street. from the sports complex to south street, those cars must be out of the way by 2:00 p.m. sunday or risk being taken away. linc authorities are also reminding people not to bring in purses or back packs, only clear plastic bags no larger than 12-inches by 6-inches will be allowed in. >> this is an exciting time for eagles fans and philadelphia police want to make sure everyone can celebrate safely this weekend. monica malpass is live in the news room with those details coming up tonight. hi, monica. >> that's right. you remember the last time that a major team in philadelphia won a major sports championships the phillies in 2008 of course the police department is taking what they learned since then and using some new strategies. they want to make sure revelers can enjoy themselves but do it respectfully. business owners and residents are also concerned as well. now, if you're lucky enough to

this fixed? a lot of conspiracies this afternoon and yet no official word from the nfl or any explanations on this one but of course a lot of questions. so you know we've been telling you about this dangerous and disturbing viral trend where people have been eating laundry detergent pods while recording it. well, a brooklyn pizzeria is offering a way safer and no doubt more delicious alternative. vinnie's pizzeria in williamsburg is cooking paid pods. they tweeted we're concerned about the youth or as many would say youts they're eating laundry pods and they're pied pods answer stuffed with cheese and pepperoni topped with colorful cheese that resembles a detergent pod which is edible and not soap which you should not eat. pizza yes, soap no. got it. pet lovers we know you talk to

>> oh, yes, i think we should talk about that which is rarely a treat which is the schuylkill expressway or at least for the birds we are dogged with delays much of the morning because of a major accident on the eastbound side. travel time approached triple digits this morning on the eastbound schuylkill so 41 minutes this afternoon isn't great but it's a whole lot better than what we saw this morning. however, ideally those numbers should be reversed. should be a 14 minute ride not a 41 minute ride. live here at the conshohocken curve it's busy in both directions but at this point just volume along 76. have plenty of it on 95, too. speeds in the teens northbound by pens landing. a water main break on the westbound side of 38 approaching 130 but most of the activity with it is confined to the shoulder. crash on the blue route near villanova. that's gone. northbound backing up heading towards the pennsylvania turnpike. you know why? it's that earlier overturned truck eastbound on the off ramp to fort washington but the good news is that truck is now gone. everything's reopened and

eagles game at the linc on sunday. we'll talk about that. four straight days though are headed our way with temperatures in the 50's and then we're tracking a soaking rain as we get into tuesday morning. right now in the city it's 45. 46 in wilmington, 38 in allentown, 39 in reading. down in cape may 43. the upper 40's in dover and 40 degrees at the coast in beach haven. here's the big picture looking at satellite6 along with action radar it's dry across much of the eastern half of the u.s. thanks to this dominating ridge of high pressure. cloud cover across much of this region so all of the unsettled weather right now up to our north and also to the south of us. so for the rest of tonight it is mostly clear not as chilly tonight as it has been the last two nights. we'll dip down to 24 in the suburbs and 30 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low with that west to southwesterly wind. fast forward into the start of our weekend on saturday, sunshine, a few clouds tomorrow but temperatures in philadelphia a good 14 degrees above average. we're calling for a high
