still needs to be picked up completely but officials and fans agree it was all quite worth it. >> absolutely. city officials couldn't give an exact number about how many people were along the parade route but they say it was more than 700,000 screaming fans. police say only two people were injured, they were stabbed during the parade. >> however, one of those incidents likely stem from an ongoing problem between two people and happened inside of a residence according to authorities. there was also an assault on a police officer and five arrests for disorderly conduct. police commissioner richard ross says -- he summed it up this way. >> to be able to have that type of event with those numbers and to have as the mayor said, some small hiccups, you know, is remarkable in my estimation and that's just because of the collaboration of everyone, not just philly pd, everybody and so i'm thankful to them, i'm thankful to all the people who attended, you know, who helped to make this a great celebration. >> absolutely. as far as the cost of the event, the city still working

out how much the eagles the nfl and philadelphia will each pitch in to cover the cost of everything. >> one look at the conditions on eakins oval and the ben franklin parkway shows the amount of work that is ahead for crews in the coming days. mud is now where the grass used to be and we're told that's only temporary. so is the trash but there's still a lot of it and it seems to be everywhere. >> for more on that let's head to "action news" reporter bob brooks along the ben franklin parkway. they still have a job ahead don't they. >> reporter: yeah, rick and monica, they do. maybe a record setting day in attendance certainly a record said in setter in the fact that that was a first, the first of many we hope but also a record setting day in the amount of garbage. you can see some of it surrounding me 60 tons of garbage had to be removed. like the spot you see in front of me they still have a few places to tidy up. it was a celebration for the ages. when you have a party like that, you'll also have a cleanup for the ages to go right along with it.

today crews have been busy cleaning it all up. all kinds of stuff. most of which was stuck in mud that used to be the grass. we have philadelphia streets commissioner carleton williams on that. >> oh, it was a lot of unique items that we saw here, so we saw grills, we saw crates, maybe people were standing on them, i don't know. >> as it stands right now, he says crews have collected more than 60 tons of garbage along the parade route. that's a record for any event in the city. but his crews should be done with the cleanup work by no later than tonight. he says they don't even mind. >> we're like the eagles. we just go to work. we get in there real quick and, you know, that's our job and that's our business and so our guys are happy to do it. >> reporter: neighborhoods just outside of the parkway like spring garden, fairmount, also had some cleaning up to do. we saw quite a few piles of trash bags on street corners but neighbors we spoke with said they're not surprised. >> honestly it's worth all the effort. i mean, it's a mess but anyhow

just beginning to gather some moisture from the gulf of mexico but that will really blossom as we head through the day tomorrow and it moves in. so future tracker showing first half of the day should be fine just cloudy. then showers developing late in the afternoon around 4 o'clock they're here and then that rain really intensifying into saturday or sunday morning. by sunday morning it's pouring out there. we also could be dealing with some fog. so, the accuweather alert is post -- posted for the weekend. heaviest rain sunday morning. we're looking at a pretty good soaking, generally one to 2 inches, the heaviest right along the i-95 corridor. could get locally up to about two and a half inches and this will cause some flooding concerns. the ground is pretty much frozen so even with that warming it's going to have a tough time absorbing the rain so localized flooding even some waterways could flood. i'll talk more about the details coming up in the full accuweather forecast. monica. >> sounds good. thank you cecily. get updates to this

[bell tolls] >> reporter: investors still skittish after yesterday's 1,000-point plunge. the second biggest one day point drop in history. the biggest, that happened just four days ago on monday. the dow is now down more than 10 percent from its high in january in what analysts are calling an official correction. >> it's a bit like a wildfire. it's good we need to burn some

of the brush off so that you don't get a massive wildfire. i think we're just burning off some of the frost in the equity market so that a much bigger bear market correction doesn't happen. >> reporter: experts insist the economy is doing well. but these positive developments could be having a negative impact on investors. many worried that the economy is doing too well too quickly and that the federal reserve may hike rates in order to keep inflation under control. >> the real concern is that if we get good news it suggests that actually maybe our economy might be overheating. >> reporter: experts remind us that now is not the time to be afraid. >> do not jeopardize your long term financial security based on short term volatility. look at the big picture. the fact is the economy's growing and if you're vesting for years or decades, this is a good buying opportunity. >> reporter: this has been the worst week for stocks since the financial crisis in 2008, but experts and analysts here on wall street say now it's a much different time

rick and monica, westbound side approaching the oaks, the egypt road exit. we can see here now all off to the side but a lot of emergency crews are still on the scene, so it's attracting some attention. westbound is extra busy coming out of king of prussia through this point at oaks along 422. now just off 422 just south of pottstown in north coventry there's also a bad wreck along route 100 pottstown pike at cedarville road close to the long horn's steakhouse there. by the wendy's in morrisville watch out for a bad crash along pine grove road at trenton avenue. the good news is everything's cleaned up along the pennsylvania, way -- parkway but the rains are opened along the ben franklin parkway so you're good to go heading out of town in direction this afternoon. in bella vista watching a downed pole along washington avenue, it's the westbound side by ninth street that the police are directing you around. we had a crash along 95, it was the southbound side near bartram avenue but there has now cleared out of the way. in garnet valley watch out for

