>> go eagles! >> fly eagles fly. >> eagles fans are pumped, excited and ready for a win. the birds take to the field tonight for the nfc championship game. >> security measures go into effect this afternoon on a part of police efforts to keep everyone safe as the eagles hopefully celebrate a wig bin tonight. >> plus the linc is prepped and ready to go. temperatures will be ideal. >> are you ready for some football? we are now just 9.5 hours and counting from the nfc championship game. >> the eagles are just one win away from heading back to the super bowl in more than a decade. to say the fans are excited that's an understatement. kickoff at 6:40. the birds have been prepping all week long for this very moment. they need to notch one more win

at home and they will be headed to the super bowl. the entire region will no-doubt explode in excitement if we should say when it happens. >> our meteorologist chris sowers has the favorable weather conditions, bob brooks is with tailgatetors at fdr park and jeff chirico has huge security measures into place. let's begin with chris. the birds won't have to battle the cold. >> no they most certainly will not. temperatures are already warmer than they were all of last weekend when we had the eagles taking on the falcons. that temperature during game time was somewhere below 32 degrees with wind chills in the teens. it's already 40 in allentown, 40 for cape may, atlantic city 41 and wilmington is showing 35. we're going way up from there with a lot of sunshine to start or at least some sun, filtered with an increase in clouds as the day wears on. you do see rain popping up here

trying to press forward into the virginias. all of this activity stays out to the west. this should be a dry game. mainly cloudy conditions. 52 degrees is the forecasted high coming off of yesterday's 57. however there's still going to be a little bit of a breeze out of the south southwest very light 5-10 miles per hour but with temperatures just getting into the 50s, that should be good enough to put the feels-like numbers in the upper 40s. 52 for the high, right now it feels like 32. getting closer to game time the feels-like temperatures will be down into the low 40s. again weather conditions look favorable for tonight's game. when i come back we're going to talk about the chance of rain when we get into the workweek and more balmy temperatures by next weekend. >> fans are already gathering to cheer on the eagles. >> indeed they are. action news reporter bob brooks has been at fdr park all morning

where tailgaters have been gathering. bob, what does it look like right now? >> reporter: nydia and gray, i'll tell you what. it's warming up out here. it's going to be a great day for tailgating. i've been doing stories about the game all week. this city is excited. behind me is a look at fdr park. there's a few people trickling in. it's still early. the game doesn't start until 6:40. that man showed up at fdr park at 6:00 in the morning to make sure he got a spot. we spoke with him. let's take a listen. do you think it's a little crazy to be out here at 6:00 a.m.? >> no. this is what i have to do. i'm the spotter for my group and i have to get the spot. >> reporter: the winner of the first run to show up for tailgating waiting at the gate before the sun came up at 6:00 a.m. will vikings fans be welcomed? >> uls. everybody is welcomed. that's a misnomer in

philadelphia sports. everybody is welcome. >> reporter: jim says he's tailgated and watched a lot of eagles game this season. his prediction is simple. >> i've been watching the season all season. been out to l.a., a couple of different places to see him. and i'm very confident they're going to keep it home and we're going to be in the super bowl. >> reporter: the gates opened around 8:00, the woman working it says she can't wait to see the park fill up one last time for the biggest game of the year so far. >> you've got to be here to see it. >> yes. feel it. >> reporter: we talked to her at 8:00 sharp. that's kind of early. but we all know an on nfc championship game day it's never too early for an eagles cheer. >> e-a-g-l-e-s! >> you see a couple more suvs lined up. they're saving their spots for more tips on tailgating down

here. the wells fargo lots are the ones to open up next at 11:30. citizens bank park, those lots open up at 3:30 and the tail gates will be in full effect. bob brooks, channel 6 action news. gray? >> a nice green turtle neck, by the way. >> some parking restrictions that you need to know of ahead of tonight's big game beginning at 2:00 this afternoon, these cars will need to be removed from broad street. the city placing flyers on cars. you need to move the cars. parking will be prohibited from south street to the stadium complex and that includes the northbound and southbound median areas. >> those parking restrictions are just part of major security measures being taken by philadelphia police. jeff chirico joins us live with details on that. we hope everyone stays safe

tonight. >> reporter: absolutely. so do police. now of course the eagles aren't the only ones gearing up for game day. this is a big day for philadelphia police. they are asking folks to play it smart. as philly inflates with eagles pride, security is on the mind of residents and police alike. although 15 miles from the stadium, the intersection has been identify by police as a potential hot spot for game night celebrations. new london pizza will be open and hoping any fans that may spill out on to the streets after the game will be respectful. >> we're taking the precaution because of all the people being out tomorrow and we're going to make sure everything is, you know, shut down but still running. but for safety precautions. >> reporter: police have instituted a parking ban around frankfort and cotman.

