southern and eastern communities. here's 5:00 as this system continues to push away. we could have some accumulations. we'll take a look at the probability of who could see some accumulating snow for super bowl sunday. >> very interesting, amy, thank you. a man is dead after participating in the annual krispy kreme challenge. candace sweat joins us now. what's the latest? >> reporter: we know the 58- year-old man stepped out of the race within the first mile of starting, and he complained of having chest pains we're told by an nc state spokesperson who was picked up bey ems and taken to rex hospital where he was pronounced dead. at this point we really don't know exactly what caused his death but a little bit of a background on this krispy kreme challenge. it is a student-lead clarity that benefits north carolina children's hospital. participants run five miles,
6:13 pm
about a dozen krispy kreme doughnuts. the race director released a statement earlier that reads in part, we are deeply saddened and wish to convey our heartfelt condolences. i also spoke with a raleigh spokesperson. he told me this man's family has been notified of his death. he says he's not releasing the identity of the man who died because the circumstances of his death do in the require him to do so. but certainly a dark cloud over this challenge that is usually a lot of fun. linda. >> candace sweat live in raleigh, thanks for the update. we are just about 24 hours away from the kickoff to super bowl 50 in santa clara. it looks beautiful. it is all work and no rest for crews working on final preparations at levi's stadium where the carolina panthers and denver broncos will battle for the lombardi trophy.

6:15 pm
you might not notice, that left guard is now lined up on the right side, how did that happen? interesting things like that, that we can now make available. >> reporter: a lot of people have said, how do they know all that? these announcers have all the information at their fingertips. it's because of durham-based smt. they are ready. this is the super bombe but something they do every week during the regular season. the smt crew may be the only ones here hoping for a boring, drama-free sunday, because if that happens they know everything went as planned. >> the amount of technology is staggering. gerald owens live in san francisco. our coverage of super bowl 50 continues in the queen city. that's where ken smith was on the prowl searching for broncos fans in panther country. ken, did you find any? >> reporter: you know, it

6:18 pm
we'll be right back. welcome back. i'm meteorologist amy tracking the potential of a storm tomorrow. stay tuned to our late newscast. we will have new model runs and hopefully a better idea. the timing of the precipitation, bet rain or snow, will be after midnight until around 3:00 in the tray angle tomorrow afternoon, then it will be later for our eastern communities. we could have some accumulating snow. the best chance would be south and east of the triangle. typically we're talking about roxboro. here's a live look from our
6:19 pm
we have some blue sky and some clouds mixed in. 42 at the airport, winds out of the east-southeast at 3. in the 30s to the north. 37 in south hill, 45 in fayetteville, 42 in raleigh. soil temperatures are in the upper 40s right now, just to note. if we get any precipitation it will take a lot to fall for the ground to cool off enough to have accumulation. here's the system we're tracking tonight. this is the low pressure system that is going to move along the north carolina coast overnight tonight into tomorrow. that could bring rain and snow. then we have another system we will be watching for monday. this one moves in late in the day. it has some cold air behind it. so it's going to be a pretty cold work week. take a look at futurecast. this evening if of plans we're dry until midnight. as we get to the midnight hour we could have a couple of showers but most of us dry think. evening plans should be okay. as we get to the morning hour this is 6:00 sunday morning. notice we have the snow in the blue here, down in the south, and the southern portion of the
6:20 pm
continue until 8:00, still mainly in the southern counties, then here's lunchtime, rain trying to make its way into the triangle. wouldn't rule out a couple of snowflakes. more on that in a moment. still showing the snow mainly down to the south and east. 5:00, the system starts to move to the east. we are going to see this system really winding down as we head into the evening hours for super bowl parties i think we will be okay unless we get accumulation on the roadway which is possible. this is the probability at greater than an inch of snow for the triangle area about 30% chance that we'll have that happen. that's not that high. but for our eastern and southeastern counties along the i-95 corridor, back into fayetteville, a 40% chance that that happens. up that to two inches, greater than two inches of snow, a 30% chance in the blue area with only a 20% chance in the triangle. but again a lot can ange if this low pressure system is more offshore we could get
6:21 pm
more to the west, we could get more. we'll have to stay tuned. the winter mix, possibly accumulating snow sunday. monday is when our arctic system arrives. colder as we get to tuesday with highs in the mid-40s. lows will be in the 20s as we head into wednesday. that will continue into next weekend. so we'll have a series of cold fronts next week that do continue to bring us colder temperatures but for now all eyes down on florida, that low pressure system. hopefully we can have a better idea of this system, what it's going to do once we get the new models in. i have been talking to greg fishel about this. we're in close communication. gearing up for the big game. >> nc state looking to prevent history from repeating itself. the pack's last win at duke came in 1995.
6:22 pm
bench for duke after missing the last game with illness. luke kenard's first half just what the doctor ordered. three straight threes. kenard, 11 points in the first half. duke leads by as many as 10, but after the break, the lightning round segment. the slam. moments later, cody martin, a steal and slam. and then on the other end another steal and another martin break away. state within one. barber with another huge game for statement 26 points for barber and six assists. this lob puts the pack up one at 50-49. but down the stretch, kenard and grayson allen keep firing. kenard, 26 points. allen scores 28. a season high 14 threes for the duke team as the devils hold off the pack 88-80.
6:23 pm
was kenard. luke has been struggling. i think he was shooting 27% from the three, and he goes 6 for 11 and made big shots. seemed like every big shot they needed to make they made it. but even when they made a big shot we responded. we came right back. they made great plays. and we answered them. we'd make a great play, then they'd answer. >> our gaze were very good. they fought, and i think it's an extension of what they done the second half against georgia tech, the job my staff has done and they've done to just stay tough. just try to make this as good as possible. we're not this powerhouse that we're -- our guys are doing a good job. they're do ago really good job. >> well, it is now super bowl eve. fans across the carolinas continue to keep pounding.
6:24 pm
>> reporter: ken, it is hard to believe we are finally almost to game time, about 24 hours until the stadium will be rocking here in california. of course, the panthers getting ready to take on the broncos. it is a beautiful day. both teams took advantage of that day and got to hold a walk- through here at levi's stadium. now, you might ask yourself, what do the players do the night before the big game? they say while they're well prepared, they're going to be maybe sleeping tonight, a lot. >> me? no, you look at me. i'm going to eat and go right to sleep. i ain't going to have no problem. face time my wife and kids, and i eel be snoring like a baby. >> you're nervous when you feel pressure. i feel like we've prepared enough to where we don't have to feel that unnecessary pressure, and so that's how we've been all year.
6:25 pm
the guys say they're going to do today. the exact same thing they've done every saturday night throughout the year which, of course, has done very well for this team. coming up tonight at 10:00 and 11:00 we're going to have a special story about a father and so. greg olsen and his dad, who is his high school coach. you are going to want to check that out as jeff bradley joins me live from california. ken. >> all right, mandy. the guy is going to eat and sleep tonight. that's how he's going to prep for the super bowl. >> they both seem so calm, but once it comes right down to the they're thinking, oh my god. >> if you don't have nerves for that game, check your pulse. so quickly tomorrow, really more updates tonight. >> yeah, really tune in tonight at 10:00 and 11:00, because i think we'll have a better idea what this thing does. right now it looks like the best chance of accumulating
