still very icy and parking lots are icy for walking. you'll have to be careful this morning. 27 degrees a cold morning and looking at mid 20s across the entire viewing area. our dew point at 22, humidity at 80%. we've had enough light thin cloud cover roll in we won't see too much fog this morning. 25 in roxboro and rocky mount, 28 in southern pines and 26 in fayetteville and clinton so no way are you escaping these cold temperatures but it won't be this cold tomorrow morning so even though we'll melt some there will be a little bit of lingering snow and ice out there tomorrow morning and temperatures won't be this cold so shouldn't be quite as treacherous tomorrow morning but we'll be here checking if out just to be sure. by 10:00 a.m. temperatures warm up nicely to near 40. lunch time mid 40s to near 50

future cast to the low to mid 50s. if that happens no one will complain about it. and tuesday morning tomorrow morning looking at low and mid 30s expecting about 32 at the airport for our official low but temperatures warm up nicely on tuesday. even warmer than today. official highs upper 50s. future cast wants to pop things up into the low 60s. so at that point say goodbye to the mess that we had and start watching for the next mess. here comes high pressure. it will be in control of our weather today with a high pressure system in that position. our winds coming out of the southeast that will help to begin our warming process. so this system--the next system for this week. this is not going to cause any problems. wednesday this system tuesday night into early wednesday that brings us rain but as this low shifts eastward another one developing off shore and could spread moisture in as cold air
6:20 am
some wintery mix on thursday morning. but that still looks fairly iffy. 47 degrees for today. 56 for tomorrow so nice little warm up. again 32 for tomorrow's overnight lows so not nearly as cold. on wednesday a good chance of rain that may start late tuesday and be with us wednesday especially for the first half of the day and then the chance of tapering off a little bit. a second system develops for thursday and temperatures will be chilly. 32 in the morning and that's what we'll be most concerned about. will the high push enough cold air in. will the low bring us enough precipitation. those are all pieces that may or may not come together for thursday. so right now we are just keeping wet conditions in the forecast for thursday morning. it's something we will keep our eye on and keep you informed as we have more and more computer models. loving the weekend temperatures

6:30 am
into ice on intersections and major roads. tara lin in live drive 5 this morning. i believe you are on strickland road tara. what are conditions like? >> that's right. we just turned off the intersection of strickland and creed more in a neighborhood. take a look at these streets covered in ice so you may have been out yesterday or as you are heading out today and your neighborhood may be clear and you are driving down strickland or capital boulevard getting on the interstate or some of the main secondary roads and these ones are clear so why are schools closed, this is why. many of the neighborhoods are still covered in ice. i know we've been talking about it throughout the morning one of the issues that some roads like this have to deal with is if they didn't get the sun yesterday then that certainly did not help in terms of trying to felt some of this ice and this is certainly compacted at this point and some drivers taking it very slow out of the neighborhood this morning.
6:31 am
roads that people will probably have the most trouble with for things to melt throughout the morning. we are still going to see slick spots. i did have a chance to check in with raleigh police. they've had a couple accidents but in terms of weather related they didn't have specific numbers about that but just be aware of it. people have gotten into accidents this morning and should drive slowly. >> as we see those temperatures rise later this morning we will see conditions improve. it's going to be a while if you could wait until late morning to leave. tara lin thanks very much and i'll be back in 15 minutes with another update. back to you. >> brian thank you very much. tracking power outages still going on in our area. >> wral mikaya thurmond has an update from a neighborhood in wake forest. >> bill and renee, 10,000 people without power and residents here on news trail estates are one of them. take a look at this home right behind me. they've been sitting in the dark since saturday morning.

winds calm dew point at 22, humidity at 81%. possible you would run into a little bit of patchy fog but we haven't seen much of that. 25 in rocky mount and wilson, 22 south hill, 25 roxboro, 27 southern pines and 26 fayetteville and clinton so even down south of the triangle temperatures still in the mid 20s. we didn't have as much accumulation for goldsboro clinton and fayetteville but still there's water on the roads and it's slippery so be careful. by 10:00 a.m. temperatures above freezing and warming up nicely into the afternoon. temperatures climbing up at least into the upper 40s. future cast into the low 50s a little bit warmer than what we see and we can hope for that. we won't be far off of it. overnight temperatures crop back into the up--drop back into the upper 30s and warming up nicely into tomorrow. briefly we have the future cast into the low 60s forecasted
6:40 am
pretty good for our warming temperatures. here's a look at satellite and radar and we do have cloud cover streaming in across the area right now. we'll see partly cloudy skies today. high pressure with winds rotating clockwise helping to pull in wind out of the southeast and that will help our warming process. this is the next system we are tracking the one that comes in late tuesday night into wednesday so it's going to bring us rain. not expecting any snow with this. we get a nice warm up ahead of the system so no cold air in place before it arrives. thursday looks like an interesting scenario. first off let's talk a little bit more about today. 47 degrees for today warming up nicely we get a little bit of melting going on. warming up to 56 for tuesday and starting off in the 30s instead of in the 20s so we may not have the deep freeze we are seeing this morning. we want to be cautious on tuesday but conditions may be better than tomorrow morning than what we are seeing this morning. late tuesday into early
6:41 am
probably a quarter of an inch to half notary public amounts. not going to be a lot of rain but the chances are pretty good during the day. then thursday a separate system develops off shore. i don't know what's going to happen with this one. it's yet to be determined. is it too far away or if it gets closer to shore and does bring us precipitations is this high going to be strong enough to pump in cold air. if the elements come together just right the morning low of 32 on thursday morning there might be a wintery mix on thursday morning. a lot has to come together for that to happen right now so it doesn't look too likely but showers for early thursday. the weekend looks fantastic with temperatures climbing to 60 and sunshine. that's a look at your weather to go and here's bribe with traffic. >> you need to be extra careful. we'll take a look at the cameras around the triangle and give you a look at the conditions you are likely to encounter.
6:42 am
be extra careful on bridges and ramps and major roads like interstates like north carolina highways mostly dry but those bridges could still be slick in spots and you can see here on this camera some of the road is wet and we have to assume that is icy and in many areas icy patches on major routes those ramps also really tough going in many spots this morning because a lot of them are surrounded by trees that shaded and didn't get that full compliment of sunlight yesterday to help with some of that melting. similar situation on secondary roads. we show you that in just a second. on 40 at the clayton bypass traffic moving along nicely on dry roads. not seeing any big problems from johnston county and school is out and traffic volume is lighter. if you do have to head to work put it off until later on this morning. major roads are like that pretty much throughout the viewing area. secondary roads a different story. the durham county sheriff just
6:43 am
of those secondary roads in rural durham county and it's still snow and ice covered this morning and that's a common sight from the triacreel area to the north and west so recapping the conditions you are running into this morning mostly dry on your major routes. ramps and brims are slick, secondary roads in some areas icy patches and other areas are snow and ice covered and neighborhood streets maybe of those are ice rinks so if you do have to leave take it easy and wait until you leave later this morning so temperatures warm up. now new z news to go with bill and renee. >> and the news pretty much echos the traffic. plenty of neighborhood roads frozen again this morning. >> that's the reason a number of viewing area schools are closed or delayed. you heard brian talking about this but to recap interstates and primary roads mostly clear
