helicopters crashed in hawaii. we begin tonight with the search for a woman who helped save the life of a local man. thanks for joining us, i'm lynda loveland. >> i'm gerald owens. debra morgan is off tonight. lucas oria was injured badly at an intersection. but a nurse stopped by and started performing cpr. adam owens tells us that the family is desperate to find her joining us live. adam? >> reporter: gerald and lynda, the family is calling this mystery woman their guardian angel. lucas osario is at a slow recovery here behind me as he could be there for some time. but he may not have made it this far if it hadn't been for that nurse. >> reporter: doctors say they would never have moments like this one again. >> hey luke, i love you. >> i love you too. >> reporter: back in november the 33-year-old was in iraq while on his motorcycle.

over the car. >> reporter: there were broken ribs with a pierced lung, but the injury is the worst of it. >> reporter: sometimes we would have moments of clarity, but for the most part he's pretty confused. >> reporter: even so that his mother stephanie calls it a blessing. >> i understand there was a nurse that came on scene and performed cpr. mom says that the story is confirmed by police. >> but that is no name as a nurse and i would have no idea of who she is and it is so important that they would find this guardian angel.

capital as they would take that unknown number of the hostages, forcing others to hide for their lives. commandos used explosives, accidentally setting fire to the hotel where it was not immediately known how many people may have been killed during the siege. and 12 military personnel, they are missing after two marine helicopters collided off the oahu coast in hawaii. >> the coast guard is leading the massive search effort for crew members. danielle nottingham has the latest from los angeles. >> reporter: search crews are scanning the treacherous waters for any signs of two marine helicopters, the dozen crew members on board.

orar ai>>ie bi initially found an empty life raft two and a half miles offshore. >> we have seen debris consistent with the military aircraft in various shapes and poup feet high complicating the armoving that debris all over the place as they would make finding things incredibly difficult. >> the chp is involved in that crash and known as super stallions. the marine course and their largest and strongest helicopter is made for transport as the military is investigating and the cause of the accident. the two navy ships are helping with the search as they were with them out of hawaii as this crash, they come less than a year after they were killed during a training exercise. and on board the experimental aircraft.

their bid for a new trial as they also ordered them to pay victims of the deadly apack and more than $101 million in restitution. the 22-year-old tsarnaev was convicted and sentenced to death last year in the 2013 attacks that left three people dead and more than 260 others wounded. tsarnaev also convicted of killing the massachusetts institute of technology and their police officer days later who has apologized. his brother tamerlan tsarnaev died days following a gun battle with police. within the past hour durham police have released the name of the homicide victim. officers found jose rodriguez this afternoon on north miami boulevard. they say that the 25-year-old collapsed behind the house who later died at the hospital. and duran police have not made any arrests in this case and they do not believe it was a random crime. a fayetteville man had his first court appearance accused of shooting his mother in the face. kevin powell asked for a court- appointed attorney. he went in to his mother's

shot 44-year-old birch in the face at point-blank range. powell was an outstanding basketball player at 71st high school back in 2008. he faces two felony charges now, the most serious attempted first-degree murder. a community prepares to say their final good-bye to a first of duty. joshua woods a firefighter was killed in a crash on tuesday, emergency call. >> today his family and colleague tell the viewing in service. wral's arielle clay shows us how they are remembering the man. >> reporter: fire station 9 doesn't feel the same when it gets their most vibrant number that is missing. >> they feel very energized any time you get around they know they were there. >> reporter: the glaring absence could be felt throughout their fire department and the 24-year-old was responding to the emergency call early tuesday morning. when he ran off the road and hit two trees. he died at the scene of the accident.

and just probably the hardest part about it as we would all do the same thing. >> reporter: the firefighters would join woods' family and friends at their viewing to say their final good-bye to the man that grew up and was close to many in the department, including the other josh at station nine. >> we have the same name and that to me they would need to have fun to play and that is how they would get along. >> the firefighters say that it will be that playful spirit and willingness to help anyone that they miss the most and they know that they would have wanted to go rushing to the aid of someone in need. >> i know that he wouldn't have it in any other way. and that it would hurt. that's how they would have wanted it. >> the fire truck will be a part of wood's funeral service scheduled for saturday at 1:00. arielle clay wral news. state troopers say that speed did play a role in that crash. >> remembering the life and legacy of dr. martin luther
