a.m. on this sunday in the news at this hour... >> down the window and i could see smoke billowing out from the ground floor restaurant next door to us. >> a neighbor describing the moment that he realized a major fire is burning right next door. we will have a live report with the latest on this blaze in olde city as fire fighters continue to douse hot spots at this hour. hours earlier, philadelphia fire fighter was battling a fatal fire in the snow, medics transported two fire fighters to the hospital. plus, a snow covered some of you waking up to the white stuff this morning. meteorologist chris sowers has your snow totals and soaring temperatures in the accu weather workweek a lot to talk about chris good morning to you both. we are talking about snow on the ground right now, but by wednesday some may have daffodils popping up with temperatures all the way up in the 70's. here's the satellite and radar is there last night's snow, sipping on by here all the way off the coast, it is across southern nova scotia right now and moving at 40 to 50 miles

per hour and what we are seeing waiting in the wings here's the difference. there is no huge arctic high driving cold canadian air down but what we are seeing is a west/northwest mild breeze, this is all mild air. so this snow will start melting, very, very quickly. this afternoon we are in the mid to upper 40's. as we head into tomorrow, close to 50 and then it just gets warmer and warmer each and every day. we are close to 73 or 74 by mid week. here's final snow tall totals, we did really well with this. and out nicely. wood side 1 inch. bridgeton pick up 2 inches of snow. florence, 3 inches. huffs church 7.4. allentown little bit more than 8 inches of snow which brings your seasonal total over 2 feet in the lehigh valley. temperature wise magic number is 32. once we get above 32 everything starts to melt. as you can see here most of these locations air above 32 degrees. pottstown 34. malvern, warminster 33. center city checking in at 36. even milder south and east, glassboro, 37, forteskew, 29

and tuckahoe 39. sunny skies, nice and mild today. a high of 48. again, to degrees shy of 50. looking ahead here it turns really mild later this week. winter just completely vanished again. down fall is we do have several chances of rain but do i stress rain, and not snow. i will have details coming up in a few minutes. guys? >> chris, thank you. now to the latest on our breaking news, a fire fighters remain on the scene of this massive four alarm blaze, that burned for hours, in old city this morning. you can see flames shooting from the roof, and inside of the building here at third and chestnut streets. >> you can also see embers flying from that massive fire, and those embers were a huge concern, for fire fighters because of the museum of the american revolution that is right nearby. >> "action news" reporter bob brooks has been on the scene all morning long and joins us live with very latest. bob, this is impacting a lot of people. >> reporter: nydia and gray, absolutely. we just heard from the fire

commissioner with another update telling us 160 people had to be evacuated from out of this block. that is a lot of people. unfortunately with the fire this size, a lot of people today, everything in their home lost all of their belongings. behind me you can see the scene still very active. at this point the fire is under control. that doesn't mean flames and fire is out it just means that the fire department has a good handle on things. we can count one, two, three, four, five, six, i'm counting seven hoses shooting in to it trying to keep those hot spots down. up onto the roof you can see fire fighters are up there, starting to do some work on that. i will bring up some video here, when we first just got here to the scene this is about 3:30 or 4:00 this morning the flames, were massive. shooting up clear through the entire structure of this building, just a very intense fire here. now the fire commissioner says when they first came down here that they were sounding the fire alarms that some of the

people weren't coming up and they had to send fire fighters into get people out because it was a very dangerous situation , nydia and gray still a very dangerous situation. we spoke with residents as well from this morning. lets listen to the fire commissioner and those folks we spoke to this morning. >> the whole building have all been connected and reconn figure overtime, it our fire fighters never know what they are getting into which makes this a complex, dangerous fire fighting environment. thankfully they are the best in the business. especially at doing this. we have plenty of false alarms in our building with the fire alarms, and, it is nothing and then when i smelled the smoke, i realized this time it was the real thing. i'm actually, a former fireman myself so i know how serious these things can be. i took it very seriously, yes. >> reporter: another live look here at the scene, the work is continuing, traffic, in and around the area is closed down right now. police are asking residents,