these visitors from minnesota say they've noticed the extra security. >> we've seen a lotf police. >> reporter: the deputy police commissioner asks fans to enjoy the day but be smart. >> it's simple. you don't want to hurt other people, damage property. you had don't want to -- you don't want to get hurt yourself. >> reporter: some good advice. and of course have fun. septa police say the best way to get there is using the broad street line. they have added extra trains to make it a quick in and out. jeff chirico, channel 6 action news. >> jeff, thank you. septa says it's ready to help you get to the game. you can buy a special $4 pass. there will be added cars on the trains and they will come more

the highway should be open to traffic. the time now is 9:12. republican pennsylvania congressman patrick meehan is the subject of a new investigation by the house ethics committee. paul ryan ordered that investigation after the new york times reported that meehan used thousands of dollars of taxpayer money to settle a sexual harassment allegation. now according to the times, an aide accused meehan of making unwanted romantic advances towards her. his office released a statement denying those allegations. meehan is also being removed

from his position on the ethics committee. the federal government shutdown is ending its second day with no end in sight. each side of the aisle blaming the other. democrats have drown a line in the sand for a funding measure that includes a fix for the 800,000 undocumented immigrants brought to the u.s. as children. meanwhile a number of iconic landmarks including the statue of liberty closed while lawmakers fight over this budget. >> millions of people took to the streets in the second women's march. from washington, d.c. to los angeles and in small towns and cities, women and the men and children who support them marched for women's rights, promoted voting and protested president trump. the president took to twitter to respond to the events saying quote get out there now to celebrate historic milestones. lowest female unemployment in 18 years. here in philadelphia thousands of people took part in the march along the ben franklin

parkway. those taking part say the focus of this year's march is the upcoming election. >> time now 9:14. there's a big game tonight. meteorologist chris sowers with the forecast. >> and nobody will be protesting this forecast. it looks really nice. let's head over to the weather center and show you the forecast for the nfc championship game. 6:40 start time at the linc, looks really, really nice especially compared to the divisional round against the atlanta falcons when wind chills were stuck in the mid teens. this is going to be a completely different story. a light breeze out of the south southwest at 46 miles per hour. 46 degrees by 6:00 p.m. and coming off of a very comfortable high today of 52. so not too shabby. especially considering the time of year. 38 degrees right now in philadelphia with a dew point of 31. winds are light out of the southwest at 6 miles per hour and we currently have a wind chill in philadelphia of 33. there's that 38.

look at the 40s popping up to the north. reading and allentown 40. dover 41, millville 38 and atlantic city checking in at 41. there's some spritz and sprinkles out to the west but that activity will stay far away from lincoln financial field today clouds increasing during the afternoon. we talked about this yesterday, the arctic front is up here to the north. this is where the cold air is, the real brutal stuff, all of that is up through here in the southern provinces of canada. if anything this starts to lift even farther to the north as that area of low pressure approaches from the west. winds will strengthen out of the southwest and that means mild conditions not only for today and tomorrow, but for tuesday as well with high temperatures getting close to 60 degrees. future tracker 6 for the tailgaters later on this afternoon, looks nice, clouds and sun mixed. 6:30, game time, cloudy conditions it's dry. once again temperatures in the

upper 40s and just as everybody is heading home from the linc, cloudy skies, a couple of sprinkles well north getting into the poconos, north portions of pennsylvania, perhaps the cats kills, that's where all the showers will be. everybody else looks like the weather will be okay. as we head into monday, maybe we start out with a little patchy drizzle and it's clouds breaking for some sunshine only to see the clouds increase again monday night and that sets up tuesday. this is the only system that we're watching all week long. it's pretty potent cold front. gets in here right around 1:00, 2:00 in the afternoon. you can see the yellows the oranges and reds line up along that front which would indicate perhaps a rumble or two of thunder and winds will shift out of the northwest and we cool down for wednesday, thursday and friday. rainfall totals aren't too impressive with the bulk falling tuesday morning. forecast for today, sun and clouds, mild, nice day. 52 degrees is the forecasted high with the slightest breeze