>> three law enforcement officers were shot while serving an arrest warrant in georgia. one was killed. it happened at 11:00 a.m. in the town of locust grove. officials say when the officers went to the home they had no reason to believe the suspect would become violent but then it became clear the man was not going to go with them willingly. we know the suspect is also dead. the locust grove officer killed had been on the force for five years. the two deputies who were wounded are veterans. they were seriously injured.

>> health check tonight. the cdc released new numbers on the flu this year. it could be on track to break seasonal records. >> health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman joins us at the big board with more. hi, ali. >> i know i've been covering this a lot but it just keeps getting worse. the virus is still on the rise and we're seeing a lot of people treated for severe symptoms. now, typically flu season lasts about 11 to 20 weeks. right now we're at week 11 and officials say it doesn't appear to be slowing down. it started with a bad cough. then 10-year-old keonna richardson ended up on a ventilator unable to speak due to complications from h1n1 an a strain flu virus. >> she had went to school with no problem and her school nurse sent her home with a 102 fever. >> the flu comes on quickly with fever body aches cough and runny nose. she's now recovering. the cdc says hospitalizations

due to the flu are way up this year. more than 60 children have died and the flu is also hitting healthy adults over the age of 50 harder than usual. the vaccine isn't a great match for the predominant a strain, the h3n2 which is typically more severe but there are other b strains also now going around. the vaccine is more effective against these viruses. pediatricians tell parents to watch for signs of trouble. >> child having difficulty breathing, dehydrated blue or bluish around the mouth is your child having a fever with a rash. >> these are signs of a medical emergency. also if your child is extremely lethargic or if their fever breaks and returns with worse certaining symptoms get them to the doctor. and cdc officials are still calling this season moderately severe. at this point the flu-like activity is about the same as it was for the peak in 2009. and that's when we saw the

today. blare thomas was the guest speaker here at newtown elementary in newtown. thomas grew up in philadelphia attended penn state and played for five different football teams during his nfl career including the dallas cowboys and the new england patriots. he was drafted by the new york jets. he told students today that if they work hard enough they can accomplish anything just like him. thomas' visit was part of the school's tribute to black history month. this weekend 6abc is presenting a special black history month edition of visions including a look into a south philadelphia museum dedicated to a music and civil rights legend. we'll also get a preview of a big parade getting ready to march through the streets of philadelphia also see how the sixers are making a big mark on the lives of children in camden. that's visions a special visions 2018 tomorrow night at 7:30 right here on 6abc.

some very warm air, very moist air. the problem is that the ground is still very cold, it's wet and when you have that setup, the temperature will meet the dewpoint and what happens, we get fog forming and some of that fog could be dense saturday night into sunday morning. that's also when the heaviest rain will fall. this could definitely cause some travel delays especially if you're trying to fly in or out of philadelphia. right now temperatures generally in the upper 30's. philadelphia 38. allentown 36. trenton 37. cape may 38. the poconos 23 with some snow showers. and temperatures actually will be rising overnight. satellite and radar showing the storm system bringing the snow showers to the poconos its a warm front so as that lifts up to the north, we get that flow shifting out of the south. that pulls up the mild air. so, overnight lows will actually reach this evening temperatures dropped to 36 in philadelphia and before we start to rise allentown 29, trenton 33, cape may 37 and wilmington 34 with plenty of

clouds and future tracker showing tomorrow morning the clouds are in place. could have a touch of drizzle here or there across south jersey, really doesn't look all that organized. if you want to get in some outdoor activities, i know rick wants to go running tomorrow, do it early because -- exactly -- in the afternoon that's when the showers will develop around 4 o'clock and that's also temperatures rising up into the low 50's in philadelphia. it gets heavier into sunday morning. sunday at midnight some heavy rain, even a rumble of thunder and sunday early in the morning more heavy rain, 50 degrees in philadelphia. at 6 o'clock. should manage to make it up into the low 60's before temperatures drop into the 50's by 4 o'clock and that rain tapers off to showers. if you're heading up to the poconos get your skiing in tomorrow. tomorrow not a bad day. clouds with some rain arriving late in the day, 42 degrees. sunday maybe a good day to head to the indoor water parks, maybe the outlets with a soaking rain and a high of 46. so, the five day at 5:00 showing tomorrow it's cloudy.

