hitting a dangerous curve on lincoln drive in germantown. >> good morning to you it is 6:00 a.m. on a sunday morning. here's meteorologist chris sowers with a look at that soggy forecast. >> good morning. we have quite a mess this morning. what's going on a dense fog advisory is in effect through 8:00 a.m. visibility has been reduced to less than quarter of a mile. numerous flood advisories and a flood watch that remains in effect until this evening. you can see just south of hammonton, cumberland county, from millville up to the vineland area to the west of may's landing, there is another cell starting to develop just to the west of route 47 and there's one more area into new castle county in delaware, and same thing. we're picking up some moderate rains now. this is the leading edge of a heavier band that is just off

the screen pushing through the baltimore and dc metro areas. this is going to start racing off to the northeast. this will start pulling more heavier rains across northeastern pennsylvania. you're going to see the heavy rain fill in over the next couple of hours. flood advisory up until 6:30, for cumberland, atlantic and cape may county. in particular the poor drainage areas are starting to fill in quickly. there is a another advisory for kent county and southern new castle county until 9:00 a.m. more heavy rain is still in the works here off to the southwest. rainfall totals, these are official as of 5:00 a.m. 1.85 in dover, mill vil nearly 2 inches. atlantic city 1.5, the farther north and west you are the left rain you've received up to this point. that's going to change as that

band of heavy rain starts to pull through. but you can see south jersey and delaware has picked up quite a bit of rain in the last couple of hours. forecast for today, periods of rain, cloudy and damp, some of the rain is going to be heavy and a lot of dense fog early on. 63 degrees is the forecasted high. i'll be back along in just a few minutes. i'll let you know when the rain gets the heck out of here and when the temperatures return to seasonable temperatures. >> get updates to this weekend's forecast. the 6abc app is a free download for your mobile device. >> a south jersey police department is sending out a warning about a potentially lethal batch of heroin. police say that batch is connected to four suspected overdoses since friday. police did not offer any other details but we do know they want people to call 911 if they believe they are overdosing or no anyone is. they say the good fair r. samaritan law protects those

people were being arrested. happening today, lasalle university will host a funeral for one of the school's all-time basketball greats. he and his wife died in a car crash in january in los angeles. a mass will follow. butler attended roman catholic high school and was lasalle's four-time leading scorer. we are learning more this morning about a shooting outside a prison. a correctional officer shot a man who had just been released. the prison's commissioner is talking about that confrontation. action news reporter bob brooks has more. >> reporter: he's 26-year-old jamal bennett. according to police he was released from the correctional facility. they say he didn't make it off the property before committing a

crime. he set his sights on a correction officer. philadelphia commissioner briefed us she said the officer under attack was a 27-year-old veteran, that bennett was trying to steal his car. while being pummelled he was able to grab his gun. he may have served his life by shooting bennett in the chest. >> the police responded, medics responded. >> reporter: good news he's going to be okay. it seems to be an ongoing issue. inmates, their families and guests. parking in the same lots employees do. local union rep released a statement in part reading sadly the commissioner of prisons will put an inmate familiar's and visitor's first before the safety of employees. no other prison allows them to park with corrections staff but

the philadelphia department of corrections does. i read the commissioner that statement. >> the parking arrangement in the parking with the civilian and staff has been in place for over 20 years. >> reporter: she also says parking for visitors is mostly directed to the state road. she also says more patrols will bevel be at it after this. >> i take all staff's safety into account. i'm responsible for them. and when we see there's a situation that presents itself and we're able to correct it and address it, we do. >> reporter: the commissioner says the safety is the number one priority. a total review of how things are done out here will happen. as for bennett he was shot in the chest he's in critical condition but we are told he will survive and now face new charges. bob brooks, channel 6 action news. >> your time now 6:06. president donald trump took to twitter to appeal for due

tracker and we're zoomed into south jersey and delaware. there's a couple of pockets of heavier rain. one right now pushing through northern portions of atlantic county as you look towards the upper right hand part of your screen and there's another cell off to the southwest from kent county central delaware down to dover. there's a large portion of south jersey and delaware that's picked up between 1-2 inches of rain already and the heaviest is still off to the southwest across baltimore and dc. some of these rainfall totals when you tally up all the numbers may exiid 3 inches in several locations here. flooding is going to be a big concern during the late morning hours. you can see the yellows and oranges there, that is heavy rains for newark and wilmington. this is pushing off to the east northeast at 15-20 miles per hour. that's a quick look at the radar and as we get you over to the wider view, you're going to see again the pockets of heavier

