good news for obese people trying to slim down. researchers in st. louis found just a 5% weight loss could spark the biggest health benefits. even a 10 pound weight loss in a person weighing 200 pounds cut diabetes and heart disease risk. it also improves metabolic function. doctors in california are investigating the link between sleep deprivation and depression. they say a gene they have been tracking in mice may explain how mood disorders can be triggered by biological clock changes. anxious and depressed parents are more likely to have children who are fussy eaters. that's according to researchers om the netherlands. they tracked thousands of human members and found the more anxious to parents were, the more likely their preschoolers would be picky eaters. everyone wants to get into shape but working out is only half the answer. eating right is the other half of that equation. and here to talk us through national nutrition month is my

dietitian, tara wynn to talk about national nutrition month. i mean, you are in your element. >> we all are. in the past 30 or 40 years it has been a whole month. it is pretty much a campaign, a platform to promote eating right, to find what it means to be healthy, having registered dietitians coming into the workplace. a lot of different things. >> i like the one this year, it is called, "savor the flavor." do you mean you can eat right and have a taste good? >> yes. it is about slowing down, and joined the tradition. think about interrupting, who you are with. where you are and what it smells like instead of focusing on nutrition. >> so, how big is eating when it comes to that equation? because i know, i can work out at the gym every single day and i still lose weight once i eat right. >> i think a lot of people overestimate how much they burn when their oxidizing -- exercising and accommodate for

the key message is, you know, not even because you are rewarding or so for exercise, because you are bored, but focusing on eating when you're hungry into your eating with. >> what are some ways individuals and organizations can get involved and really set some habits that will linger throughout the year? >> a lot of different ways. if you're an organization, especially one that has a worksite wellness platform, invite a dietitian out to talk. hosted lunch and learn, recipe sharing. or if you have clicked or are in the classroom, you can do nutritional lessons like reading labels or have people bring labels from home. >> any tips on, you know, in terms of the food pyramid? all of that has been changing over the years. >> it has been anged. i think the guidelines in 2015 just came out in december. go online and look at those. also, look at the my plate recommendations on the

website, i think it is www.eatright.org. >> do you believe in a big breakfast to help people get going in the morning? >> i'm happy with any breakfast. it does not have to be big but has to be somewhat substantial. >> and taper off as the day goes on? is that still pretty much your philosophy? >> it is more, i recommend eating fewer meals as i used to. i used to have clients or people that i was working with eat every few hours but now focusing more on three meals a day is sometimes the approach i take. eating evenly throughout the day is probably better than having a big meal and tapering off. >> if you eat too much at the end of the day, aren't you causing problems? >> it could set you up for being full overnight, then waking up for and not eating a big axis. just a cycle of ongoing behaviors. >> all right, national