out of the west southwest at 5-10. going hour by hour, whatever sun you see today it's going to be early with clouds lowering and thickening during the day. and overnight tonight get a load of these numbers. these are the normal highs for this time of the year and theets are going for overnight lows tonight. mostly cloudy and mild, 36 degrees places like reading and allentown. the exclusive accweather 7-day forecast. this will be four straight days in the 50s. increasing clouds monday, 56. tuesday almost 60. for now we'll post 59 with periods of rain especially early on. cool by mid week, 42 wednesday, thursday and friday 40 and we jump back up again next weekend. 56 and next saturday looks like 54 or 56. >> chris, thank you. a party on the deck for one of america's founding fathers, benjamin franklin.

temperatures across the mid atlantic are feeling mild. 38 for philadelphia and dc, pittsburgh is already in the 40s, not too bad out there, 42. and sire cues 29, the real art particular air is north of the u.s. canadian border where it will stay over the next several days. jersey shore 52 degrees. not too bad you got up to 55 yesterday. increasing clouds, philadelphia 52 coming off of yesterday's 57. and for the poconos a little bit cooler. 42 degrees the forecasted high with more clouds than sun. but even for them, that's pretty nice considering the time of year. for the eagles game later this evening, 6:40 start time, temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. you're still going to need a coat, but you can leave the scarf, gloves, hat at home. it will stay dry, all of that

prediction for tonight's big game, even the birds most holiest of fans. >> you know our defense is going to come out with some big plays. the big d will put the chase on case. our offensive line. they've got to dig their heels in. >> i love her. sister virginia. she shared her take with us on the seem this season. she and her fellow sisters even wore the dog masks. they are predicting the eagles will win over the vikings. she says the final score will be 16-13. and john, a librarian at rutgers camden has written several history books. he says the vikings and eagles are evenly matched but he says the birds will take the win fueled in part by the

>> just about 9:30. this is game day. the eagles hit the field in just nine hours. they will face the vikings in the nfc championship game. >> the birds head coach doug pederson has been preparing the team all week long for this all-important game. as you know, a win tonight sends the eagles to a super bowl. it will mark pederson's first as the head coach and the first for the eagles in more than ten years. and now it's time to get the game day forecast from meteorologist chris sowers. it is a good one, chris. >> it looks really, really nice. especially compared to last week during the divisional round when we had wind chills in the teens. this is looking a whole lot better. we'll see cloudy conditions of the the clouds are going to increase as the day wears on, but temperature-wise, about 52 degrees for today's high. actually around the whole region, look at the numbers here. 52 for trenton and philadelphia, 50 in lancaster, 50 in toms

river, 51 for millville and dover and cape may 45 degrees. increasing clouds, it's going to stay on the mild side. whatever sunshine we see it's going to be early and the clouds lower and thicken as the day wears on. by 3:00, 51. by 5:00 same thing and by 7:00, a cloudy sky and 48 degrees. you can see here we kind of got over the hump by thursday. we had that real cold air monday, tuesday and wednesday. thursday we started to turn the corner. 46 friday. yesterday 57 and today we're forecasting 52. and as we look at the numbers across the lower 48, there's winter right there, it's all the way up into southern canada. the lower 48 enjoying mild stuff right now. 50 degrees already in wichita, 65 in dallas, 57 in memphis and even when old man winter tries to make a comeback later this week, for the most part temperatures are seasonable. we're not looking at anything to terribly cold as it will stay to

the north and to the west across the high plains. even the cooldown that arrives wednesday, thursday and friday, we're still talking about temperatures in the 40s. guys? >> chris, thank you. there are parking restrictions you need to know about ahead of the big game. beginning at 2:00 this afternoon, these cars will need to be removed from broad street. last night the city put flyers on the cars warning drivers to remove those cars. let's go to jeff chirico in mayfair. police taking things seriously for the game. >> reporter: that's right, nydia. the eagles aren't the only ones preparing for game day. we are 15 miles from the stadium, but this has been identified as a potential hot spot for perhaps impromptu celebrations. now a 12-hour parking ban goes into effect at 3:00 this afternoon. the concern is that fans will spill out on to the streets as they did during the '08 world series. businesses around here are taking precautions and