rain off to the southwest here across the baltimore and dc metro area. this is going to be the biggest concern. this is the big problem here. lots of reds and oranges and yellows, and that will pull through the i-95 corridor over the next hour or so and the ground is already saturated and the one thing we were talking about the fact that the ground is frozen this is all going to run off. flooding can be a big concern. dense fog advisory this remains in effect, the national weather service has until 7:00 a.m. but it wouldn't surprise me if they extend it. visibility is less than .25 mile. the visibility has been chopped in half because of the low-level clouds. half mile in lancaster, 2 miles in philadelphia, less than a mile in the poconos and 1-3 miles across south jersey and delaware. here's future tracker 6. here comes that heavier rain band lifting north pretty rapidly and things begin to

taper off right around lunchtime. you're going to pick up a light mist or drizzle. here comes another round by 3:00 for south jersey and delaware. more heavy rains and that continues through the evening hours and finally after 7:00 or 8:00 this evening, everything begins to calm down, from northwest to southeast. tomorrow morning more than likely we'll wake up to a little bit of sunshine and that's the flavor of the day tomorrow, clouds and sun mixed. dense fog this morning, from time to time visibility will drop down to less than .25 mile making traveling treacherous out there. flooding is expected in low-lying areas, areas of poor drainage and those smaller creeks and streams are going to start filling their banks. 63 in philadelphia and millville, wilmington 62, dover 66. it's not a misprint. 60 in trenton. heavy rain this morning. lancaster 54, allentown 52.

a wet mess, today will be worse. we're looking now at 95, the rainy start to our sunday. heavy rain on the way. >> let's get right to the accuweather alert. the rain washing us out most of the weekend. >> meteorologist chris sowers with a look at the very wet forecast. >> just think gray yesterday was the better of the two days. today is going to be a real mess. we have pockets of heavier rain starting to push in now. it will continue all day long. some locations when you tally up all the numbers could exceed over 3 inches. flooding is going to be a strong possibility in some of these locations. flood watch continues, pockets of heavy rain the whole area is under the watch between 8:00 and 10:00 this evening. we've set it into motion for you, overnight we've had a pocket of heavy rain across south jersey and delaware. here comes another band from dc

up into the wilmington area. lots of yellows, oranges and red. this heavy rain will overspread the air gra from northwest to ash area from northwest to southeast. this is southern chester county. you can see the dark greens and yellows and another zoom will take us over into central delaware. this is kent county from middle town all the way down through smyrna and dover. more heavy rains overspreading the delaware bay region. these cells will push north into southern cumberland county. start picking up the heavy rain shortly. and one last zoom will take us a little farther off to the east. for the most part right along the immediate coast we're cloudy with a little drizzle taking place and a lot of dense fog and all this rain will start to pull to the northeast over the next hour or two. we have a couple of flood advisories. this has been discontinued for

cape may county but the advisory remains in effect for cumberland, salem, gloucester and there's another advisory for central and northern portions of delaware. same thing, 1-2 inches of rain already fallen. another 1-2 expected. the good news is temperatures are mild. look at the numbers right now. 51 in millville, 40 in allentown. so there's no mixed precipitation here, this is all rain. later on this afternoon we are in the 60s. it's going to be damp and dreary. but this is nice and mild. >> thank you for the update. 6:32. new information this morning. one man is dead after a shooting in southwest philadelphia. the action cam right there at the scene at 66th and guer after. police responded to the scene just after midnight. they found the victim in his 20s dead on the street. this morning there's no word about a motive or any arrest. also new this morning police

