dollars needed for renovations. testimony started today in the trial of a man accused of killing a woman in her north hills apartment. smith is accused of killing melissa joans in 2013 rs while her daughter slept down the hall. her daughter who was 8 at the time, found her mother and ran to ask nearby construction workers for help. they called 911 and the child's grandmother. she testified about the call today. heard it but i didn't hear it. i didn't understand. i told my husband. i got the phone call something was wrong with melissa. >> shith was manipulated by his codefendant say his attorneys. anthony pleaded guilty and serving a life sentence. the trial is expected to last a month if convicted, smith could face the death penalty.

environmental disaster changed the way we deal with coal ash, in 2014, a broken pipe sent 39,000-tons of ash in to the dan river, at the retired duke energy plant in rockingham county. the clean up and investigation led to new state regulations about storing coal ash, the company is moving much of it to two landfills in our area. duke energy pleaded guilty to violations of the clean water act. paid a fine of more than $100 million. the clock that towers overdowntown fayetteville is back in place. crews replaced pieces of the clock on the market house that were removed for repairs. don't set your watches by this. workers are scheduled to calibrate and test the clock tomorrow. international health alert asked people to change travel plans, it's centered on the zika virus. whether local travelers are
