looking east, down western boulevard to downtown raleigh. in durham, it is 30. cary 25. and 29 in holly springs. yes, we are talking about some bitterly cold temperatures but not quite yet. these temperatures this morning, they are actually pretty close to normal. 30 in irwin. 30 at the airport. and in rocky mount. and 29 in fayetteville and 28 it feels colder than that, with the wind chill. it feels like 23 in southern pines. 22 in south hills. 22 in goldsboro. cold air coming. so even though the temperatures are in the upper 20s this morning, they are close to normal, at lunchtime, only 30, with a high of 35, and we will still be dealing with the wind chill today. again, tonight, the temperatures dipping to 616. we will talk more about -- 16. we will talk more about that coming up. a check of traffic this morning, looking good in south durham. that is the durham freeway. nice and quiet. and another location, on one of our 250-plus traffic cameras in downtown durham, the freeway

no accidents to report. light traffic on a holiday monday. and durham police are looking for a driver who hit a man on foot and took off at north roxboro this morning. and police say a silver minivan struck the man. paramedics took him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. a tragic hit-and-run that killed two teenagers and injured a third and so far drivers have yet to locate the driver responsible. >> officials say a car hit three teenagers as they walked along u.s. 421 in the broadway area of harnett county late saturday night. arielle clay is live at the hospital in sanford this morning where the surviving teen is recovering and she has more on the investigation an w families are reacting. aerial? >> reporter: the family of the 13-year-old girl killed in that accident say they are having a hard time dealing with what has happened. jennifer shark was one of three teenagers hit by a vehicle late saturday night, while the group

16-year-old kyle straight was also killed in that accident. according to investigators, the group walked down the road to go get some snacks at a convenience store. on the way back home, the family said they were hit by what witnesses described as a white truck. the family says mourning is much harder with no arrest and with the regret. sister come. i would have gotten her farther away from the road. honestly, i kind of regret going out last night. >> now, another teen was seriously injured. and that was 14-year-old steven daniel. she is still in the hospital. here at central carolina hospital. we are told that he is in critical but stable condition on last check. back to you. >> police are still looking for the driver.

we are working to find out what sparked a house fire near garner, the scene on meadowbrook road as firefighters worked to get rid of any hot spots. the call for help went out after 7:00 last night. and waiting for any information about possible injuries. investigators are searching for the cause of a fire at a home in south raleigh. they say it was accidental. the firefighters rushed to the scene on parkland road yesterday afternoon. four people who lived there now live. no one was hurt. the democratic presidential candidates traded blows in their first presidential debate of the year. hillary clinton, senator bernie sanders and martin o'malley took the stage in charleston. they sparred over everything from health care, on wall street reform, to gun control. >> well, i think secretary clinton knows that what she says is very disingenuous. i have a d minus voting record from the nra. >> i am pleased to hear that senator sanders has reversed his position on immunity and i

with those members of congress who have already introduced legislation. >> i would have to agree with both of them. they have both been inconsistent. >> clinton is leading sanders nationwide, but the two rivals remain tied in iowa. fayetteville officials will hold public hearings this week on whether a building where slaves once were sold should stay on the city seal. the seal includes the fayetteville market house. some people think it needs to be changed. the city has used that seal for more than 20 years although the fire department and the police department do not use it because of thedy visiveness. the hearings start tomorrow. all over the country people will remember martin luther king jr. and families are invited to a birthday party that will educate children about dr. king's legacy at 10:30 this morning at the north gate mall center court. today is a day of service for volunteers volunteers in

years amid fears of a global economic downturn. and the stock markets are down in tokyo, china, and hong kong, as well as in south korea, blame it at least partially on big drops in oil prices. and oil fell as much as 4% today. a barrel of crude now below $28. adding to concerns about the glut of oil and its impact on the world marks, a new wave of oil coming from iran. under the nuclear deal between iran and six world powers, europe's oil embargo on iran has ended and iran will rejoin the world economy after a decade of isolation. the country is the world's seventh largest oil producers. holiday sales didn't go quite as expected according to the national retail federation. sales rose 3% in november and december, below the 3.7% forecasted. still, plenty of people did do their shopping on the internet. and online sales exceeded expectations and grew 9%. the price of chocolate is on the rise again.

"the wall street journal" says that is due to poor farming conditions. chocolate prices are up nearly 40% in the past four years. visitors to new york city may soon see fewer of that city's iconic horse-drawn carriages. >> mayor bill deblasio and union officials report that they have reached a deal that would allow the carriages to continue to operate. animal rights advocates and mayor deblasio wanted to ban the horse-drawn carriages all together. under the agreement the number of horses would be cut from 180 to 95. and they would be stabled in central park. which is the only place they would be allowed to operate. the deal is still subject to approval by the city council. 6:42. a crisis with iraq americans are missing.
