you have cars parked on the driveway and the side of the road. many people have keyless fobs like this one for their vehicles. that's not the case for some residents in one neighborhood after a series of break-ins. it appears some suspected thieves are using keyless devices like this to break into cars and in some cases homes. the series of break-ins happened here in the wake park neighborhood of raleigh. the police confirmed six reports of car break-ins in this neighborhood. one car was stolen. we talked with neighbors who tell us the suspected thieves actually target the as many as 15 cars. but here's what's strange. most residents who were victims of the break-ins say that cars were locked and the windows were not broken. neighbors believe available technology allows thieves to use universal key fobs similar to the ones you see here that can open several cars at one time. someone can amplify the signal that overrides the keyless locks.

one neighbor we spoke with says he and his fellow residents are perplexed by the break in. >> that was unnerving for all of us. apparently there's some kind of technology you can use to get into the car to override something or other. reporter: raleigh police have not confirmed the theory. it is a possibility that they're considering as they move forward with this investigation. so what can do you to protect yourself? first, the obvious. don't leave your car unlocked. make sure it's locked. take your key to be with you. don't leave it in or near the cars and another thing, put your key to be in a metal container. that will stop any signal that's being emitted from that key to be. that metal container will help you out a lot of these measures are not foolproof, but at least they might stop or slow down a suspected heave. >> you hope makers of these can he vices will continue to