philadelphia and septa police are beefing up presences around the city and they will be monitoring the celebrations closely. >> surveillance systems and our cameras will be very vigilant in response. >> you don't want to hurt other people, damage property. you don't want to get hurt yourself. >> reporter: if you are heading to the game, septa police suggest that you take the broad street line. they say they are adding extra trains to that route in order to get you in and out of the stadium complex. we are reporting live in mayfair, jeff chirico, channel 6 action news. >> thank you for the update. septa says it is ready to help you get to the big game tonight. you can purchase a special $4 pass to get to and from the game on the broad street subway line. there will be added cars on the trains and they will come more fracly. patco also expanding its weekend

the face. it happened during an argument inside an american legion post. police were called to south 24th and oregon avenue about 1:30 this morning. they say the argument began inside of the men's room. the victim was run to penn presbyterian where he is listed in critical condition. so far no arrests have been made. >> the taliban is claiming responsibility for an attack on an afghan hotel that has killed six people. afghan security forces say one of the victims is a foreigner but they did not say from what country. security forces killed gunman inside of the hotel. the taliban says there were five gun men and a news agency reported shooting continued after afghan had continued. an interior ministry official says 153 people including 31 foreigners were rescued from the hotel. today vice president mike

pence met with a king. he was asked by the vice president to rebuild trust and confidence after the trump administration's recent decision to designate jerusalem as israel's capital. people gathered outside to protest that decision and the vice president's visit. >> north korea's inspection team has arrived in south korea to review the winter olympic facilities. north korea will send 22 athletes to compete in three sports in the winter olympics in south korea and north and south korea will march together at the opening ceremony on february 9th. the two countries will also fill a ice hooky team. >> 9:38 on this sunday morning. a group of nonprofit organizations came together this weekend to help sheriff's deputy one month after their devastating loss. a fundraiser was held last night.

sheriff's office has found the body of a woman who had been missing. the woman has been identified as

a 28-year-old woman. yesterday morning a k9 team found her body. the number dead from the mud slides 21. two more people are still missing. a woman has died after falling several decks below on a carnival cruise ship. the incident happened early friday morning. the medical team responded quickly but was unable to save the woman. the woman's name has not been released. >> sorry to tell you this, but singer ed sheeran says he's engaged. he broke the news on his instagram account. he posted a picture of him and his fiancee and he says they are very happy and so are their cats. he said last year she inspired his song "perfect" and that song number one on the billboard hot

100 charts. >> whatever allows him to keep cranking out the hits. >> you guys are feeling my pain. >> let's look outside. we are totally heartbroken, gray. that's our city hall camera and it looks pretty nice out there this morning, the clouds are quickly rolling in but temperatures are nice and mild. it's not half as cold as it was for that divisional round game where we were taking on the atlanta falcons. it should be a nice day overall. 57. today we are forecasting a high of 52 and you can see where that stacks up against the normal. the normal is 40. so we're a good 12 degrees above average. started out at 31 degrees this morning and now we're climbing. 48 in philadelphia, 40s to the north. 43 in trenton, 41 in at tant particular city and 42 in cape may. this is where the arctic boundary is and it will be lifting to the north slowly but surely and if anything we're

going to get warmer here tomorrow and tuesday. tuesday we could make a run at 60 degrees as this area of low pressure, this is a huge snowstorm blasting the front range of the rockies, we'll see a swath of 8-12 inches of snow like this. that low will cut into the great lakes and that will pour that warm air in as we get into monday and tuesday. tuesday's high temperatures somewhere between 57 and 60 degrees. there you go. the arctic boundaries to the north, increasing clouds today as that system gets a little bit closer but very, very mild and as we head into monday, lots of clouds around with peeks of sun. the system staying to the north, the arctic is up here. this is all 50s and 60 and the farther south you go into florida, the 70s start popping up. this is a nice pocket of warm air and by tuesday it gets even warmer. wednesday this front slides through and puts an end to the party. you'll see on the 7-day forecast, even when the cold air

