wral's bryan mims, spent his day there, any problems on the roads there now? >> reporter: david, both the highway patrol and rocky mount poceavnot responded to any weather related accidents throughout the afternoon. i'm standing along i-95 and u.s. 64 where traffic is moving along at regular speed with no problems. the snow has stopped falling. we have seen dot trucks roll by through the afternoon, here is what it looked like earlier today. earlier in the afternoon, dot trucks equipped with plows were on standby and trucks ready to spread sand or salt. we have seen trace amounts of accumulation across nash and edgecombe counties, dot sprayed 71,000 gallons of brine, a salt and water solution to prevent ice from forming.

this morning, here is what she said, when asked about the cause of death. >> blunt and shore force injuries of head and neck, blunt and sharp force injuries of the torso may have been contributory to death. >> in other words, multiple serious injuries here. >> reporter: it could have taken her from several minutes to an hour to die after those injuries, she said, she would have been conscious of her injuries, she would have known she was dying. those details as you might imagine led to emotional reaction in the courthouse especially from the victim's mother. the state rested the case against travion smith, smith did not testify the defense did not present any evidence, if convicted, smith could get the death penalty, we are expecting closing arguments on monday.