right in the intersection of the third and chestnut. we are standing right on the property. and of the museum of the american revolution. again, fire fighters worried about embers, that is why they are keeping a close eye on this thing. you can see right now the smoke sort of picking up. so still very hot inside. the fire not out at this point but despite how much damage, how dangerous this situation this was, no reports of any injuries, none to any of the fire fighters, or residents, so we have good news on that front. reporting live from olde city, bob brooks, channel six "action news", gray and nydia. >> thanks, for the update, bob turning to our other big story old man winter got in a pun this much weekend. winter storm brought us some snow but as we predicted how much you got depended where you are. >> indeed, it d enjoy it now. it will not last very long. this is new video overnight of that heavy snow that pushed through salisbury township on the edge of allentown, parts of the lehigh valley took the brunt of the storm getting at least 7 inches of snow.

>> and action cam was in moorestown, burlington county overnight as workers shoveled sidewalk right outside catholic heritage house on main street. salt was sprinkled on the sidewalk to prevent icing as people get out and about this morning. workers were busy clearing away snowfall from parking lots in the delaware valley. action cam at the cherry hill plaza where bobcat was busy at work clearing a whole lot of snow. >> snow is being blamed for flurry of accidents in northern stretches of the bucks county. road where is slushy through much of the night and early morning hours so it was slow going on streets in the plumsteadville area. this family spent the day skiing in the poconos and the night, trying to get home. >> we have been, we left there at 4:00 o'clock and we just got here. it was almost three hours. yeah, really bad. you could not drive more than 20 miles an hour. >> and, cristina had to keep clearing off sidewalk outside her restaurant in doyletown last night. the good news, despite weather , customers living in walking distance continued to keep her busy.

>> that is good news. it was a picturesque scene as snow fell in rodney square in wilmington, delaware last night. look at all this snow. it created a blanket of snow but was not quite enough to keep people from getting out and about because we found several people enjoying a night outside on the town, yes , even in the snow. and look at how beautiful the snow looks, as it fell in center city with philadelphia city hall in the background. enough snow, fell last night to just cover cars, but fortunately we will not be breaking our backs, and digging out sidewalks in the city to day. >> thank goodness. slushy snow fell at main and broad street in lansdale, montgomery county last night. roads had a slight covering but those who were out and about, in their cars didn't seem to have too much trouble getting around. >> you can keep track of our rapidly changing weather conditions by visiting the six abc app. there you will find storm tracker six live radar and updated accu weather forecast. down load six abc app on any mobile device. your time 9:07. this morning investigators are working to figure out what caused a fatal house fire in

the fox chase section of the city. action cam at that scene just last night, the 7600 block of verree road when fire fighters got to this scene they say the home was engulfed in flames as you can see there. crews working their way to the second floor. that is where they found the victim a 70 year-old woman. she was unfortunately pronounced dead at that scene. two fire fighters were also hurt and their injuries are not considered to be life threatening. the pennsylvania supreme court will decide who is the rightful district attorney in susquehanna county. william rabansky served as county d.a. before a judge ruled him ineligible and installed marry ann o'malley instead. now urbansky is suing to get the job back. he says that the judge misinterpreted the state ease residency requirement. from our new jersey news room atlantic city tropicana casino was once doomed but 10 years later it has second highest gambling revenue in the city. tropicana had been stripped of

the casino license after a mass led off led to filthy rooms, infestations by insect and long line for services. despite the boom in business now it isn't without problems. last week a guest was arrested for setting up a meth lab in the tropicana hotel room. casino says the room has been since cleaned and inspected. your time 9:09. thon's still going strong just seven more hours to go for these students at penn state as they, danced around the clock, all to help raise money for pediatric cancer research. "action news" reporter chad pradelli has been right there for the entire weekend long event and has this update from happy valley. >> ♪ >> reporter: the party rages on inside of the bryce jordan center at penn state, only this is a party with a purpose ftk is motto for the kids, for kids like kaylonnie leboy who was diagnosed with brain cancer as an infant, her mother, remembers the tears. >> it was very stressful, and

