temperatures town by town on the chilly side in the 30s. clear skies in garner. a little bit of cloud cover in clinton. fog in our southern communities visibility down to 2.5 miles in a few spots. 32 in apex, 38 in hope mills and 35 in rocky mount. this is the temperature today versus the wind chill. the winds picking up later this afternoon gusting up to 30 miles per hour. notice temperatures in the low 50s for a high temperature but feeling like 30s and 40s all day today so staying pretty chilly. we will go into the 60s this weekend. more on that coming up bill? >> thank you aimee. federal health officials are working to protect the u.s. blood supply from the zika virus and deter blood donations from the travelers who have visited the nations where the virus is prevalent.

defects in which babies are born with abnormally small heads. a texas school is closed today after dozens of students and staff members were sickened by an apparent gas leak. paramedics were called after a student lost consciousness. 100 students and adults went to the hospital to be treated. all were later released. school officials believe there was a leak in a gas boiler. lawmakers in florida are moving closer to the state's stand your ground law to place more burden on prosecutors to prove self-defense was not a factor when charging someone with assaulting or killing another person. the state stand your ground law was the reason george zimmerman initially was not charged in the shooting death of trayvon martin nearly four years ago. it touched on a national debate which allows a person to respond with force if they feel threatened. a local school system can't

wh welcome back. time now 6:39. aimee wilmoth in for elizabeth. town by town temperatures in the 30s. it's a bit chilly outside. a little bit of cloud cover there but mainly clear skies across the viewing area. 36 degrees, 33 in henderson and 35 in wilson and 32 in smithfield. so off to a chilly start but temperatures will warm up today. getting up to around 52. keep in mind the winds gusty this afternoon so the wind chill will make it feel like it's in the 40s pretty much all day long. 54 degrees s the high temperature

we slightly warm up a little bit on saturday but then in the 60s on sunday. 65 degrees and upper 60s for monday and tuesday so a big warm up on the way. we'll take a look at when we could see more rain coming up. >> thank you amy. new overnight the bank of japan introduced a negative interest rate policy for the first time in hopes of suring up a stumbling recovery in the third largest economy. what it does is charge lenders to keep money with the central bank. the negative rate of minus one tenth of 1% will encourage banks to lend more and consumers to spend more. the surprise rattled investors with the index swinging between gains and losses after the announcement. at the close it was nearly 3% higher. the obama administration is expanding the program aimed at