slides through and we cool down, temperatures are seasonable. here's future tracker 6. increasing clouds as the day wears on. they lower and thicken, 6:30, game time it's just cloudy out there. showers are popping up well north of the city and we're talking about maybe perhaps a little spritz or sprinkle into the lehigh valley, the poconos and points north and east as we get into monday starting out with a combination of sun and clouds, those clouds quickly role in again and tuesday sets up this front here and it could be some heavier showers, maybe a quick-hitting thunderstorm. once that pushes through winds will shift out of the northwest. 52 today, allentown 48. millville 51, between ton 52, dover 52 and cape may 46. for the eagles game, tailgaters we're seeing temperatures in the 40s and low 50s and for the game rather cloudy with a south southwestly breeze, look at the

numbers. 49 degrees first quarter temperature and by the fourth quarter temperature we're book down to 44. fourth quarter last week it was 26 about a wind chill of 16. a lot of these numbers warmer than the normal high for this time of the year. dover and paper may also 40 degrees. the 7-day forecast. four days of 50s. yesterday 57, today 52. tomorrow 56 and tuesday, periods of rain but we're up to 59. then the front slams through, wednesday, thursday and friday. cooler days here but they're all above average. 42, 40 and 40. and then saturday and sunday next weekend we start bouncing back up again. 56 degrees saturday and it looks pretty much like a 56 or 55, somewhere around there for next sunday as well. nice january thaw. >> look what i have here. >> this is a present from my son. he let me borrow it today. he walked into the master

of the eagles nfc championship game. chris sowers has the weather conditions, and jeff chirico has huge security measures going into place. let's begin with kris. at least the birds won't have to battle the bitter cold. >> no, unlike last week. this weekend we're talking about temperatures in the 40s and gray we want two more wins. we want to win the super bowl this time around. 45 degrees already in allentown. 44 in reading, philadelphia 42. millville 46. trenton 46. and we have some 50s popping up in atlantic city. cape may 44 and dover 43. satellite and radar, we're looking at clear conditions for the most part, although there are a couple of spritz and sprinkles, showers out to the west. all of that stay to the west going to hit a brick wall in the appalachian mountains. monday night and tuesday is a

different story. today it will stay dry. increasing clouds, tt high 52 degrees. we're a good 12 degrees above average although a little bit cooler compared to yesterday's 57. we still have a breeze out of the south southwest and that will put feels-like temperatures in the upper 40s. plan for 52 degrees for the high, but again it will feel just a little cooler than that with the wind. by 5:00 with the breeze down to 46 degrees. looking ahead here, increasing clouds today starting out with a little bit of sunshine but it's generally cloudy by afternoon. temperatures in the 50s not just today but for tomorrow and tuesday as well. there is some rain moving in monday night into tuesday. i'll have the details with the accweather 7-day forecast in just a few minutes. >> today is looking good chris, thank you. fans are already gathering to cheer on the eagles. >> indeed they are.

just a tad and by 10:00 the fourth quarter, 44 degrees and just the slightest breeze out of the south southwest at 4-6 miles per hour as we continue to thaw in the philadelphia area. this was sent in. this was a week ago look at all the ice on the delaware bay. look at it now. it's completely free of ice. all the ice is melted, the snow is all melted now as we see temperatures in the 50s a couple of times since and we'll continue to be above freezing here the next several days. today we're forecasting 52, tomorrow is in the 50s. we get into tuesday some of us hit 60 degrees. it's very comfortable out there this morning. a lot of low to mid 40s showing up. lancaster you're the exception, 49. the satellite and radar cloud cover to the north, a couple of spritz and sprinkles to the west. we're not expecting any wet weather for today.

although this system here, this is going to jump the rockies and cut into the great lakes as long as areas of low pressure pull this way, our surface winds are out ahead of it. all this precipitation you see here by lunchtime on tuesday, it's all in the form of rain. it's all liquid, there's no frozen precipitation. temperatures are going to be way too warm this time around. tuesday we'll skip over today and tomorrow. by 9:30 tuesday morning, here comes that line. you can see some yellows and oranges, this would indicate perhaps a rumble or two of thunder as that plows into that warm air. this will cross through early in the afternoon. the sun will return. temperatures will start falling and that's going to set up a cooler period for us wednesday, thursday and friday. rainfall totals nothing too terribly impressive, generally half inch to three-quarters of