she was only given a 50 percent survival rate so yeah, it was very, very tough. >> reporter: but thon, four diamonds fund and penn state hershey children's hospital help keylonnie make a full recovery. 4,000 families have benefited from thon over the years. three-year old menahoran was diagnosed with leukemia a year ago. >> they give us gas vouchers for every trip we make down there and anything outside of our insurance four diamonds has taken care on. it has been amazing. >> reporter: it is kid like keylonnie and mena honey expired these penn state tours raise money and dance for 46 straight hours. taylor is a committee member at thon, she cut her hair today, hair that will get to help make wigs for children. >> i really wanted to cut my hair. i thought no better way to do it and have it go to such a great cause, like this so many kids deserve it. i'm really happy. >> reporter: inside bryce

winter weather blankets the area thinks the scene in morris county where snow came down as heavy as rain at some points making it difficult for those drivers and folks walking in this. people were urged to use caution because snow created slippery conditions on the roads and sidewalks, and that was pretty just to look at for the moment. >> i have to say, guy, that was really cool. where i am in williamstown it started out as rain. i'm sitting on the couch, watching tv. then i see this shadow. >> yeah. >> i said what the heck is that? just clumps of snow, coming down. >> yes. >> big snowflakes. lets get over to the weather center did you go outside and play in it. >> i haven't been able to get off the couch in a week. i wish i could have gotten out there. it was really neat. taking a look at the headlines this morning that snow is long gone. the system that created all this snow last night was moving it 40 to 50 miles per hour. it was booking along this way. now it is so far off to the east barely in the picture. looking at the headlines this morning, sunshine returns this afternoon, temperatures are

off to the races later this week. warm front will approach, tomorrow afternoon, and that is when those spring-like numbers arrive. we have had several chances of rain in the accu weather seven day forecast and that is the down fall with all of this mild air, we will start to pick up a little bit of wet weather as well. this is a familiar scene around the area, this is in hamilton township, new jersey. sandie sent this in. see the snow in the backyard. some locations picking up an inch or two, others, five, six , 7 inches of snow. actually here are a totals right now. philadelphia at the airport 1.2 inches. puts seasonal snow fall total now over 14. sewell, in gloucester county 1.4. they have seen 15 inches of snow so far for the season. chadds ford 2.7 up over 18 inches. pottstown picked up 5 inches of snow last night. puts their seasonal total over 19. look at allentown, 8.3 inches of snow, last night, now puts their seasonal toll at 27.1 inches. hard to believe that, doesn't feel like they have pick up that much snow but those are

totals. we have had seven snow events. some minor, others a little bit more but seven in total. 37 degrees in allentown. reading 37. philadelphia 36. millville 37. all locations, well above the freezing mark of 32. and so here's your storm here. what i wanted to show you there is no arctic air behind this storm. a lot of times this time of the year you will get that nor'easter or this huge mid-atlantic storm and then get an arctic high driving on the back side. it keeps the snow on the ground for a while. look at how far off the arctic air is, all the way up in to northern canada and it is staying there over the next several days, if anything, we will be warming up here as we head in the mid week time frame. through go, 30's out there, nothing arctic, cold, nothing really too terribly bad. looking at water vapor west to east pacific air flooding the lower 48. just follow the cloud is here, all west to east, we will get arctic air and it will go north to south. we will not see anything like that for the next five to seven days. and here's future tracker six, mid up toker 40's today, wall to wall blue skies. really nice day. lots of sunshine expect.

overnight tonight, partly cloudy, temperatures getting pretty close to the freezing mark again north and west so watch out for a few slick spots out there, tomorrow morning. we will cloud up pretty quickly in advance of the warm front, a couple of showers by mid-morning, and could transition over to a steady period of rain by afternoon, and then look at the numbers though 40's and 50's. is there your warm front right there. once this punches through a couple things you will notice. one, humidity increases. i have the word humid on the seven day for first time this year. second thing you will notice is temperatures will really respond. they will really climb here for tuesday and wednesday. so mid to upper 40's this afternoon. sunny skies, we will call it mild, and then overnight tonight, partly cloudy, and then chilly but nothing too terribly cold. thirty in reading. thirty-four in philadelphia. and then 29 in millville. the exclusive accu weather seven day forecast, 48 today. fifty with rain on monday. and thone 70's, tuesday and wednesday, both of these highs are actually normal for the first week of may, and both are in record territory. thursday's mild, friday mild, saturday 59. nydia? >> all right, chris.

