he 6:09 temperatures not as cold as they were this time yesterday. we started yesterday in the mid 20s. this morning low to mid 30s so our icy patches are still there but not as wide spread as we saw yesterday. 31 in hillsborough right now. 28 in smithfield but there are only a handful of places where temperatures are below freezing. a little bit of patchy fog trying to develop down to the south this morning. 37 in henderson, 35 in night dale and littling ton and there are buses running in the viewing area. temperatures are likely to climb up into the mid to upper 30s and on the way home see increasing clouds. high of 58 this afternoon so a nice warm up will continue. bill? >> thank you elizabeth. less than a week now before the iowa caucuses. polls show democrats are still

are not nearly as cold as they were yesterday. we've got this beautiful sunrise that's about to explode in the sky as the sun comes up we are going to have the beautiful colors with the high thin clouds. 38 degrees in apex, 34 in rocky mount, 28 in vincent and wake forest too so a couple spots dropping enough for a little bit of black ice. mostly you are concerned about the lingering ice on the road for a few days. 34 in roxboro, 38 in garner. should be fine for your morning run but watch those slick spots. bill? >> thank you elizabeth. dangerous road conditions over the weekend led to a cancellation of critical blood drives across the carolinas. >> now the red cross says they are in desperate need to supply local hospitals. >> we deliver that blood and it's a constant process.

car crashes carbon monoxide poisoning or snow shoveling heart attacks. federal offices in washington d.c. will remain closed today because the roads are still bad and schools remain closed in d.c., baltimore and philadelphia. a lock down lifted after a fight at winston salem state university at the donald j reed center. someone displayed a gun but no reports of shots fired. the lock down was a caution during the security sweep. the first meeting without former president tom ross. faculty and students plan to protest and bring attention to black colleges. they want e board to put more research towards historically black colleges. investigators are working to determine what caused a fire at an apartment complex on shady long court in garner last night. the fire started in a unit on the first floor.

second floor to escape. they were transported to the hospital. we are told at least three units had smoke damage. the grand jury veiginunder cover video of planned parenthood found no wrong doing by the abortion provider. instead they indicted two anti abortion activists who made the video centered on the handling of fetal tissues. both are charged with federal tampering of government records. they said the videos were edited to be misleading. law enforcement officials left behind a poorly constructed bomb. they failed to detonate the explosive back on december 2. the couple shot and killed 14 people that day at the social services center. they drove to the area attempting to set off the remote controlled bomb which was inside the building. the couple died in a shoot out with police.

in winston salem for the lawsuit over the voter id law. african american residents worried about getting the id needed to cast ballots in person. the photo id law was enacted to discriminate they argue. republican lawmakers who passed it said it was meant to prevent voter fraud. democratic presidential candidates have wrapped up the town hall hall event ahead of the iowa caucuses. they took the stage separatey at drake university. the denver broncos will wear white road uniforms for super bowl 50. they worry those during their last super bowl win over atlanta 17 years ago. >> meanwhile the panthers fly out of charlotte on sunday to head to santa clara, california for the game. athletic trainers will check thomas davis today. he wants to play in the super

>> with your weather to go here's elizabeth gardner. >> weather in santa clara is going to be pretty nice. let's check what's going on in fox bureau. still a good bit of lingering snow and ice there. probably going to melt a good bit more of it today. look at this pretty sunrise here that is in progress over downtown roxboro. there are a few clouds to make it prettier. mostly sunny skies this morning but later this afternoon the clouds thicken up as we have a system on the way for tomorrow. 38 degrees right now at the airport in raleigh. south west wind at 8 miles per hour. that's a south westerly flow bringing in the warm air. dew point 35 so air fairly moist at the moment. running into patchy fog and watching the greater chance of that down south to harnett county and cumberland county. 32 in roxboro so watch out for

bit of lingering black ice out there. in terms of wide spread black ice this morning we are not seeing that because temperatures are not as cold as they were yesterday. still where the roads are ice covered obviously you need to be careful. 34 in rocky mount and wilson, 35 south hill, 36 southern pines and fayetteville. temperatures much warmer than yesterday from 7 to 9 degrees warmer in roxboro and southern pines and 15 degrees warmer in south hill than it was this time yesterday. visibility down in harnett county visibility drops to a quarter of a mile at least in irwin. i would think everybody south of the triangle even rocky mount at 6 miles. not a big concern just an indication beginning to see fog or low cloud cover developing so we are going to see patches of that to run into this morning. that should burn off quickly. here's a look at the satellite and radar picture. a few clouds back to the west. the morning should be sunny. in the afternoon a steady flow

clouds and warm air creating cloud cover across our area. here's our next system that arrives tomorrow. it will probably be here during the morning commute so it may be messy except the amounts are pretty light, maybe a quarter of an inch or less of rain that falls and really very little chance of anything frozen. a brief period of passing sleet which wouldn't accumulate is a slim, slim possibility but i think the system is going to be no big deal for us. we take it out to lunch time and see sunshine. in the afternoon the clouds thicken up. the rain today stays back into the mountains but rain arrives first thing tomorrow morning as people are heading off to work and school. maybe a few delays but hopefully everybody back on track for tomorrow. our rain shifts to the coast during the afternoon and some of the computer models wanted to develop a low and spread moisture back in on thursday. that low develops but a lot of

pretty dry for us on thursday and that was the time period to watch for cold air. it looks like that's highly unlikely right now. the rest of our week looks pretty quiet. 58 for our high today. lunch time 52, at 5 it's 57. your trip home fairly cloudy. tomorrow we start the day with showers but it's all liquid not looking at a lot of rain out of this. thursday partly cloudy eastern counties could see a few scattered showers and a fantastic weekend. sunshine and 65 on sunday compared to the normal of 52. 77 is the record. that's a look at your weather to go. brian is here with traffic. >> here at 6:50 elizabeth we are getting reports of icy conditions on side roads over at raleigh and durham. icy patches other scattered reports this morning. you do need to take it easy on the shaded areas and side streets secondary roads this morning.

orange county durham county line. the accident is blocking the right lane from hillsborough to durham this morning allow extra time. consider using 70 as a possible option as well coming in from the hillsborough area. also it looks like a disabled vehicle on 15-501 at mlk. not sure what's going on out here. it is a bridge. doesn't look like it's icy or anything like that but something to keep in mind that that left lane on northbound 15- 501 at mlk is partially blocked at this point. looking pretty good westbound with schools delayed in wake county a pretty easy morning commute. 11 minutes from garner on 40 west and no delays all the way to rtp. an accident on curry road and edward mills road. we want to give you a heads up about work going on at csx railroad crossings at apex and kerri runs through the rest of