this saying he did not offer his resignation, he plans to stay but we know that the president has been furious over it. president trump defended his former top aide rob porter who resigned as staff secretary yesterday after allegations of spousal abuse by two ex-wives became public. from the oval office president trump wished him well, this despite evidence of domestic violence including photos and a police report. >> he said very strongly yesterday that he's innocent. >> reporter: the president made no mention of the women accusing porter of domestic abuse but instead commented on porter's state of mind. >> he's also very sad. >> reporter: last night chief of staff john kelly under fire about what he knew and when he knew it sent a memo to staffers stating that the white house takes matters of domestic "very seriously." when the allegations became public earlier this week, kelly first issued a statement calling porter man of true integrity and honor. but after a photo surfaced of porter's first ex-wife with a black eye kelly distanced himself from his original

deal because it increases the deficit and he held up the vote himself for hours. >> i don't advocate for shutting the government down but neither do i advocate for keeping it opened borrowing a million dollars a minute. >> the bill does not address the dreamers. after president trump signed the measure he tweeted that negotiations on the fate of the dreamers will begin soon. the legislation is a two year spending plan for programs such as defense spending but it does only keep the government running through march 23rd. >> a new proposal by the trump administration would require servers to hand over tips to their employers. now pennsylvania's ag is fighting that plan. attorney general josh shapiro was at the morning glory diner in south philadelphia this morning. he outlined efforts by the labor department to allow employers to take tips as long as a server is making minimum wage. minimum wage in pennsylvania is just over seven dollars an hour. shapiro along with several

other attorneys general have filed a notice of formal opposition to the plan and says the idea is also a disservice to customers. >> go ask some of the customers here. they believe that when they give a tip to their waiter or waitress it was intended for their waiter or waitress not to be pocketed by the owner of the place. >> there are about 220,000 tipped workers in pennsylvania. they could stand to lose more than $24 million under the proposal. >> it is the day after one of the biggest parties this city has ever seen and with most day afters, it is time for a cleanup now. the action cam on the ben franklin parkway this morning as crews deployed all kinds of tools to pick up the mess behind. now what made matters worse was a layer of mud covering everything that had been dropped on what used to be the grassy surface of eakins oval. a big job of course but for any who say this could be done once in a lifetime they say it was still worth it. >> trash is kind of gross. >> it's worth all the effort.

there's still a chance especially late on tuesday for another round of some showers so we have an unsettled pattern setting in. the almanac for today, the high 39 a few degrees below in normal of 42 degrees and the record for the date it can get as warm as 64 degrees. that was set back in 1990 but take a look at the low. the low. 47. that doesn't seem to be right here. since the high was 39 degrees today. but the record low 11 below zero back in 1934. that was the coldest recorded temperature ever in philadelphia's history on this date and hey, the sun is setting now at 5:30. as we look at numbers, 36 in allentown, 37 in trenton, 38 in millville. so temperatures are still chilly. winds coming in off of the ocean of 37 degrees. but the southeast wind is going to turn more southerly overnight and that will actually increase the air temperature as we get into the late night hours. clouds, they're plentiful here in the midatlantic and to the

northeast. this is the same system that rode through chicago heading into new england and that is not the system that is going to bring us the soaking rain. that is still gathering steam here down to the south and the gulf of mexico. you starting to see all of that moisture blossom and by later tonight, 10 o'clock on phl17 or here on "action news" at 11:00 you'll see a lot more rain down to the south heading our way. so, clouds dominate for tonight, temperatures do rise, 29 to 36. it will be 40 by morning. in fact, you can see that by 8 o'clock tomorrow morning on future tracker, maybe a few showers along the shore. but a lot of clouds locking in and as we get into the afternoon, that's when the rain starts to arrive, 3:30 with temperatures well into the 50's. raining all of saturday night, turning heavy and steady. in fact, saturday night temperatures may not drop below 50 degrees in the city of philadelphia. waking up sunday morning 6:30 it is still pouring out there but then everything exits as we get into sunday afternoon with a few lingering showers and very warm temperatures. we are expecting anywhere

between an inch to 2-inches of rainfall. this is a true soaking here as we head into the weekend and with that one to 2 inches of rain, the problem with the flooding concerns here is we have a frozen ground. that means the rain will run off the ground and most of it cannot seep into the ground and so with all that runoff, there will be some streets that could also flood streams creeks and rivers. we'll have to watch that especially during the day on sunday. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast 53 as that rain arrives late tomorrow afternoon. fog will also be a concern late saturday night into sunday morning with that heavy rain, 61 warm degrees and then we drop it back to 48 on monday. any morning showers or clouds should exit with late breaks of sun developing and then the clouds roll back in on tuesday with evening showers of 42. valentine's day lots of clouds, maybe a shower around at 52 and then maybe we'll break that dismal pattern as we get into thursday and friday as it turns cooler on friday after near 60 next