health check this morning women may soon be given more time and more choices as they go through child birth. the world health organization revealed 26 new recommendations for child birth, among them a change to theen mark that the serve cervix dilate at 1 centimeter per hour. who says it is unrealistic and lead to c-sections. instead it suggest 5 centimeters during first 12 hours. it says women should be given choices about delivery positions ande piece yot mys. woman suffering from postpartum depression for

several months are at higher risk for depression that lingers and could impact their children. uk study of 10,000 mothers also found that moms who suffered from depression were twice as likely to have children with behavioral problems. the researchers suggest screening women at postnatal appointments. new variety of easier to digest milk hit store shelves in philadelphia a2 milk was created in australia more than a decade ago. company gets milk from local cows producing a2 protein and not the a1, which causes stomach problems, that some people have when they drink milk. most milk is a blend from both types of cows, is there nothing added or removed as in lactose free milk.

olde city building goes up in flames forced residents and guests out in the street, we will have a live update in a little bit. also students from a florida school, where a gunman opened fire, just days ago, call for gun control, during a rally with think weekend. plus a beautiful sunny start to your sunday that snow that we received this weekend, it will be a distance memory really soon. meteorologist chris sowers tracking the accu weather forecast. were you all excited about the snow yesterday. >> yes. >> short stay. >> i'm so bumped, terrible -- bummed. lets get you over to the weather center and forecast for today. today starts the warm up, believe it or not that system that brought the snow will not last very long. highs today easily in the 40's , upper 40's most locations, 48 in philadelphia, millville 48. wilmington 46. lots of sunshine we will call it mild, cape may 46, and on the boardness atlantic city bye 48 degrees. hour by hour, you can see a ton of sunshine here later this afternoon and how quickly these numbers will climb. by lunchtime we're up to 44.

by 3:00 o'clock 47. by 5:00, 46 and then by 7:43 degrees. last night was proof that you can still get snow, even in a mild weather pattern. thursday's high 61, normal is 44. friday we shot up to 60's, and then it get colder, not terribly cold but just cold enough, only 42 on saturday, nit this, dover 1.1, claymont 1.4, emmaus seven in boyer town 7 inches of snow. then watch what happens here. as we get into this week monday 50, tuesday 70. wednesday 73 degrees. both of these days will be very close to record highs. so yes, that snow is going to be gone very quickly. guys? all right, chris, thanks for the update. it is now 9:31. philadelphia fire fighters on the scene of the massive four alarm fire that has gutted an olde city building. >> it caught on fire earlier this morning at third and chestnut streets and sent more than 150 people out in the cold night air. it has also forced close

another of the nearby museum of the american revolution. >> "action news" reporter bob brooks live on the scene there and brings us very latest information. this was an intense fire, bob. >> reporter: yes, nydia and gray when i got here flames were massive. completely engulfed the entire structure behind me. i will step out of the way. you can see crews very much working on this right now. i'm just doing a quick observation here. there is at least seven hoses going into this building right now and for the first time we're seeing unfortunately if we pan the camera over right to the building next door you are starting to see smoke now coming out of that building as well. so at this point the fire is considered to be under control by the fire department. that doesn't mean the fire is out. it just means they have a good handle on this. you can see, handle on things, excuse me. you can see some of that smoke now coming out of the other building. i'm in the sure what the damage is in the adjoining building but no doubt, very serious damage here, i want to bring up video here from overnight. around 3:30, 4:00 o'clock this

morning. you can see how big the flames were and how dangerous a situation fire crews were walking in to we spoke with the fire commissioner and he said one of the difficulties they have had is that some of the people heard fire alarms but they did not necessarily come outside, they had to send crewness to get them. creating an even further dangerous situation, down here so, hot spots, still a concern , obviously you can see they are still spraying things down here, let's listen to the fire commissioner from an interview earlier today and one of the residents that had to be evacuated. >> no, no damage to the museum again we are still having a little bit of embers spotting from this fire. so we are very conscious of that. you know, we still have hours left in the fire fight and probably, days, weeks of the investigation. >> really did a good job of keeping everybody calm. he had a calm, voice, said nobody really panicked. >> reporter: live picture here , more smoke, just in the last minute while i'm doing

