battling to save his life. police say chaos erupted around 7:30 a.m. at the corner of broad and bigler, the driver of the black honda with maryland plates was trying to run pedestrians down. one person was hit and flipped up on the hood of the car. police say he is a 39-year-old medford, new jersey man listed in stable condition at jefferson hospital. an off duty officer driving the pick up truck came upon the scene and started scuffling with the driver. >> he maim out of the car and attack -- came out of the car and attacked the off duty detective. the off duty detective had a firearm and struck the male in the head. >> reporter: the officer fired a dozen times hitting the suspect in the head. the suspect in in surgery at this hour in extremely critical condition. he has a virginia drivers license. police are withholding the

wounded suspect's name because they have not been able to contact his next of kin. no charges have been filed. the officers reported no injuries from the wild encounter in south philadelphia this morning. vernon odem channel 6 "action news" live in south philadelphia. rick. >> thank you. police in reading, berks county are trying to sort out the circumstances surrounding a shooting that left three people dead. three men were killed inside a home on third south street. the 4th victim was rushed to the hospital and died from their injuries. walter perez is at the scene gathering more information and will have the latest in a live report at 12:30 p.m. chopper 6 hd was over the house fire in the somerdale section of philadelphia, 800 block of bridge street frts were called after -- firefighters were called after 10:00 a.m. we don't know the cause of the fire. a deadly crash led to the