are looking for a suspect on another shooting on a north philadelphia street. the action cam also at that scene on the 3400 block of north water street. police say they found a man there with a bullet injury to his body. he had staggered to the sports bar just before midnight after getting shot about a block away. the victim we're told in his 30s was taken to temple university hospital where there's no word about his condition. police have not yet made any arrests. and this morning philadelphia police are also for looking leads in another homicide. this one happened at 56th and locust around 9:30 last night. a man in his 20s died after he was shot in the head. police are working to track down the shooter. >> happening today, a memorial will be held to honor a corrections officer killed during a riot in a delaware prison. lieutenant steven floyd was held hostage and died last february. he was a 16-year veteran at the

department of corrections. the governor will be among those attending the memorial later this afternoon. this morning emotional salutes honored two fallen ohio police officers both shot during a call. hundreds of police officers and firefighters paid tribute to the officers as their bodies were taken to the mill examiner's office -- medical examiner's office. the alleged shooter is in custody. here 'brian clark with details. >> reporter: police in ohio say two officers were shot and killed respond to go a 911 call for assistance at a potential domestic situation. >> we've got two officers down, critical. >> reporter: they were fired upon when they arrived at the residence. one officer died on the scene, the other at the hospital. westerville police chief called the officers true american heros who gave their lives in the protection of others. >> these were two of the best w.

polar plunge near denver, colorado. they braved temperatures near 20 below for a great cause. they were raising money for the special olympics. they had to put holes in the ice to make sure there was enough space for the swimmers. >> that's a polar plunge. it is funny, i did one of those out in chicago like seven or eight years ago. same thing. they had to get those tracker things to remove the ice so we could even jump into the water.

i jumped in but i was actually warmer in the water than when i got out because the air was so cold. >> seven or eight years ago, it's time to do it again. >> no. let's get you back outside and get you started with a live look. no wintry precipitation for us. temperatures are very, very mild. believe it or not. most of us, just about the entire viewing area, most of us should climb up into the 60s later this afternoon. it's going to be unseasonably warm. unfortunately we have a a lot of rain heading our way. we're already starting to see the pockets of heavier rain, the yellows, the oranges showing up to the south of baltimore. the first stop is going to take us into the southern portions of our viewing area. this is kent county in delaware, this is delaware bay and this is cumberland county. all of this activity is pushing

off at about 25 miles per hour it's just more heavy rain on top of the heavy rain that fell overnight. some locations in south jersey and delaware have already picked up over 2 inches of rain. obviously this is only going to add to the problems down there. minor flooding occurring in poor drainage area. there is a flood advisory. this next stop takes us through chester county from exton in malvern, more steady rain, this is also lifting off to the northeast at about 25 miles per hour. so this band, this is what we're waiting for here. this will arrive probably within the next hour or two and it's going to run right up the 95 corridor from dc and baltimore all the way up through philadelphia and eventually into new york city and hartford, connecticut. we'll catch somewhat of a break by midday. that swings through later this afternoon. on top of that we have a dense fog advisory. it's in eveng until 7:00 a.m. it could be extended right now the

visibilities have actually increased over the last hour or so. expect frequent visibilities less than a quarter mile in this shaded area. and as we look at the visibilities, you can see they're not nearly as bad as they were. we're up to 2, getting a little bit better in reading, 1.5 in philadelphia, 3 in wilmington, 2.5 in millville and 2 miles in trenton. to sum everything up for you, during the morning hours expect pockets of heavy rain, minor flooding especially in low-lying areas and areas of poor drainage, and the visibility will be severely reduced at times, less than .25 mile. bottom line, slow it down and leave distance between you and the car from front of you on the road. during the late morning hours still tracking this pocket of heavier rain swinging out of here by midday and at this point it's mainly cloudy with a left over drizzle and it reloads again during the late afternoon hours. could be a rumble of thunder out

6:54 a soggy sunday morning. rainfall totals so far, dover you're the prize winner more than 2 inches. atlantic city a little more than 1.5 and philadelphia about .75 inch. we have a couple of flood advisories in effect the first one here across northern and central delaware from middle town all the way down to dover. 2 inches has already fallen in a large part of this area here and there's another advisory same idea 1-2 inches of rain. we're starting to see minor flooding in poor drainage areas and low-lying areas. so the advisories include smyrna, dover, bridgeton. the next round of heavy rain knocking on the door. it's still off to the southwest but this overspread the area over the next couple of hours, from dc to baltimore to philly look at the yellows, reds and oranges heavy rains will push
