action news reporter annie mc cormack is live from the scene with more. annie. >> reporter: and sarah, this is a busy portion of fifth street with a lot of traffic. you just heard that, and again, this is what we have been hear ing all night. this is the pothole that people are concerned about. now, the city is aware, but people say they're not only concerned about damage to cars, but also about an accident happening because people are stopping short trying to avoid it. this pothole on fifth street approaching spring garden is causing damage to a string of vehicles. and prompting reactions like this. >> oh! >> oh, yeah. >> okay, they just bottomed out. >> reporter: people cringed as they watched the driver go through the almost unavoidable crater. >> that's a dangerous pothole. it's huge. it's humongous. slow down. >> and all of a sudden the car went bam, and i was afraid the people were going to run into the back of me. >> reporter: this week the

city's streets department said that crews have repaired 18,000 potholes since january 1st. notify them so they can respond. tonight frustration is growing for drivers on fifth street, including eliza. this pothole cracked his front bumper passing through on the way to new york >> it's that deep and that bad, i don't know. i think that when it comes to my car, but this pothole has to be filled. it has to be. >> reporter: back out here live through twitter tonight the city streets department are aware of this and they will be taking care of the problem. but some drivers are saying in the meantime they wish that there were cones or a blinking light to let people know there is a pothole here. the city says for people across the city, if you see a pothole. contact them. 311, there's also a number on our website, you can also reach out for them through social media. reporting live in northern

a delaware highway in the northbound lanes of i-495 near the ramp to i-95 in clayton about 4:00 this afternoon. the group from shanghai was on its way from washington, d.c. to new york city. no one was hurt. passengers were take ton a nearby visitors center until another bus arrived. classes resumed tomorrow for the parkland school district in the lehigh valley. officials canceled school on friday after fire swept through the school bus depot. >> that's right, crews spent the weekend making repartly sunny of damages buses. christie ileto has more. >> reporter: that's right, a quarter of the fleet was wiped out in that fire. to make sure tomorrow is business as usual, buses from two leasing companies are on hand while mechanics spent the last 48 hours making repairs to what was salvageable. >> very busy. a lot of us are very tired. >> reporter: working around the clock making repairs to what's left of the fleet of

buses. >> mostly windshields and on the front of the buses, a lot of melting. >> reporter: it was this rag ing inferno days earlier that destroyed and damaged 30 buses. each bus costs around $90,000. couple that with the destroyed garage depot and the contents inside, the loss is expected to be in the millions. >> buildings can be replaced, buses can be replaced. but as you know, we can't re place a life. >> reporter: fortunately there were no injuries, and still no immediate word on what sparked the blaze. it did, however, force the district to cancel classes. meaning it was the fourth instruction day lost this year. and it needs to be made up. that's right, another reason why the district wanted to make sure students were able to get to school tomorrow, we're also told all of those destroyed buses were injure -- insured and under warranty. >> all right, christie, thank you. douglas high school in florida reopened their doors today. parents and students were invit

ed to an orientation nearly two weeks after the massacre. as pressure builds on law enforcement to explain their actions. kenneth is in parkland tonight. >> reporter: it was an emotional return for the students here in parkland. it was a sea of strength and support as thousands of students and parents made their way back into the halls of this south florida school. this orientation was a chance for families to prepare for the week ahead. classes are set to resume wednesday, and there are still major concerns about security. parkland is trying to move forward as the demand for answer s intensifies. 74 state lawmakers sent a letter to rick scott, the governor of florida, to suspend the sheriff, a democrat, saying they ignored repeated warning signs about the suspected shooter. and they are investigating reports about police officers who responded to the school. the claim, several deputies wait ed instead of rushing in during the shooting. the school's resource officer,

scott peterson, on video taking cover, has resigned. the building will never be useed again. the superintendent says it will be torn down and the school will likely build a memorial park for the 17 people killed. kenneth, parkland, florida. students and parents from the lower marion area hebrew high school decides to use the shooting as a teachable moment. they gathered together today for a live video chat with 16 -year-old jared block, a sophomore from marjory stohlman douglas high school. is he talked about before and during the shooting and why they have become politically active. >> leach has dropped a bid for congress. his campaign was stalled in december after allegations of in appropriate conduct towards female employees and campaign aids. in a facebook post last night, leach said he's ending his campaign, citing a attacks against his family, but, quote,

a man is recovering after arm armed intruders broke into his oxford circle home and pistol whipped him at 4:00 this morning. police say they kicked the door open, tied up a man inside, pistol whipped him and demanded money. a second person escaped and call ed for help. police have not made arrests yet somebody tired shots inside

a racket club in bucks county tonight. they are looking for this man, suspected of shooting a man in the back inside the pennsville racket and athletic club. the victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition. the bucks da's office is joining the police department in the investigation. more than a week after suffering a heart attack on the job, john warren jr. was working this fire on valentine's day when he collapsed. his colleagues began cpr and he was then rushed to atlanta care mainland in galloway township in critical condition. on friday he was moved out of the icu. warren has been with the fire department for more than 40 years and. an underground fire caused a manhole cover to pop off. police blocked off the area while crews were on the scene. nobody was injured. the historic building up in

flames in philadelphia's old city neighborhood last sunday is slated to be demolished this week. engineers assessed the damage at 239 chestnut and agreed that the brownstone is too badly damaged. however, the cast iron frame on the first floor will be saved and restored. the fire forced 160 people to evacuate. the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. well, septa's new spring schedule went into effect today for city and transition. route 58 buses with -- and begin ning in mid-march, route 96 with us -- buses operate with new routing at the landsdale station. the mummer's marched down the street for the fifth annual mardi gras parade. hundreds watched them go by. among the musicians, jason kelce

so, let's continue to talk about the numbers. so, for the month of february, temperatures have been well above average. when you look at the red-shaded boxes here, these are the number of days with temperatures above our typical high for this time of year. that was the case yesterday and same thing holds true here on our sunday. so, temperatures overall close to 5.9 degrees above where they normally should be for this time of year. visibility, however, is a concern for the rest of tonight. we're down to a half a mile in allentown. same thing in the poconos. down to five miles in philadelphia right now. three in reading. and just a half a mile as well in wildwood. satellite 6 along with action radar showing you finally that frontal boundary that stalled over over the weekend. dipping down to the south. eventually clear studies across the ohio valley head our way into the start of theweek workweek. the rest of tonight, mostly cloudy, mild, tip down to 46 in the suburbs and 43 degrees in philadelphia for the overnight low.

fast forward into the day tomorrow. mostly cloudy start to the day. 42 degrees is that number at 7 a.m. but by lunchtime, 53 degrees. and these numbers will keep on climbing by day's end. here is future tracker 6. really no cold air following this cold front. a lot of pacific air with west wind by tuesday. low of 50s to the north and west, not bad to the south and east. the last day of february, wednesday, southwesterly wind, climbing close to 60 degrees. a good 10-15 degrees above average by then. then for the first couple of day s of march, tracking a late week storm. possible heavy rain on the way strong winds also a big concern. and we have the potential of a full moon. coastal flooding and beach erosion is a concern as we track the system and the potential for some high elevation know. keep you posted on that. the exclusive accuweather seven day forecast, breezy and clouds
