>> we're looking at the system to be weakening considerably by the time it gets here. a lot of text moisture will be rung out as it crosses the appalachians. temperatures are already starting off at very chilly levels. already in the 20s at roxboro, henderson, south hill and on the brink of doing that here at the tv station and at lewisburg, rocky mount, and roanoke rapids, all checking in at 30 and then farther south, we see temperatures just a smidgion warmer but not much -- smidge warmer. as far as tonight goes, we're looking at another night in the mid-to-lower teens although that low may be achieved in the wee hours of the morning and as clouds increase, the temperatures goes up and those clouds could give birth to a few flurries tomorrow afternoon. this is the least of our worries with regard to precipitation. we have a much more impressive

this is day number 2 of a long day at work for steve. the lee heating and air-conditioning technician is repairing heating systems now that the cold weather has arrived. >> you get more failures and a lot more safety issues with furnaces, especially with the ones outside. >> reporter: they are doing more repairs than usual. >> a lot more failures than we normally see when the first part of the cold comes up. >> reporter: in downtown durham, pedestrians tried their best to stay warm as they headed out in the blustery weather. >> it's freezing. the breeze is getting to me now. >> reporter: ashley was especially susceptible, to the fashion statement. >> this was definitely a bad idea. bad idea. don't know what i was thinking. >> a few feet away, parlor ice cream were inside for a treat.

glen mcfadden is accused of mother's car. officers found and arrested mcfagden in selma and taken to the hospital. he's expected to be okay. and a deadly shooting in orange county, we brought thank newscast. kendrick tevin was shot in the eflin checks elementary school. the school was closed for the m.l.k. holiday. deputies don't have any suspects in custody. we ask anyone with information to give them a call. state troopers are investigating an accident involving a log truck in wayne county. that truck was coming around a curb near the intersection of old kindly and pikeville when it ran off a ditch about 2:15 this afternoon, however, it is still impacting traffic.

the night as crews work to clean up the mess. no one was hurt. and they're also working to repair several sinkholes in chatham county. today, along the section of jones ferry road, the road is starting to cave in, and is closed between laymont, and river roads. and near jordan lake remains closed after this sinkhole opened yesterday. this is new video we shot today at lystra. extensive project. and authorities in california are trying to figure accident. it rolled on its side during a rainy rush hour in san jose. two people died, five others taken to the hospital. no other vehicles were involved. lawyers for the so-called affluenza teen is dropping his fight of being sent home to texas from mexico.

at the time, they were looking into whether he violated probation stemming from a drunken deadly crash. the mother was quickly deported and the 18-year-old won a delay. the u.s. supreme court agreed to take up the president's executive action to end immigration. undocumented immigrants to work in the u.s., they cite additional funding to care for the undocumented immigrants. so far, federal reports sided in the states and a decision from the high courts are expected in june. and gains were very small. the dow closed up 28, the nasdaq closed down about 11 and a half and the s&p 500 ended up one point.

answer your questions about the health insurance marketplace. you may have heard it referred to as the obamacare exchange, so here are things that you need to know about the health insurance marketplace. it is for people who do not have health coverage through a job, through medicare, or medicaid, or the childrens health insurance program. what you pay for insurance fends on your income. did you know about 8 and 10 eligible for marketplace coverage qualify for some kind of financial assistance that can help them lower their monthly premiums. you can also enroll in a dental plan but you don't have to. and third if you don't have health insurance you may have to pay a fee. every year that fee goes up and if you don't have coverage for 2016 you'll pay a penalty of $695 per adult or 2.5% of your income, whichever is higher. so you may be wondering how does this enrollment process work, how can i find out what the

are losing money to the scam, five on your side's monica laliberte is here with a new government effort to get the word out. >> we have heard from so many folks about this. you get a threatening call from a ruthless scammer posing as an i.r.s. agent who intimidates you into sending money. hundreds of thousands are falling for it. the government is starting a new ad campaign to fight back. >> the i.r.s. is calling me. is this for real? >> reporter: the treasury department released this public service announcement, warning tax scammers about people who claim to be i.r.s.s a agents --

scared to the point he couldn't think when he got this threatening call last year. he called back. >> she was informing me they were filing a warrant for my arrest. >> over the next search hours, he made multiple withdraws from his bank, and sent the money to the i.r.s. impersonators with prepaid debit cards, the total, $16,000. cadenhead is far from alone. in march of last year, about 366,000 people reported being called by i.r.s. scammers. now, it's more than 900,000. and the total amount of money stolen grew from $15 million to more than $26 million. so how do you know when it's a scam? >> the tip off is, if you don't pay immediately, you're going to go to jail. that is the tip off.

telephone call like that. >> the i.r.s. does not call you. if you get a call like that, the i.r.s. says just hang up. and is they say they believe this whole thing started in india, but it is so profitable, it is all over the world now. >> and you have to keep reminding people as you said, the i.r.s. will not call you. they will mail you -- i've received some of those letters, and it's okay. but they're not going to make a call and if you think something the irs. >> don't ever call the numr they gave you in the phone message. >> no, no. >> go directly to the i.r.s.. >> or i'm dead serious. she'll call the i.r.s.. got letters. >> everything was just fine. monica thank you. >> a good reminder. at least for a while, direct tv customers will not receive

quite yet, temperatures are all below freezing around the metro area. 30 and 31 dominating the landscape and we broaden the view and start to pick up some 20s in roxboro and south hill and ahoske. temperatures are well down into the 20s this evening and perhaps the mid-and-upper teens tonight and one of the reasons it will get so close is it will be clear at least for a good portion of the night and the air is extremely dry when you have dew points below 0 like it is in greensboro. that means the amount of water vapor in the air is negligible. and as we take a look at the satellite and radar mosaic. we had some footage earlier of omaha, nebraska, of some slipping and sliding. in system is moving eastward. it's going to take a back seat to the one behind it, so as a

have a good shot at accumulating snow tomorrow morning and as the system moves east you'll see less and less through the central and eastern part of the state and into the afternoon and evening. the next system is just off the left hand portion of your telephone screen. so we take a look at futurecasts now and for evening hours, nothing more than a map, and tonight a significant increase in cloud cover and temperatures may bump up towards morning and during the day tomorrow, a lot 6 cloud cover. a few peaks of sun here and there and you notice this little blue area back here to the west around 5:00. that's all that will be left more than likely of the snow area as it crosses the mountains and into our part of state probably won't have much at all. and thursday it looks like things are going to be fairly nice for the first half of the day with temperatures getting into the 40s and our storm system not getting into force

talking about that at 5:30 and 6:00. and we'll try to be as specific as we can at this early time in terms who have is at greater risk and for what. 8:00 this evening, already down to 23 with mostly clear skies and they increasing in clouds late tonight, and tomorrow, we're looking at mostly cloudy, and maybe a passing flurry or flake in your neighborhood tomorrow afternoon. the high temperatures, 36. if i visit the your neighborhood, by all means you'll definitely see a flake, but if i don't, you may see one coming down from the sky. then as we take a look at the seven-day, thursday, deceptively nice, partly sunny, and 45, and a varietyty of precipitation depending on where you live and when you live there on friday and saturday and things should quiet down towards sunday, monday, and tuesday of next week. notice three of the next four days only in the 30s for highs, that's pretty chilly. >> and we'll keep watching. a police chase in california came to a sudden end as a new
