goto ato t the amount of money i do not governor pat mccrory and the legislature are spending on legal fees is sky rocketing shelling out in addition to the legal help. tyler dukes joins us to talk about the state's mounting legal bills. what kind of money are we talking about? >> millions of dollars. from the legislature on it's own since they took over in 2011 we are talking about $7 million for a range of legal cases to defend a lot of the policies they passed that have been challenged in court including voter id which we are obviously talking about today. for the governor we are also talking about $1 million just in hiss office and again these are costs that are just adding to the attorney general's office fees because they are defending these cases as well. >> so when we say the governor

their own bill for the private lawyers that's not saying that tax payers aren't paying for it. it's being double billed isn't it? >> right exactly. in many cases the attorney general has attorneys who are staffed working in court along side these private lawyers and basically what the g.o.p. has said is it really does not trust this attorney general to have the best interest at heart because the attorney general has publicly discouraged many of the policies he's expected to defend in these courtrooms. >> is there a precedent for this? >> it's really hard to find one if you talk to people who have been in the attorney general's office for decades the closest we come to this is during the administration where you have a democratic attorney general and republican governor but even then those are clear conflicts where the government is suing over power issues and a clear but really in this case we