this report is starting to come out of that second building, some fire fighters were inside they just knocked out some of the windows it looks like from that, middle floor there, the third floor up, guys, and it is considered again under control but you can still see they have a lot of work to do down here, and despite all of the damage good news is there are no reports of any injuries to any fire fighters or any of the residents here. reporting live from olde city bob brooks, channel six, "action news". >> been, thanks for the update that is good news no injuries. a 15 year-old boy scout is recovering this morning after he was, freed from a cave-in lancaster county. he had been trapped for several hours, and the teen was with other scouts last night when he got stuck in the rocks inside of a cave-in murray township. it took dozens of rescue workers several hours to free the boy and get him to the surface. he was taken to the hospital earlier this morning where he is being treated for hypotheria. your time right now is 9:34, and there are new details this morning about the alleged shooter in last week's massacre at a florida high

school. >> this is as students attend a protest to call on more gun safety laws. here's abc's linda lopez with the details. >> reporter: new details are emerging about the young man whom authorities say confessed to killing 17 people, at this florida high school. classmates who knew him when he was a student there say he was troubled. >> i feel like he was just alone, off, there is something off about him. >> reporter: and now a new and disturbing report from the department of children and family services, that says that nikolas cruz cut himself in september of 2016 sharing videos of his wound go on on snapchat saying he wanted to get a gun. >> every sign thaw are asked to look at was there. >> reporter: dcf report obtained by the sun and confirmed to abc news by the public defender, also shows cruz had a history of autism, adhd, depression, and was on medication. which cruz's public defender tells us he stopped taking. this report latest in the string of what appears to be missed warning signs.

the fbi never investigated worrisome tips that it received last month. over the past few years the local sheriff says they have responded to 20 calls regarding cruz. the high school massacre, now sparking ailing call for less fire power. >> enough, enough. >> reporter: anger, frustration boiling over at this gun safety rally in fort lauderdale. >> if all of our government and president can do is send thoughts and prayers then it is time for the students to be seeing the change we need to see. >> reporter: protesters calling on the florida legislature to restrict the sale of guns. >> no one should be able to buy a ar15, no one, okay. >> reporter: cruz had just turned 18 when he bought his semiautomatic weapon. investigators believe he fired approximately 150 shots in the minutes he was inside of the school. linda lopez for abc news, new york. jetblue airways is offering help to those families affected by the shooting. it announced yesterday that it

is offering free flights to victim families who are traveling to florida for funeral services. jet machines blue has partnered with the ride sharing company lyft to offer free rides once those family members arrived. the airline has also been planning to hold a blood drive-in florida later this week to help those wounded in the attack. our coverage of the florida school shooting continues on line and on the six abc app. through can read more about law enforcement's investigation and hear what loved won are saying about the victims who lost their lives in the shooting. your time 9:37. nj transit could be banned from operating its trains on the northeast corridor from trenton to new york city, amtrak says it may actually stop the agency from using tracks if new crash prevention measures are not complete. in december anj transit told federal regulators that the positive train control braking system had been installed on 35 of its 440 locomotives. nearly a thousand employees also need to be trained on this system. the ntsb, believing this new

rightful district attorney in susquehanna county. william urbansky served as county d.a. before the judge ruled him ineligible and installed marry ann o'malley instead. o'malley took off, february 5th but urbansky is suing to get the job back. he says the judge misinterpreted the state's residency requirement. from our new jersey news room atlantic city tropicana casino was cubs doomed but 10 years later it has second highest gambling revenue in the city. tropicana had been stripped of its casino license after a mass layoff led to filthy rooms, insect infestation and long lines for services but there is no such thing as a perfect operation and despite the building doing well, despite tropicana doing well, last week the guest was arrested for allegedly setting up a meth lab in the hotel room. casino says the room has been since cleaned and inspected. well, thon's still going strong just six more hours to go for these students to air at penn state as they dance
